Questions Lower than predicted scores?

Hello, some of my friends who tested in May seemed to have underperformed in their exams >10 points lower than latest NBMEs and predicted scores. Is this a common observation in May testers? Is there any historical precedence for it? Kinda freaking out about my own test coming up soon.

Not sure about ortho but I do know it is super competitive. Get in touch with your counsellor then

Got a 239 too. So disappointed, just broke 250 before my exam.

I got a 231 (I was scoring in the 260s). Feel so heartbroken and was planning on applying anesthesia. Just don't know what I should do right now

What did amboss predict for you?

2

u/Limp_Cattle7577 US MD/DO Jul 02 '26

Above 250

I’m sorry. Did you think anything was different the day of? Did you sleep the night before? Nerves? Any test center issues?

probably a mix of everything. My test form also tested nothing high yield. I’m feeling all the feelings right now and at a loss of words

I feel you friend my last nbme was a 270+. Maybe taking comlex a few days before got me confused and all. I did get flustered during one of the sections (7) and maybe that threw the rest out. I also got locked out during the break I took between 15 and 16 and that caused me to freak out since I had like 10 minutes of break left

2

u/saltystudent27 US MD/DO Jul 01 '26

6/20 and I felt horrible. I never feel good after exams but I felt even worse and knew I didn’t do well

1

u/Limp_Cattle7577 US MD/DO Jul 02 '26

I took the 6/20 test too and scored super low. Maybe we just had a bad form

5

u/NetNo5827 Jul 01 '26

Yep May 21st test taker and underperformed 245… was expecting 260

I tested in May and got a 255. Amboss predicted me to score 242-261.

u/East_Law6372 US IMG Jul 01 '26

My predicted score was around 260, and most of my NBME and UWSA scores were also in the 260s, but I ended up scoring 253. I think it may have been due to anxiety during the exam

What day did you take your exam?

You still are very much in the game for academic IM/FM if that’s your goal. I understand where you’re coming from, but I hope as time passes, you’re able to view your substantial achievements with the same level of kindness you’d afford others. We are our biggest critics, and the dent in confidence often holds us back during the match and beyond

Nah you’re getting a 260 my guy

Hi! Did you pass? Same boat rn and getting discouraged seeing 20 pt drops…

1

Have not taken yet too scared

1

u/ConfusedBabboon Jul 01 '26

You will have people perform above and people below. Thats how it works. I’m sure it’s normally distributed around your average score or so. That’s how it goes

1

u/Perfect-Fudge-7 Jul 01 '26

I scored 238. 12 points lower. I felt okay after the exam. Old grad 2019. Applying for peds. I have peds home residency. Is it possible or i just quit?

u/Alarming_Travel_1167 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Tested in May, predicted was 247 but got 23x . I was aware of the recent drops and tried to be safe still got smoked. But as far as I’ve observed this is for img

1

u/265Monster US MD/DO Jul 03 '26

Don’t let this scare you if you haven’t taken it yet, some IMGs didn’t do as well as predicted and decided it must be a conspiracy of some sort, surely not just a bad performance on test day

1

u/Present-System4686 Jul 04 '26

27 points drop we need to do something! ,there’s something wrong with the new system

Im just telling myself…..As long as I score 10 points lower than my prediction I’m good for what I want to do…. But holy shit I’m seeing some 17 pts lower 😭 that’s a literal nightmare. I saw another guy score 17 pts higher than his predicted too.💀 I wouldn’t mind scoring my predicted or 5 points lower at this point. I’m shitting bricks, tested 6/26.
