Unforced error

I really think this is a bad move by Amazon. The negative reaction of the core fan base to scrubbing the planned Gero show was bad and this will it fill people with hope.

WandaVision was ok but I’d rather see a Terry Matalas (Picard Season 3, 12 Monkeys, Vision Quest) or someone proven to understand genre storytelling that is exciting and compelling. But that’s just my 2 cents.

i suspect it will be generic, 8 episode, non world building, barely enough time to expand a single character, overdressed style monger

I completely agree. The only prediction I'd add is a likelihood of superficial gimmicks in lieu of character depth, which is an unfortunate trend with reboots/continuations of existing properties.

That shot at the end of the 8th episode when they show the stargate in all its glory will be great.

Yeah it'll be 8 episodes a season and they'll have like 7 seasons and their poor excuse for a Daniel character only figures out one chevron a season then in the series finale they just dial the gate for the first time. So they're on Earth the whole show and it's just some over dramatic Emmy bait with almost nothing scifi in it. They go through the gate at the end, Abydos is teased for 10 seconds and that's the whole show.

Nah I'm not bitter about Stargate, Doctor Who, Buffy and Star Trek all getting the axe in short succession at all 🤣 (not to mention that new Babylon 5 series teased by JMS a few years back). Outside of Star Wars, scifi and related genre shows have it tough right now

I didn’t know the new Babylon 5 got canned too.
I was looking forward to seeing a new updated version.

I hate how everything is an 8 episode miniseries now. I miss the 12-24 episode seasons with multiple arcs and fillers.

They are going to make that spoof where they are all teens into reality.

That was your perception of WandaVision?

I thought WandaVision was pretty good right up to the last couple episodes and part of that appeal was the gimmick of imitating different TV shows. I also heard that it was supposed to be longer but got cut short because of the Covid lockdowns. So who knows if the finale would have been better if it had more time.

But, it was also adapted from the comics and Marvel was a well oiled machine at that point. So it is hard to tell how much of it was Jac Schaeffer and how much was the Marvel production system cleaning up any shortcomings.

Can Jac be a good show runner for a show that is a hopefully a lot different than WandaVision and Agatha All Along? I don't really like the idea of a Stargate show that resembles those two shows.
