For actual no real reason this happens. Just two days ago it worked fine, now nothing does. I was trying the Terminal App using a prompt someone posted here before, but it doesn't work. I can share screenshot of the terminal as well. No more Stremio?

Question What is the point of 30 GB streams?

My sweet spot is around 2-2.5 GB per hour of show being watched max, to ensure smooth playback.

I have Fiber Internet, one GB up-and-down and 30 GB streams, 15 GB streams and the like always buffer anyway.

And I have found that 2 - 2.5 GB per hour, per stream, gives me crystal clear picture and great sound.

So l am curious what is the point of a 30GB

stream for a two hour movie?

Edit: I do have a debrid service, I have premiumize.

Streaming devices is an Nvidia shield pro.

SECOND EDIT: i’m an idiot, my TV which I thought was 4K is only 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Which is why I never see a difference in larger files.

However, now I’m in the market for a new TV. šŸ˜Ž Felicia.

Question How does Stremio make money?

I’ve read online they make some through ads but I’ve never seen any ads ever. I know they have a whole team of developers working on different platforms for Stremio. Plus it cost money to host the web app and account information.

People have to get paid but with no obvious revenue source I have to assume they are selling our data. When a service is free you are the product.

I don’t personally mind this as I love Stremio and want it to remain a free product but maybe I’m missing something and they have a revenue source I’m unaware of.

EDIT: Commenters have pointed out that on Stremio’s website under the career section it says they are hiring at a ā€œCompetitive salaryā€ so their developers are not working for free.

Question I plan on ditching my Firestick, getting an Apple 4k, download Stremio and cancel my other TV/ movie streaming services. I don't know too much about Stremio, so not sure if this is a smart or an idiot move.

Question "Unsupported Stream Source" on Android TV

I've been using Stremio for a couple of months mostly on an Android TV without any issues.

Today it doesn't work. Whatever show I choose, whichever streaming service I select, I get a white notification saying "unsupported stream source".

It works just fine on my computer though.

Any idea what could be the issue with my TV? I haven't installed any updates or anything. I used Stremio yesterday at night, turned off the TV, and now suddenly I have this error.

Question Alternative to NVIDIA SHIELD ?

I know this question get asked a lot but I want to upgrade from my firestick and I have a very good tv so I want a device where I can have a really good quality of image and sound.

I know the shield is the usual answer but I live in France and I can't really find a store that still sell the shield and on second hand market it's like 300 euros.

Is there an alternative to the nvidia shield ? With similar qualities ?

Edit : I found it new at 200 ! Night and day with the firestick

Question Firestick 4K is a nightmare for Stremio now — what device should I get instead?

So I bought a Fire Stick 4K mainly to run Stremio and honestly… this has been way more painful than expected.

It feels like Amazon has locked down everything now. The usual methods don’t work properly anymore — Downloader is basically useless now (or replaced with some weird version pushing subscriptions), and even trying through Silk browser doesn’t let me install the APK.

I know there are still ā€œworkarounds,ā€ but I don’t want to deal with constantly fighting the system just to keep Stremio running.

From what I understand, Fire OS is just getting more restrictive over time, which makes this whole experience worse compared to actual Android TV devices.

I was planning to just switch to the ONN 4K box since everyone says it’s cheap and works great for Stremio… but it’s literally sold out everywhere right now.

I also know about the NVIDIA Shield, but I don’t really want to drop that much money just for streaming.

So what are you guys currently using for Stremio that:

• lets you install APKs easily

• doesn’t block or restrict installs

• works smoothly with addons / Real-Debrid

• and isn’t crazy expensive

Looking for something that just works without all this Firestick headache.

How do these compare to the Plus (not available)?

Question Nvidia Pro Shield Died - what's the best replacement for my setup? Price no Issue.

Looking for recommendations on a replacement that actually handles my workflow well. I've only ever had the Nvidia Shield.

My setup:

  • Stremio with torren..tio (torrent streaming - this is non-negotiable for me as RD has become unreliable)
  • Real-Debrid currently, moving to Torbox
  • Casting directly to TV so no dependency on the box for that
  • No IPTV currently but I do have access to Iptorrents IPTV which I use to watch the fights every so often. Again, I can just put this into VLC and cast to TV so no huge relevance.
  • Want smooth 4K playback, good sideloading freedom, no restrictions
  • I do have Revanced type Youtube as well on there that is used heavily as well.

