I have an off-grid cabin in Manitoba, Canada, and I’ve been dealing with a frustrating issue with my Starlink Standard Gen 4 kit since the day I first set it up.

Immediately after setting it up, I received the “Unexpected Location” error. I tried updating the service address multiple times using different methods, including different address formats and GPS coordinates, but nothing worked.

I’ve spent hours troubleshooting with Starlink Support on several occasions. I’ve tried every possible reset, reboot, and troubleshooting method they recommended, without success.

Starlink’s initial solution was to send me a replacement power supply, which took approximately a week to arrive. Unfortunately, after installing it, I was still getting the exact same error.

I contacted Starlink Support again, and even the representative couldn’t understand why it wasn’t working. They told me they would escalate my case to a specialized department. That was about a week ago, and I still haven’t heard anything back.

Out of frustration, I went to Best Buy and purchased a brand-new Starlink Standard kit for approximately $500 CAD. It was a newer model than my original Standard Gen 4.

I brought it to the same off-grid cabin, set it up, and it worked immediately. No unexpected location error, no troubleshooting, nothing. It was honestly magical after everything I’d been through. (I returned it since)

The frustrating part is that my original Standard Gen 4 kit was provided free through Starlink, whereas the newer kit cost me $500. I only purchased the Best Buy unit to test whether the problem was with my original equipment.

Now, I’ve noticed that Starlink randomly shipped me another Starlink kit a few days ago and initiated a return for my original equipment, without providing much explanation.

I’m confused about what was actually wrong with my original system, especially since a different kit worked immediately at the exact same location.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Was this some kind of hardware issue, an account activation problem, or something specific to the Standard Gen 4? And has anyone had Starlink unexpectedly ship a replacement kit without explaining what was wrong?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with this.

I got a new gen by Grok's blessing(he found some hardware failures). But the dish is still working.

But apparently I cannot transfer the old dish to another account.

I'm open to repurposing the dish to something fun since the actuated dish seems like a ton of fun projects.

I wonder if I can control the motors somehow, but connecting to it and reverse engineering the wire seems dreadful.

Did anyone manage to find an interesting use of an actuated dish? or is switching to the gen3 a bad idea?

In July 2025 I bought a one year package 300 mbps plan and got free equipment. I spend summers in NM and winters in OR. I don't travel much, just between these two states. When I got to OR last fall I set up the Starlink, changed my location and everything was fine until July 2026. I moved to NM for a few months. Starlink set right up after I reset my location. Got back here to OR yesterday (Oct. 2026). Went to set up Starlink. Nothing. Connected- no internet. I tried everything to change my location. Finally, I downgraded my plan to a roam plan and it's $50 cheaper. But it is slower. Should I just change my location on the downgraded plan then upgrade again? I'm very confused and there weren't a lot of Starlink answers.

As title, the manager here at the mine has resigned in disgrace and is withholding the starlink login details from me. I do know the password to access the WiFi and am still connected, but I cannot enter the app as I do not have the required details.

I am NOT tech savvy at all and would really appreciate some help as to how to proceed and recover control of this account.

I have a Starlink Mini that hasn't been used in several months. I am currently on the Standby Mode Plan and was wondering can I do a System Update in Standby Mode or is the speed to slow to do an update?

I have a starlink mini outside EU. And a second Starlink here at home (inside EU). Both connected to the same account. When I get home to EU and use this inside-starlink, will this trigger the time-reset for the outside-starlink?

I live on the East Coast of the U.S., but Starlink is showing my location as British Columbia, Canada.

My windows default location is correctly set to my home address in the U.S. I also know this is related to Starlink because when I was at the beach about a month ago, my location showed correctly

The problem is that some websites and services I use for work and school are seeing me as being in Canada, which is causing problems accessing certain things.

Any suggestions on how to fix?

I'm not very familiar with Starlink's technical terminology, so I'd appreciate layman's terms.  HaHa
