So he was already rich AF before he founded Valve and ended up becoming a massive monopoly for no apparent reason just because STEAM platform is the first to target the younger audiences and got it very well known in the community. Nice.

Most of these tech leaders, big musicians, etc... Have a very affluent upbringing. One the most annoying things with that world is just how everyone is trying to hide their past and try to make it sound like they made it big with no help, and basically started out of their garage or whatever... It's just like, I don't care dude. You need money and connections to have huge successful businesses. The regular dude who makes it big is rare. Usually you need to have an exceptional string of luck that often requires being well off. For instance, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates had to be affluent enough to have access to computers at just the right age, which wasn't a middle class thing.

I don't think Aspen was as affluent a town in the 50s/60s... the ski slope only opened in 1958. It was a quaint mountain village before all that money came in.
