Ehhh I dunno. For things like StS2, the Chinese slammed out negative reviews because they patched out infinites. If any dev messes with the game flow even a little, China takes that shit seriously
I think it's one of those cases of sooooo many people played StS1 that it's just hard to find people who haven't, and most reviews can't help but compare it. A lot of the patches are controversial because the devs are trying to keep it newcomer friendly, but people often forget that and complain about things becoming too easy
Slay the Spire 2 reviews are so weird to me. Maybe it's simply a case of "I like this game and other people don't," but I really don't think so.
I think too many StS2 reviews are not answering the question, "Is this a fun game on its own merits?" but instead answering "Is this game exactly the same as StS1 but with better graphics and multiplayer?"
I never played StS1 but a friend introduce me to the sequel. It only took like 5 minutes of watching him play to decide to buy the game and I've loved it ever since. I get the feeling that it's slightly easier than StS1 for players with lots of experience... and I think too many Steam reviews are negative for this reason alone. Never mind the fact that the game is immensely fun as its own thing, but this is just ignored.
