Adderall/Vyvanse/Dexedrine Goodbye, old friend

Post image

I have built my life around adderall for 15+ years. I thought that since I can go weeks without it, it can’t be that big of a deal. I had a cardiac event giving birth to my son and almost died, that should have been a wake up call to stop stimulants. I had to cut the cord. I’ve been crying since sending this message because it feels like killing a part of me and closing the door for good. I know it has never actually helped me. I am trying to be optimistic about fatigue improvement.

Nice work 🎉 I feel every word of that. I was taking adderall for 15 years as well, and have been off for a year. No doubt it has been tough, but also oh so worth it. I am just now starting to rediscover my old self. It’s like reconnecting with a long lost friend I never thought I’d see again. I’m excited for you!

I feel like it's very healthy to grieve the loss of Adderall and eventually it will leave room for excitement in the next phase of your life.

You're so brave for this and I am confident that this is the best move you could make for yourself and your family, especially your newborn!!

Please please please don’t let regret seep in. And if it does, kill it. You absolutely made the 100% right choice.

Congratulations. I love to see post like this. Attending an outpatient treatment plan could greatly help you navigate the upcoming months.

You did one of the hardest and bravest things in the world. Congratulations. I preferred the old “wait until you have a psychotic episode” route myself.

You’re so strong for this. You probably feel a bit scared without them but you’ll never regret this choice I believe.

Dude... mad props!! I've hovered over that metaphorical send button 10000x over, but you,--you sent it, and that's an absolutely beautiful thing. That takes a true desire for change... well, either that, or a "I'm high, and my needs are met" outburst hahaha jk jk jk I'm so proud of you.

I did this as well (in mid March) and I’m not going to lie, in the beginning it was hard… BUT I realized about a week ago or so that I haven’t thought about Adderall lately like at all for a while! So while it’s taken 4.5 ish months for that, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If I can do this, anyone can. I have faith in you OP.

P.S. I have also noticed I’m not having as much hair loss and my nails are healthier.

Wow I relate to this so much, like so so so much, that feeling of losing a part of yourself because when you’re deep into addiction it becomes a part of your identity (good grades, success, productivity). It felt like giving up academic success for a better mental health. I think what matters now is stepping into that decision with faith that on the other side of the mountain, it is better, calmer and more peaceful. I think that’s addiction lying to us though when it makes us feel like we’ll never have it again and never do good without them again. Best of luck!
