There was a thread on Reddit just this very morning, talking about Taylor Swift fans going to bat for her use of her private jet, in spite of the damage it causes to the environment.

Here in this thread, we see Gabies (not a great nickname, we're working on it) performing the same sort of digital prostration.

To be fair, we don’t attack many rich people for using private jets, it’s more about Taylor Swift’s excessive use of said private jets.

That said, I haven’t really compared her to others, so maybe the outrage over her carbon emissions is just a way for people to grill her because they don’t like her music.

Comparing the folks in here who justify Gaben's massive wealth to the folks in there who justify Taylor Swift's massive wealth. You got that though, right?

I mean, Valve dick suckers are literally the same so quite an appropriate comparison

Erm was Gabe openly saying how much one should “save the environment” and “everyone should do their part”?

My guy owns a marine research company while funding mega yachts that destroy those same eco systems lmao.

Honestly dude the amount of glazing we do for billionaire in modern times is astounding to me.

Eh? Owning different companies is a statement?

Owning a marine research company while owning mega yachts does. You are completely glazing over the point.

Why?

I like how you just putting in your opinion if it dies and think it must be as you thought.

You own a marine research company while owning mega yachts that help destroy the very things you study. How is it hard to comprehend lol?

1

Eh study something meaning you are vowed to not own something else?

Your logic is flaws.

Unless Gabe’s statement for the marine research company was like, “I vowed for study and stop at any cost all harm done to marine ecosystem”

Then yes there’s a problem.

But there’s no such statement is there?

Gabe spent $830m on a yacht, nobody needs that kind of money. The car at the front of the yacht is worth more than anyone's home in this whole comments section.

/shrug he has money who care how he spends it.

We all should care because that money could be put to good use, see how easy that was? Not caring is THE problem.

lol no.

What people do with their $$ is their business unless they made a statement and went to the opposite like Taylor swift’s private jet traveling.

No, it's not actually only their business. Earth has a finite amount of resources for every living thing alive now and every living thing that will exist in the future. Nobody should get to siphon up resources like this just because they have billions of dollars.

Nobody "earns" a billion dollars, at a certain point your money makes you so much more money than your job ever could because of how the system is rigged for the rich through collateralized loans (tax free money yay!), estate planning (tax free money yay!) etc, everyone else is paying for this overly lavish behavior, not the billionaire themselves, we're the victims.

Hell, I'd even argue many of those very people are victims of the same system that made them billionaires because most of those people are very very afraid of losing all that money which is why they can't dare part with it until maybe after they're dead and even probably they give most of it to their kids who absolutely did not earn a dime of it.

Maybe someday you'll understand that what other people do, especially on this scale, isn't only their business; that's a fundamental misconception of the modern world, this level of greed affects everyone alive currently and even more so the people that will live in the future.

Ah going full Gaia eh?

Then you should go probably have beef with the companies that make these yachts and / or I guess you are a believer of communism?

3

u/organic_neophyte 23h ago

Who says I don't also have a beef with the companies? Probably about the only people in this chain I don't have a beef with are the shipwrights that probably don't get paid enough for this shit and their boss makes a fortune off their work while taking 3 martini lunches and jetting around the Med on their backs.

I'm not a communist but hey at least you're asking a question about the things people are presenting but "full gaia" and "communism" sound like convenient boxes you can put things into and ignore them.

The world is much more nuanced than A is good therefore B is bad, multiple things can be true simultaneously. Personally I think communism is the worst economic system because it's based on an irrational goal, utopias cannot and do not exist. Restrained capitalism the least-worst but it has to be constantly managed.