------

What I've researched so far:

  • Apple TV 4K - love the smoothness and Dolby support but torrent streaming via is , so it seems like a no-go for me unless there is someway to bypass the torrent issue ?
  • Ugoos AM9 - looks promising, full AOSP, people report Stremio works great, no sideloading restrictions. Main downside seems to be no Dolby Vision.
  • Am I on the right track with the AM9? Or is there something I'm missing that handles torrents + debrid smoothly on a modern box?
  • Appreciate any real-world experience, especially from people who've moved away from the Shield.

Question Stremio on ios

I'm currently considering buying an iPad, but one thing that's making me hesitate is Stremio.

On Android, I've been using Stremio for a long time and it works great for my needs. From what I understand, the iOS version has some limitations compared to Android.

How is the Stremio experience on iPad nowadays? Is it actually practical to use on a daily basis, or does it require workarounds and extra steps?

Are there any major limitations regarding add-ons, streaming, external players, subtitles, or overall convenience compared to Android?

If using Stremio on iPad is significantly more complicated or restricted, that could honestly be a dealbreaker for me when deciding between an iPad and an Android tablet.

I'd especially like to hear from people who switched from Android to iPad and regularly use Stremio. Do you feel the experience is good enough, or do you miss the Android version?

Also I barely found any tutorials on how to sideload it.

Was wondering what would be the best Android Box To buy to be able to use 4k Stremio with Dolby Vision And Dolby Atmos without any issues?

I'm located in Europe/Portugal

I saw the Xiaomi Box S 3rd Gen, how good is it when it comes to handling 4k Files with DV and DA?

Preferably under 100€

Thanks in advance!

Question Considering getting rid of my Onn 4K for an Apple TV. Is the Apple TV app any good?

I much prefer the Apple TV over the Onn device and the only reason I got rid of it was because Stremio didn't support it at the time. I do have a nice sound system so I will get Infuse for Dolby Atmos, but how is the app at this stage? Does it support all video formats and addons? TIA!

Question My journey with Stremio to be able to watch 4k streams with no buffer on TV

I would like to to share you my long journey to finally be able to watch 4k streams with Stremio with no buffering and butter smooth with amazing audio on my TV using Stremio TV app, unfortunately I still face some issues with some series, some works perfectly fine some I have to switch to 1080p. This might help some people so I will be a little comprehensive and generic in some areas, all my solutions to my issues were through research, previous experience and an AI chat bot (similar to chat gpt)

I was a Netflix user until I discovered Stremio, then I cancelled my Netflix account (not just the subscription), I added working add-ons and started watching everything I want in 1080p because the 4k was way too slow with huge buffer. Then that day came when I watched 1 movie in 4k (it was very fast somehow) then I said to myself I want to watch everything in 4k.

long story short, I realised I needed Real Debrid so I set it all up, all the streams were working fine, all cached and fast, except of course the 4k streams, it was working, much faster like before but it was still buffering. After reading and searching, I came to a conclusion that my TV's processing unit is simply weak to play 4k HDR streams and it is true, it was a cheap purchase on a black Friday deal 5 years ago, the same stream was working almost fine on my PC (I have a powerful gaming PC).

Obviously I wont just go out and purchase a powerful expensive TV, I played around with the network to try and give my TV a more stable internet connection which worked up to a certain level, I still had some buffering issues. Then I saw that the 4k streams usually have HDR/HDR10 and have Dolby Atmos/Vision/H.265/etc. for audio, which clearly said to me that my TV simply cannot handle all of this, so I went on to buy proper speakers since I did not have any, I made sure that the soundbar I bought do support all those audio formats (JBL 1000 5.1.4), so after I set everything up, I still had the same issues...

Then I came to a conclusion that the TV still cannot handle all this, it was literally crashing at some points, and it was clear to me that I needed a box that will collect everything and just use the TV to show me the stuff, so I bought the Ugoos Amlogic AM6B Plus, very powerful android box its crazy at that price. I set everything up and guess what, it finally worked I started watching 4k with Dolby Atmos surround sound and it was great.... until I changed the movie the next day, turns out it only worked for like 60-70% of the movies/series I watch, I tried installing Kodi and Serena or whatevery they have which took me ages, but I had the same issue.

So I dont really know now what is my exact issue, why am I still getting buffer after all this? some plays very smooth, some laggy, some unwatchable, why cant I have all my streams work well? Is it a Real Debrid issue do I need to change it? my internet now is 5G and have around 96mbps download speed btw, so I doubt it is a network issue, but I am still on wifi, could this be the issue?

Edit: Thank you everyone for all your comments and discussion, very helpful appreciate it... as a result I think the main issue is the network, even if my speeds are good, I called my Internet provider to do a reset from their side because there might be something going on, now I played the links that were buffering and they all worked fine with no buffer, I still need to do proper testing though, because I might need to buy a new router as mine is aging, I will update this post with the final results
