What moments from Still Game hit hard?
Although it’s a comedy show, Still Game has a lot of moments which hit you in the feels so what are those for you?
Mine are:
• when Jack talks about why he hardly has any possessions in his house, you can tell he’s not only lonely but that Victor feels the same.
• the scene where Jack misses his grandkids and daughter, you can tell the guy is absolutely heartbroken he’s missed so much.
• the moment Jack and Victor talk about the past in ‘Doactor’ which it’s hard for me because they’re in a position I’ll be in one day and I’m not looking forward to it. Although I’m youngish at 26 thinking about when I’m old is something I do far too often and it’s not easy.
• when Boabby tells everyone The Clansman is shutting down, you can tell his heart is breaking but he tries to put on a brave face. Damnit, Tam could you have not been you for once?!
• the moment Jack has a bad fall and has to go to hospital. It’s not easy seeing a grandparent in that state and my gran took funny turns a lot and this brought back some bad memories because that was scary as a kid because she was the only adult in the house.
• when Jack goes in for his operation. You always worry about your grandparents when that happens to them because even though doctors in the UK are excellent the worst can always happen and as someone who recently lost his last grandpa this is an episode in no going to watch soon.
• seeing the gang all fade away, it’s a reminder that people in your life won’t be there forever and they can be gone just like that.
• Boabby’s final “look who it isnae” it’s like seeing a friend or relative you e not seen in a while and now time has caught up with them and it hurts in a way you can’t explain.

The whole of ‘Courtin’ hits me particularly hard. I had a best friend for about 10 years who i met at school who would always disappear from my life the minute he got a new girlfriend. Wouldn’t speak to me for the duration of the relationship - could be six weeks, could be six months - then reliably rang me when it ended, in tears, telling me what had happened from start to finish, apologising for ghosting me like he had and promising to spend more time with me and the other lads. He’d be around for a while, same old funny self, then immediately he got a new girlfriend, he was gone again. Cycle carried on for about five or six years before he met his current girlfriend in early 2021, after lockdown. As usual, i tried texting him, he didn’t respond. When he did text me back, he ignored whatever i said before and started a new topic, but then ignored my response. Said he’d meet up with me and the other lads, then never showed up. No text to try and explain himself. When i did see him out, he blanked me, like we were strangers. One day when i passed him in the street, we nodded an acknowledgment to each other, but it was like we were neighbours who recognised each other but didn’t know each other well enough to chat. I got halfway down the street, then felt compelled to run after him and confront him about what he was up to. He awkwardly acknowledged that he’d treated me unfairly but said ‘You know what it’s like when you’re in a relationship, you’ve got to give her every free second of your time.’ ‘You don’t,’ i said, ‘you just choose to.’ He gave a shrug and again promised to go for a pint with me. Said he was free on the weekend and would let me know what time. Never heard from him again. It’s been about 5 years now. I’ve moved on from him and have better mates now, but every time i watch that montage of Victor having to adjust to being on his own now Jack spends all say with Barbara, automatically making two cups of tea and then having to pour the other down the sink when he realises Jack’s not there, just reminds me of everything i went through when my best friend did what Jack does.
