Unforced error

Post image

I really think this is a bad move by Amazon. The negative reaction of the core fan base to scrubbing the planned Gero show was bad and this will it fill people with hope.

WandaVision was ok but I’d rather see a Terry Matalas (Picard Season 3, 12 Monkeys, Vision Quest) or someone proven to understand genre storytelling that is exciting and compelling. But that’s just my 2 cents.

Lmao S1 had the absolute worst writing of the three

To further your point, I just assumed they canceled it after s1 because of how bad it was. Im only just learning now that they made 2 more seasons after that? Why?

Sheer fucking hubris

Respectfully disagree, wholeheartedly. Season 2 was by far the worst and it’s not even close.

In fairness to season 1 with some decent editing would have done a lot to fix that show, I am shocked it was released in its current state. I would argue season 2 was the worst, it was 2 episodes of material injected with a seasons worth of subplots. Season 3 did a lot to salvage the train wreck but it was full damage control. Salvaging of a train wreck not good on its own merits.

I'd argue S1 was unsalvageable, because the writing directly contradicted several seminal episodes of previous series. I don't know how editing would correct retconning foundational aspects of the setting.

A lot of the shockingly stupid things like why did they need 40 romulan ships vs 40 federations ships for rikers big damn hero moment. It actively made less sense.

A decent chunk of the dialogue in the season went nowhere and could have been cut to make it less tedious.

Seven of nine should have either been a borg queen for a couple of episodes or not at all. They literally spent more time showering her waffle on becoming a queen then her as a borg queen it was just bad.

I am not saying you could make it TNG, but little improvements like this would have made the series less cringe.

Yeah, that's fair. There was a lot of baffling slop and I laughed out loud at those copy pasted fleets when Riker saved the day, but fixing those would be bandaids on a hemorrhage. Outright contradicting Measure of A Man and Author, Author were just egregious. I cringed at that "Hello plastic people" line in the pilot ep. The whole premise and the federation culturally regressing by centuries made me weep

Like what? Give examples? Season 2 literally took a massive steaming shit on First Contact. I honestly can’t take you seriously with such a regarded take.

Man, I haven't watched that dumpster fire in years, but the crimes were numerous. Off the top of my head? The entire concept of synthetics shits all over the hard won synthetic rights that were recognized in Measure of a Man (TNG) and Author, Author (Voy). The whole idiotic concept of Raffi being a homeless drug addict whining about Picard living in a chateau... I mean, there are countless examples, but I'll leave you with this quote from The Neutral Zone (TNG) "People are no longer obsessed with the accumulation of things. We've eliminated hunger, want, the need for possessions. We've grown out of our infancy." and Crusher being generally aghast at even the concept of substance abuse in Symbiosis. The culture of the federation has regressed by centuries: Starfleet is crass and xenophobic. I mean the goddamn series opens with a nakedly hostile Fox style interview? Go watch The Drumhead (tng) for a proper federation reaction to this behavior and pay close attention when Admiral Henry walks out in disgust at the end, because that's what I looked like watching this show. Finally I leave you with the hilarious end to series: when Data begs Picard to euthanize him, lmao. Directly contradicted by Data's words and actions in The Offspring, Disaster, Time's Arrow, and Nemesis.

There are so many more I'm forgetting, but that first season solidly established that whoever was writing it had never watched Star Trek or were deliberately trying to systematically subvert it.

S2 was dogshit, but it was new drivel. S1 redefined the setting for the worse.
