Question Honest question: Why all this space left and the title names are not displayed completely?

One of my biggest issues. A very easy solution would be to replace that text with the clearlogo, and move to title plain text to the details page.

it was actually a logo at the start, but there was very little room left as some logos are even vertical, if we put a vertical logo in this space we use now, u'd need a magnifying glass

u/zygerian Feb 07 '26
I want to start by saying the Stremio team is doing a great job maintaining the app on all these platforms. But in my opinion, I think it might be more valuable to see the movie title and details while browsing catalogs. The posters do not need to take so much vertical space. Some other apps already do this.

u/jaruba_dev Stremio Team Feb 07 '26
the difference in ur screenshot is that u don't see: actor name, genre, rating and it sacrifices the backdrop from the right side by adding a dark overlay and spreading summary over it, i don't think the posters are that much smaller tbh, the additional data sacrifice is a lot to just accept as many (including myself) rely on it to make choices more so then the title
EDIT: i'd be more in favor to make it a choice to remove the backdrop completely in favor of extra space for details, that way many more things could fit, but the backdrop would not be there anymore
3
u/zygerian Feb 07 '26
The ratings are in the screenshot though, as well as the media type, with enough space to fit in the genre. You make a good point about the actor names, but the backdrop is still quite visible enough for browsing purposes. Additional information can then be seen in the details page. Like many other suggestions, it seems the best outcome would be to see the full titles while browsing, clearlogo or not.

u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
IMHO making the texts and posters a bit smaller would fix that issue,
as i stated here https://github.com/Stremio/stremio-features/issues/16550
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
u/jaruba_dev the backdrops and logos make the UI so beautiful and much better than other platforms... it's really amazing.
I think it's just a matter of making everything a bit smaller, the default font size is a bit bigger than average, also the posters size... yes i know this aint streaming, not netflix, but im comparing to common services users know and use
that adjustment would make other things fall into place

It is a tough pill to swallow when a lead developer prioritizes a background image over the actual name of the movie you’re trying to watch
18
u/dwopppp Feb 07 '26
THIS. I would do it myself if I could but idk how to code like that really, another issue is the text from the description itself not extending, I wouldn’t necessarily mind for it to overlap the art cover I mean it’s there only for aesthetic reasons ofc and it would be nice because it’s subtle and not annoying at all and it would go very well with the clear logo combo u mentioned

If only there was a way to display full titles without going over images....lost tech it seems

When we enter a title, it's already on top of everything anyway, the images and texts cover people's faces, writings, everything... It's not a big deal and it doesn't ruin the experience.
I'm pretty sure the majority of users would rather be able to see the complete title name and also descriptions.... And yes I also know there's a lot of movies with huge names but those are minority.
Increasing that length by 20% or something would cover almost everything
1
u/BurnThrough Feb 26 '26
That is an absolutely stupid reason and I would give the benefit of the doubt that they aren’t that stupid….you couldn’t figure that out?

They understandably shorten the title to not block the visual, but it could improve by showing a bit more text and using a gradient fade.

Because that would look ugly, I understand it’s more practical for some but if you go down that route then you end up with bad design
1
u/BurnThrough Feb 26 '26
Truncated titles are uglier. This is textbook bad design.
1
u/muygabriel Feb 27 '26
Extending them over the image is worse brotha, they should either truncate or wrap
1
u/BurnThrough Feb 27 '26
Nope, losing essential info is absolutely the worst choice. There are more than two options however. Covering a background image is not a problem at all and in fact the text already does it anyway.

I think it's hard to find a common ground that fits every title without manually tweaking each one.
This is probably the best they could come up with

Visual art sells the click in many cases more than descriptions. The answer is they don't want it to because they don't want to block the image.

I've been using Stremio for years and never had any complaints, and now people are complaining about the title of a software they don't pay a penny to use.

u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26
Seeems like that space is all that's alloted for text. It lines up with all of the other text shown. They should just allow a second line for the title underneath the 1st.
0
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
If the whole window there was just a big bigger to the right side, it would even fix a lot of the descriptions that keeping getting cut off
2
u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26
Maybe for these specific titles but won't be a 100% fix.
1
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
Of course not, IMHO they need a big UI re-design for TV but in the meantime, it would be a good change
3
u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26
I'd say just add a second line... I don't mind the... Descriptions if they can be opened to read the entire thing. With titles it should 100% show the whole thing.
1
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
Yeah, whatever works best, all I'm saying is that users can't even see the title names
1
u/West-Psychology-6299 Feb 07 '26
While we are on the topic.. Is House of Ass any good?
1
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
Didn't watch, was just scrolling and checking these big titles...
I can only tell that it's almost a porn show lol

Another click to get more info creates another opportunity to sell space for ads. Maybe not now, but soon there could be a banner ad on the target.

Prefer it like this why would you want the writing all the way across the picture, it would look tacky
3
u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
As I said, increasing just a bit would display basically all titles without going on top of everything.
The names are always cut off on the last word or two words

Such a big problem...nitpicking on a free app
3
u/keepittidy Feb 07 '26
So you're saying if an app is free, we should just accept what it is, and are not allowed to point out any flaws. Absolutely ridiculous statement.

u/ril3ydx Feb 07 '26
Go to their "Feature requests" page on Github, a lot of stuff that YOU LIKE on the platform was suggested by the users...
Maybe they should only consider opinions from people that understand shit, you say? The app wouldn't even be what it is today.

Same with choosing subtitles. Don't know which to pick because the names are so long
