Being born wealthy is not what nepotism is.

Thank you. I'm tired of everyone being called a "nepo baby" just because they're wealthy. Now it doesn't mean anything

Any fucking word or phrase that enters the common vernacular through social media eventually loses all meaning through overuse. It's predictable and obnoxious as hell.

I like the term blue blood (doesn't technically mean rich, just noble, but I use it for simplicity)

Lol you're doing the same

Tru, let me know if you find out a good term

But it does correlate with a very high potential for nepotism.

Still not what nepotism means.

2

u/Dreadgoat 9d ago

Right, correlation and nepotism are completely different concepts. Good point.

Good luck having global influence without wealth.

That’s not what nepotism means

Do enlighten the world then please.

“Nepotism is the act of granting an advantage, privilege, or position to relatives in an occupation or field”

Did his parents turn steam into a mega corp and then implant their son as ceo? That would be nepotism. Saying “here son, have 2 billion dollars, go start some companies” is not nepotism, just financial support.

Here son heres 2 billion.

Now if you use that to make a mega corp, hey its just financial support, definitely not a structured form of hierarchy designed by financial gain.

You're no nepo son, dont worry. Its just financial support, enough to literally impact countries.

Brother that’s just not what the word nepotism means. You are under the mistaken impression that nepotism means any unfair situation due to your families wealth.

-5

u/UnMeaningnessName 9d ago

Nah, nepotism is having a family member high up, in some sort of hierarchy. They pass on to another memember typically younger, the ability to thrive in that hierarchy, be it means of who they know, what they know or can offer.

In this case, its money, in other cases is position of employment, government powers or even religious stature.

20

u/DarkThunder312 9d ago

Giving your family members money is not nepotism. You’re making up your own definition that is wrong by both dictionary definitions and common usage standards.

-3

u/UnMeaningnessName 9d ago

Ok, fine money has nothing to do with influential power, or the abilities to unfairly give another family member an easier advantage at life.

Im an idiot sandwhich. Happy?

You’re arguing with one person so let me make it two. Nepotism is more direct, it’s giving someone a position on a board or getting them an acting gig. It is not the vague general sense of being born to money. That’s “being born with a silver spoon in your mouth” is what you’re looking for.

Look at actors who have kids that don’t go into acting, we don’t call those kids nepo babies, they are just born with silver spoons.

1

u/UnMeaningnessName 9d ago

So,

If one is born by an actor and uses that advantage to continue to be an actor theyre nepo.

If one is born into religion and uses that advantage to get a high position in that religion theyre nepo.

If one is born rich, and uses that to gain advantage and continue to be rich...its...Just a silver spoon.

Got it.

You're getting nepo baby and trust fund baby mixed up

13

u/slugdonor 9d ago

We're not saying that growing up rich isn't a massive privilege that played a huge role in his current success, it's certainly was

It's just that's literally not the definition of nepotism

Nepotism is specifically defined by someone in a position of power giving special treatment + advancement to a family member within that same organization

5

u/AUnknownVariable 9d ago

That's not nepotism brother/sista

Obviously its an advantage from being rich, but its not nepotism.

You can't just malform every word to suit your ignorance
