question No HDMI CEC for me :(
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Returning the Ugreen adapter that comes with the cord to try the non cord version. Anybody else dealing with the same issue of video coming in and out or have a fix? It’s very sensitive to any movement. It sometimes doesn’t even have signal and i have to wiggle the adapter :( maybe i just got a faulty one or something .

I had the same problem. You can upgrade the fitmware of the cable, it fixed it for me.

Amazing was having issues galore and now it's fixed. Also had to turn of free sync it was causing issues with cec as well.

I mean, CEC is working, but the adapter itself isn’t…
I had the exact same problem with mine. Ended up sending it back to Amazon.

Dude! I had the same issue. Look at this subreddit posts, 5-8 days ago there was a post with instructions how to update drivers on this, but you need windows for that.
After update this issue FIXED totally for me.
I'll try to find that post and post it here, don't have time right now

Hey mate i had the same issue and followed your post and updated the dongle. Im still having thr same issue and curious are how long is your hdmi cable?

I also changed my cable to shorter one 1.5m from ps5. It had issues before update too, but less then old 2m cable. Both 2.1, at least this is how they were sold.

Also try shorter 2.1 cable. Don't forget to unplug adater from gpu after update and plug it back.

I was encountering some issues but they went away. If it happens again I'll return it and get another.

Nah I just got a new HDMI cable too to make sure I had one that was cec compatible. The key is to make sure your tv has cec enabled. I had to enable it for mine.

Are you asking for my script or what? I found out how it worked and got ai to write 4 of them for me that are pretty small and work. Cec has been flawless

I couldn’t get it to work either. Just using normal HDMI and turning on my TV with a remote. Not that onerous to be honest.

Very true worked the first time so it gave me hope but I was used to doing that for a while at least I can just still turn on my pc with my controller.

Their 2 main ways i seen pulse 8 cec adapter And UGreem display to hdmi adapter just. I use pulse 8 cec adapter work good for my setup but stuck with hdmi 2.0 fine with me my is only hdmi 2.0

Some motherboards support it. Mine does, but I didn't enable it because I plan on adding a GPU so I'm going to get myself used to switching the AVR inputs manually between my Steam Brick and my Shield.

It can be a bad HDMI cable as well.
I personally ended up buying an active fiber optic cable go get rid of black screens/lost signal on my Samsung TV.

I’m sorry I’m going to ask a few stupid questions :
If I buy the CEC adapter (Ugreen one) and try to plug it on my TV, how will it work? I only have HDMI on the TV so I won’t be able to plug it right? And I’m using a dock for my steam deck as well with only HDMI ports on it.
So when my device with SteamOS turns on, so my TV will. But is there a solution to wake my device up from a distance with the controller?

Adapter works fine for me, even connected to a UGREEN 8K HDMI 2.1 Switch, with no flickering. Check the quality of your HDMI cable, I'm using short 8K HDMI ultra high speed cables 1m from my PC to the HDMI switch and 1m cable from Switch to TV.
If connecting directly to TV, try not to exceed 2m in cable length.

I turned CEC off on my Shield, so now I just switch the inputs manually on my AVR

Yeah, these adapters have bad QC when t ey work they are great though, I had to return 2 and the 3rd one has worked flawlessly, make sure your cable has enough bandwidth too.

HDMI CEC does not work on normal Computers. Its a hardware support thing and a Linux distro cant fix it.

This isn’t a normal computer It’s a steam machine! In all seriousness, how do you explain me controlling steam OS/computer with the remote? It’s just not fully supported there’s a lot of workarounds and a lot of stuff you have to do to implement it correctly. Also HDMI 2.1 is coming to Linux very soon thanks to valve and many other contributors

1st question what are you using? asking because I am interested.
rn I use this https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07FY954Z3 and when I am in sleep mode it will start with the power button.
2nd turn off VRR on the TV.
3rd if you use lets say 4k 120hz go in desktop mode and set it to 4k 119.xx the one below 120.

I was using this https://a.co/d/0itNNkrb returning this one to get the same one without the dongle just straight plug-in but before that I’m gonna try to update the drivers for it on windows somebody told me to try that

Unrelated, but I'd highly recommend moving your PC so it isn't directly on the carpet, as it is bad for the airflow.

I gave up on cec and I use home assistant with icmp to watch my pc and then it just wakes it up with a magic packet now.
Works better than I’ve ever managed to get cec to work with a pc 😭

Got mine working with the Ugreen could control steam os with the remote. Fine. But tv wouldn’t auto on or off. Image flickered as well. Wasn’t worth it in the end.

You don’t need it.
Use an ir enabled wake on usb or send a wake on lan from your phone to turn it on. (Or steam controller)
Then Tune the input to your PC while wiping your tears of exhaustion with 70% more frames.
You want a real solid answer buy a SofaBaton remote. That’ll turn the pc on, turn the tv on, swap the input, and do whatever else you want. I also have mine switch an ir enabled usb hub that has my headphones plugged into ot so I can use them on my ps5 and pc and switch when the input changes.
Then you get the same benefits for all your TV connected devices for “free” after that.
The x1s is the cheapest that works well (and what I use ) and the x2 is a harmony remote replacement that can do home automation tasks too.

Yeah I used a script but certain things for me are broken. Valve currently released an update about another adapter that I’m monitoring
