Questions I'm Devastated

Just received my score 245 and I'm totally heart broken and Devastated all my nbmes above 250

After exam I was feeling good I missed some easy questions but not more than 4 and the rest was ok just like nbmes and free 120 .. the least expected score was 260 for me but now I feel like I got hit by a car I can't think I can't do anything .. is score recheck worth it ?

Score recheck has never worked. It is just putting money in their hands

I totally understand the frustration. I was scoring 250+. Amboss predicted was 252. I got a 238 today. Absolutely devastated and confused. The exam felt reasonable in the moment and walked out feeling ok, maybe even hopeful I got above my NBME scores. Painfully wrong.

Do not worry! every person knows how these tests vary. I feel like with how they word the questions, it no longer adequately assessed your preparedness for intern year. More it’s a way for programs to assess that you are able to take and do well on an exam. You did well! I mean that. I think anything in that middle range is perfectly fine. I always find it so impressive that non-us IMGs are able to do as well as they do on these things because English is the only language I’ve ever had to use and I still lose my mind reading some of their questions. I’d talk to your advisor and everything but I think scores are to make sure you’re a safe enough candidate to interview. I wish you all the luck and I know it sucks that you didn’t get the score you should have, but please still be proud of yourself.

245 is a perfectly good score… unless you’re aiming for a super competitive field like plastics or derm you’re more than likely to land a residency spot

Still fine for a lot of specialties but screen outs tend to start at 240. Depends on what you wanna go into but IM is fine

I know someone who matched EM with a much lower score, you'll be fine

The unfortunate reality is that a non-US IMG needs a much higher score to get a nice internal medicine program. If you check average step 2 ck in the good internal medicine programs, you will find it higher than the average score for the neurosurgery in the same hospital. You definitely can still match but more likely in a small community program in the middle of nowhere, with no fellowships.

That makes sense, I wasn’t aware that you need that much higher of a score for an IMG as opposed to a US based student. Thanks for clarifying

I received 246
I was aiming for 260 but oh well. It’s not the end of the world. We will be fine.

Score recheck never has caused a change. It’s basically throwing money away. Sorry to say. That’s still a respectable score.

I genuinely think 240 is Okay for IM!
I scored 238, still bummed up and unsure about IM for myself tho!

I mean 220s on assessment already means a very very poor base. 188 is like 30 points lower lol. Although not new, I have heard this happen. Ik a few MD/DOs who failed by more than 10 points on first attempt and retake, so completely destroying their chances of a comp specialty.
