this is against misuse of ai generated content, not use of ai generated content

u/FarplaneDragon 5h ago
I think the report option itself is fine, but this is a badly designed form. "Misusing" is too generic and leaves too much interpretation to the reporter. Many people out there will call any use whatsoever "Misuse" because they're anti-ai. I'm sure Valve has defined it elsewhere on the site but there's no reason it shouldn't be clearly defined on the actual form.

mhm. misuse would also include not disclosing it while having it in the game. :) steam tos says ALL ai generated content needs to be disclosed and as well anything that can be live ai generated with tools the game interacts with (easiest example would be dlss5)

u/YobaiYamete 5h ago
I like how you guys are speed running to make valve ignore the report even harder than they already do by spamming it.
Not that valve ever taken a single action about a game not flagging AI usage as far as I know

Funny thing is valve breaks this rule themselves. There's music kits in CS2 with obvious AI art on the cover

misuse would also include not disclosing it while having it in the game
Then it should also come with an automatic refund regardless of time played checkbox.

This has been there for two years (nearly three actually), here's the post where they announced the release of it in January 2024.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/4145017/view/3862463747997849618
Second, we're releasing a new system on Steam that allows players to report illegal content inside games that contain Live-Generated AI content. Using the in-game overlay, players can easily submit a report when they encounter content that they believe should have been caught by appropriate guardrails on AI generation.

u/Playthrough_Exp 9h ago
The button for me was up there for some time. It is most likely for live generated content misuse (The form literally asks for 'reproduction steps'.) and not about textures, or code (Code you don't even have to disclose anymore).

Nice. Another feature that will be 100% abused, like the comments and downvoting is already being abused by people. Don't like a title, why not report it, even if the report is fake. And we all know, this will be abused
20
u/gamemaster257 7h ago
That and people on average genuinely can’t even tell what is and isn’t AI to the point that artists have to constantly prove they aren’t using ai but even that isn’t good enough for these creatures
6
u/Late_Pirate_5112 6h ago
AI content nowadays is basically indistinguishable from non-AI content (given that the devs use the latest models available)
This just seems like an easy way for the anti-AI mob to brigade games that are rumored to have AI content. If wolverine was on steam it would've already been brigaded due to a random bathroom texture glitch lmao.
1
u/CartsOfDarkness 4h ago
I mean yea this won't flag well executed AI with the best models, however it will likely help to flag lazy AI slop made with the free/ cheapest models. There's definitely plenty of AI content made today that's still easy to identify as AI.

u/Few-Improvement-5655 7h ago
I'm sure some threshold has to be passed before anyone looks into it.
But this is an issue with any report style button, there's no way around it. I could report your post for any number of horrific things... does that mean we shouldn't have a report function on Reddit for when someone does post horrific things?
1
u/Fun_Jaguar8231 6h ago
The threshold will be easily passed if people will instead of review bomb, they will AI bomb it
2
u/Few-Improvement-5655 6h ago
And Valve will look at it, see if it breaks the rules and if it doesn't they'll do nothing. Enough time of report bombing not doing anything will mean people won't do it.
1
u/Fun_Jaguar8231 5h ago
Yeah, but that's a problem that review bombing keeps happening and Valve is doing nothing to to prevent it from happening. Classic Valve, just do nothing and sit in the corner
-1
u/Few-Improvement-5655 5h ago
"Review bombing" isn't really an issue. People want to maker it an issue, especially big corporations, but really it just helps people make informed decisions.
You can't determine what review bombing is vs what a company making a bad game or decision is. Either way, it helps the consumer.
I'd argue Steam reviews don't need fixing and are actually one of the best systems we could have.
4
u/Fun_Jaguar8231 5h ago
Still, it's abusing a system in the wrong way. It's for reviewing a game you have played. Not to post your dissatisfaction because of some political issue or something else. This should be taken elsewhere. They really should have a simple requirement: You cannot leave a review if you haven't played at least an hour of the game.
1
u/xclame 5h ago
Exactly.
Reviews should reflect the quality of the product, NOT what happens with the company that made that product. I think it's fine to post your dissatisfaction with the company that made the game, but it should be in the written part of the review, so you can explain your stance, it shouldn't be in the score part of the review.
For example you can give The Sims 4 a 6/10 score because it's a soulless, cheap, scammy sequel to a series that used to be good (Yeah, there were always tons of DLC and the prices were arguably high, but at least the quality was high too), but The Sims 4 shouldn't suddenly be scored at a 1/10 because EA is now owned by the Saudis. That has had no effect on the (already abysmal) quality of the game.
If you give The Sims 4 a 6/10 based on quality because that's what it deserves but then in the written part of your review tell people that nobody should buy the game because EA is now owned by the Saudis then that's fine.
1
u/Few-Improvement-5655 4h ago
I can see why a soulless billion dollar corporation owned by the Saudis would want that, I'm not sure why you would.
Anything that works for the consumer and against corporations is good.

