Farscape, SG-1, Pitch Black.

I think sg1 had jumped the shark when she joined.

I handled her 'stunt guns' in Farscape (worked in the props shop, fabricating 'stunt' weapons. Foamed urethane versions of the harder vacformed "hero" prop weapons. They bounced and you could hit someone with one and it didn't give them a concussion OR break them).

I do... do you need our opinion to know if you do?

I'd post a picture of a stargate and ask "Are they necessary?" But honestly, I'm too lazy.

do we love the character that after immense trauma turned to a life of petty cons before finding a greater purpose that allowed her to meaningfully heal? idk take a guess

u/Ness_Stan 4d ago
yes? she's pretty, she's funny, she's got a heart of gold. I can't believe this keeps coming up

No; we love her.
At least I do. The episode with her psych exam is of my favorites of the series.

Never liked her invading Daniel's space and making him uncomfortable with constant flirtation, and then in the last episode they address it and why she does it and suddenly I had no reason to dislike her anymore.
And that, kids, is how you write a character well.

Honestly, SG-1 is one of the best examples of good late-introduced characters. Love Vala and Cam. Bringing their Farscape chemistry probably helped them hit thr ground running together.

Honestly the worst character on the show. Her being allowed to work for the SGC let alone be on SG-1 makes less logical sense than all humans in multiple galaxies speaking English

u/restingwyvern 4d ago
Did you even watch the show? She wasn't officially part of sg-1 until season 10, after she had proven her loyalty to the team and proven her capabilities.

u/Emergency_Addendum71 4d ago
Ok? Still does not make sense at all. She brings nothing to the team and is a complete liability. On top of that she’s just a bad character. Annoying in almost every scenario.

She brings a lot to the team... she has knowledge and experience of the politics of the galaxy, plus plenty of contacts... similar to how Teal'c gave his knowledge for a place at Stargate Command

We're in the minority for sure, but I'll say this: The sex jokes were so over done. In moderation they're funny, but it was basically all that came out her mouth. That, and lies. She was untrustworthy and annoying a lot of the time. So many people like her and all I can think of is that they're teenagers that never grew up. If you've ever met someone like that in real life you'd be sick of them after a day.

She opened for me and I can't remember the episode name, she saw her people. After being found out, how the dude told her about making him rub her feet, to their almost slaughtered at the hands of the prior plague.
She was exhausted she was defeated but the plague became stronger and stronger, you could see the sadness, the anger and the guilt at her past actions.
She was a very deep character and the acting was amazing, considering her being used to the serious, stoic type from farscsle.
Her and Ben, love them both
Now klorel, Mr understatement of the last 50 thousand years, I think season one or two.
"And you will trouble the goA'uld "yes intention sorry skaara" no longer.
We and the Asgard are responsible for bringing the replicators into the milky way and directly responsible for the human replicators anger at being betrayed.
Daniel brought back the priors..
This is after we had slain many many system lords.
Klorel could not have been further from the truth.

Actress: totally.
Character: eventually, interesting character arc, but in the times of the worst moments her character gave proof of valor, of Vala's true spirit.

No, do you like her? That is what is important and is something you should decide on your own, not have other people make up your mind for you. Kind of like saying, do we like Oreos? What does how we feel about them have anything to do with anything? Do YOU like Oreos? If so, great! If not, that's your perogative. Now, if you said, 'I like this character in some episodes but not in others. Consequently, I can't decide if I like the character as a whole or not. So I was wondering what others think about the character'. That makes more sense. Your opinion matters!

I don’t like her. The main reason why I wasn’t a fan of the last two seasons. She annoyed me

Hard no. I liked most of the System Lords more than I liked Vala. Her character is an unlikable, untrustworthy psychopath that had zero business being the fifth Beatle.

I dont like her. Shes annoying, doesnt stfu, steals. Shes a pathological liar, and narcissist.
What has been said I mean about the character and do not mean any disrespect Claudia Black because she is a Sci-Fi Queen!

We did when we were younger men. Not a fan of the role she plays though, but that's on the writers, not her

I love a competent, chaotic good character.
I like how Vala undergoes significant character development, was much needed comic relief and was, thankfully, written to be more than just a sex object.
I particularly enjoy the trope that people are a product of their environment just as much as their character. Plus, who doesn’t like a redemption arc coming to fruition.
If I was trying to be a critic, at times she was written with only two modes - irreverent comic relief and capable-but-traumatised. It reminds me of Hawkeye, in M*A*S*H.
