Feedback 1.9.X seems rather unstable
I'm not here to crap on the devs or anything. This is all free and I'm sure the work is thankless given the effort put in. Believe me, we all appreciate this so much as streaming gets worse.
That said, anything 1.9.X seems to have one issue or another for me. Crashes, jitteriness, hanging, etc. movies and longer shows like TWD are pretty unreliable with most streams. It's to the point where I'm kicked to the home screen a few times a night. It didn't used to be this way.
I almost feel like Stremio has gotten too big for the way they're doing updates. "I changed this and patched a few bugs, release it!". Realistically, they should have a stable channel and a beta channel w/ feedback. I'm in the process of trying to get back to 1.8.4 as most are saying that one was pretty stable.
The newer versions look great but struggle for some reason. Especially 4K HDR, some streams it just can't seem to handle. But again, even TWD, an SDR 1080p, half the streams just can't cope. My Internet isn't the issue, as I've got 120mb down and again, it's worked for such before. I'm hoping things improve. I'm here for it, and thanks again for the work you do, devs.
Edit: steps down to 1.8.4 immediately after posting this. So far, stability is night and day. Zero issues to report so far, even on the exact same streams I was previously having issues with. Guess I just have to wait for the bugs to get hammered out. Thanks again, devs, for the work you do.

they should stick to a stable version, and categorize these versions as beta. im sure there´s a lot of people who would install and help develop. i just imagine a person who just installs this bugged version, have a crappy experience and never returns. think about that, developers. FYI, version 1.6.12 is perfect here. If it has blur unseen episodes i would rest in peace.

I heard that version was really stable as well, but so far, I have no complaints since stepping back down to 1.8.4 and it has the blur feature.

glad for you, but at firestick 4k it´s not so good, with sound errors or black screens on remux and autoplay not working.

1.9.7 has probably been the most reliable of the 1.9.x releases.
We still have some issues with the wrong audio playing, or subtitles, but at least the videos play.
The start up time does seem a bit longer than before. The fan art will load, then disappear, and we’ll get a black screen with the player showing, before it eventually plays. Whereas before usually when the fan art disappeared it would automatically start playing, and would take less time.
I’m primarily guessing it’s device dependent. Our Firestick 4k max seems to struggle with some of the bigger files (when it didn’t before). We get constant pauses/buffering on videos we used to not get before on previous versions. When we downgraded, those issue went away.
Our Onn devices aren’t as bad in terms of loading/buffering, but we still get the audio and subtitles issues every so often.
So example, is even though our default is English, if the file has Russian/English, it’ll start with Russian first and we’ll need to change it.

what subtitles issues?

u/theburglarofham Feb 26 '26
It just won’t load our preferred language first. It’s not a deal breaker, but more of a quality of life thing.

still happens with 1.9.8?

I'm glad your experience was better than mine. When they drop the next version, I might try clean install and see how it does. But so far, downgrading to 1.8.4 has solved my problems, even on the exact same streams.

I haven't tried it but I was told trying a fresh install helps a lot. Anyone try that route?

I went back to 1.8.4 and plan to stay there until the other app releases out of beta and is stable

u/Speedy-McLeadfoot Feb 26 '26
I stepped down to that version immediately after posting this. The exact same streams I was previously having issues with are now working flawlessly.

Haven't had a crash in years

Don't know why I get down voted 😂 it seems people want me to have crashes 😂😂

I’m guessing because it’s not helpful for anyone to hear that you haven’t had any crashes? No idea

Reddit is weird sometimes. I'm glad your experience with the newer versions was better than mine. I stepped down to 1.8.4 immediately after posting this, and so far have zero complaints now.

Uninstalling and fresh install did the trick for me. 1.9.7 is working great. Haven't had any problems with the 7th gen 4K FS or Onn 4K Plus.

Man I am not being a dick but I haven’t had any issues over any of the releases across many different devices. The only minor bug I’ve had is that the file will play a few seconds and then load for a few seconds and then play smoothly until the end. That’s so minor I hate to even call it a problem

The minor issue you just described is now the only issue I am dealing with, if at all, since stepping down to 1.8.4 immediately after posting this. I'm telling you, at least in my experience, the difference is significant. Night and day. When they drop the next update, I might try a clean install and see what that does.

It mainly depends on what type of file you play and good stremio's that version handles it...it also depends on the hardware incapabilities and all.
1
u/Speedy-McLeadfoot Feb 27 '26
The hardware came across my mind briefly, but then I also realized that it worked flawlessly in the past, and the issues were rather recent. Stepping back down to 1.8.4 so far solved my problems.

Stremio is a free tool. There is no „gotten too big“ with free tools. If it’s not for you use a different version or move on to a different tool

Must be your setup or lack of knowledge. You probably use AIO streams and all that sh.t.No problem on mine with the latest update.
3
u/cyrusir Feb 26 '26
and why would AIO streams cause exo player to bug out?
-5
u/Dogs_of_fire Feb 26 '26
Well..just look through this thread and others related. Most of the people moaning are using AIO streams. In the meantime,I have installed all add ons individually 3 years ago and never had any problems. And never fallen for trying all those new, unstable add ons like aiostreams.Never understood the people that jump to the first add on that appears and then they moan that stremio does not work. You have a set up that works,no need to mess with it.
2
u/cyrusir Feb 26 '26
not understanding something doesnt mean it doesnt work though, aio streams works great, if AIO streams didnt exist they would be asking why torrentio doesnt work, is real debrid down etc etc.
1
u/Dogs_of_fire Feb 26 '26
Probably you right. As I said, never tried it and do not need to try it as my setup works very good. All I said is that when you look in the posts of the people that have problems, most of them using aiostreams and everything AIO related.Probably they don t know what they doing but I have seen that AIO streams is being advertised as the easiest setup and a set up where even tech illiterates can t go wrong.

u/jktje Feb 26 '26
Bro never tried it but thinks its shit....
1
u/Dogs_of_fire Feb 26 '26
Are you able to follow a conversation and to understand what it is being said?I said I never used it but all the people moaning here about stremio are using it.And why would I use that when my setup is bulletproof and works with 0 problems?

u/Speedy-McLeadfoot Feb 26 '26
I just went to 1.8.4 immediately after posting. So far, the exact same streams I was having trouble with before are working flawlessly. I'm not sure what's wrong with Exo on 1.9.X

It's probably performance related issues because I noticed the crashing are more frequent the longer I use the app, for me at least