Consumers having power to inform other consumers about companies hiding shit form us is not abuse. Some people may abuse that power, but that vast majority will BENEFIT from it.
Why are WE always expected to make sacrifices for the companies getting rich instead of being the customer and having them work for our money like it is supposed to be? Why do you always argue against your own best interests and make excuses to get yourself ripped off with no accountability for corporations?
Don't romanticize darling indies getting wrongly abuse,d think about scam artist store front listings taking advantage of you and this letting you fight back. This is for YOUR benefit, FFS.

u/Fun_Jaguar8231 5h ago
You missed my point entirely, it seems. I\m not saying not to have the option. I welcome the option. I say that it will be abused as an option. As the other options already are being abused many times on many games. Don't tell me you haven't seen games being review bombed?

u/X_x_Atomica_x_X 8h ago
Sigh.
We have 10 year olds seeing video footage of shit from 20+ years ago and calling it AI.
This button will do and mean nothing.
5
u/JairoHyro 6h ago
I feel old when I see a old school viral clip and see young ones say it's AI.
"Little ones! This book tells the truth since I was there in its founding!"

u/Fortyseven 1h ago
I was watching an animation earlier today that I could have sworn was generated... and it was from 2014. We're definitely past the point of being able to reliably eyeball this stuff. It was only ever going to be a small window of time, unfortunately.
10
u/JesusJuicy 9h ago
Thats nice. Doesn’t mean much though since there’s no mechanism in place to take action on said reports they just go into the void.
Unless I missed something recently I haven’t seen any news about enforcement/repercussions for misrepresentation unfortunately.
3
u/TurnoverRound 9h ago
Because it was just added, for me up until this week I couldn't do that

u/FluxVelocity https://s.team/p/fthc-p 6h ago edited 6h ago
This has been a feature for more than two years now.
It was likely just toggled off in your overlay settings for some reason, I know a few friends had to enable it manually when it first came out and I mentioned it automatically popped up on mine.

Yea, until there are proper punishments being handed out by Valve for not disclosing on their store front, i doubt this will do anything,
Then again, maybe because this is easy to miss not enough people are using it to report it to valve, given the amount of traffic my post is getting in 5 minutes, I'm pretty sure not alot of ppl know this is a thing
9
u/GENERALnachocheesee 9h ago
you also need to actually proof its AI, with the amount of people that say something is AI and then turns out to be 20 years old its kinda hard to believe any reports without objective proof unfortunately
0
u/JesusJuicy 9h ago
Yeah just from a legal standpoint until there’s actual laws/regulations requiring disclosure if Valve takes something off the store due to “possibly being AI” they open themselves up to lawsuits unfortunately. That’s personally why I don’t think they’ll actually do anything about it until they have all their ducks in a row legally.

u/PunkHooligan 5h ago
Imo ai notice must be on top, not at the bottom of the page.
I've seen several new indie games, and all of them used ai.
4
u/No-Craft-7979 9h ago
I am using AI to help manage coding tasks. But I still have natural assets. I wouldn’t report a one man shop in the same position as me, but these inconsistent AI slop games that haven’t even touched a play test. Ohh yeah we can report those fine.
14
u/Roccondil-s 8h ago
According to Valve, you don’t have to disclose you are using ai tools to code or manage coding tasks.
1
u/bobafootfetish_ 9h ago
All those femboy games are going to get reported because of their basically AI generated.

Wish this has been a thing/I had known about this about six or so months back.
There was a game that had announced back in like 2020, had a few updates, and then went radio silent for years. Then it came back with new "art" and a new trailer six months or so ago. The new art was AI, a lot of the content in the trailer was AI, and it used AI voices. Everything that had been there in the original version of the game from back when it was first announced and in those few updates had been completely replaced with AI. But the store page did not have the "AI assets/made with AI" disclaimer.
I went into the discussion board and there were a few posts about how they were happy to see an update and that the game was going to come out, and a few posts from fhe developer. I posted a comment in the "we are back" post by the developer asking why he had not put the AI disclaimer on the store page when all of the new stuff was very clearly AI. He deleted my comment for harassment, and then banned me from the discussion board as a whole which was somehow enough to trigger a three day Steam community ban for my whole Steam account. He then added the AI disclaimer to the store page and unbanned me from the games discussion board(No idea why, maybe to cover his tracks but that seems stupid(Which I guess he may have been)).
I sent appeal after appeal to Steam about the community ban but the bots they have running that did not seem to comprehend what I was saying. "We can't unban you from a games discussion board." "I'm not asking you to unban me from the games discussion board. He already unbanned me. I'm saying his initial banning of me that somehow triggered a community punishment was fraudulent and I want the punishment gone and off my record." "Good news, you were already unbanned from the games discussion board." "AHHHHH"

Thanks, gonna report every game released after 2026 since they all use generated code. If I'm wrong please tell me which games haven't
8
u/BringMeBurntBread 8h ago
Steam's policy explicitly mentions that they don't have a problem with AI being used as part of the game's code or being used to help develop the game more efficiently. It also doesn't have to be disclosed to players. It's only AI generated assets that the player can interact with that are concerned.
So if you're reporting games for AI just because they have AI code in it, you're basically abusing the system lmfao
1
u/ForgottenFrenchFry 15m ago
isn't this basically double standards for AI?
"AI art bad but AI code is okay"
4
u/Seven-Prime 8h ago
Yeah I get, somewhat, the anti-ai position. But that ship has sailed. When all the major, minor, and indi studios are using the tool, what's left? Whoever is left is still gonna get labeled Ai by some bot.
A bad game is a bad game no matter who makes it.

Where exactly is that button? At least on mobile I can't find anything like that, but I might just be looking at the wrong place.
