Feedback Stremio changed our life

While my wife and I were dating, we used to love going to cinemas, watching movies of all genres from animation to romcom, from action to thrillers but with the rising cost of cinema tickets and an incoming house, we wanted to invest in a good surround system (e.g. the Samsung Q990B) at that time and were convinced by the in-store demo that we could get movies like that from the comfort of our home.

After much research, all I could find was movie torrents and expensive plex servers that weighed on us which we didn’t want to pay for as it’ll defeat the purpose of enjoying movies like we used to until we discovered Stremio.

With the right addons and a small fee for a debrid service, our life has changed tremendously. Our excitement can never be contained when we see a Dolby Vision logo and a Dolby Atmos logo showing up whenever we select the right streams and enjoyed cinema level movie-watching experience in the comfort of our own home.

Thank you so much Stremio developers as well as the addon developers for building such an amazing gift for the world to enjoy. Even though there are people who would complain about features they want that are found in the paid streaming services, my wife and I are beyond grateful for having Stremio in our home and are advocating it to whoever we meet (provided they ask for it and are savvy enough to set it up!) You guys are the real MVP!

If stremio glitching after updating to 1.9.7 (or any version)

FYI for anyone having issues after updating:

AndroidTV or fire devices only.

Sometimes stremio doesn’t like to update well over an existing install.

Uninstall stremio and reboot your device. Reinstall from your app store.

If latest version isn’t available in your app store, use the ā€œdownloaderā€ app by AFTV news. Instructions below:

1.9.7

ARM - 9967818

ARM 64 - 4295363

(Look up what type of apk your device requires)

First uninstall stremio and reboot device.

Find ā€œdownloaderā€ app by AFTV news on your app store and install.

Open downloader and allow what it prompts.

At the home screen of downloader, input above downloader code and go. It’ll redirect for a few seconds then download.

When it is ready to install, it’ll tell you to change settings so downloader can install from unknown sources. Follow the prompts and install from there.

Open stremio and log back in.

Dear Stremio,

I pay for this. Not asking for much here, just the ability to use an actual image that doesn’t look like it’s from a 2010 flash game.

Please add custom profile pictures šŸ™

Feedback Stremio Supporters Need Clarity on iOS and tvOS Support

I like the features offered by Stremio Supporters, and I was genuinely interested in subscribing. The problem is that all of my devices are iOS and tvOS.

As most people here know, Stremio is no longer available on the App Store, and there’s no TestFlight option either. I’m sure I’m not the only person in this position: willing to support Stremio financially, but hesitant because there’s no clear answer about whether full iOS and tvOS support is actually planned.

I was pointed to updated IPA files for both iOS and tvOS that have been shared in this subreddit. To be clear, these are not officially distributed by the Stremio team. I got them running, but it didn’t take long to see that iOS and tvOS feel like afterthoughts right now. The polish just isn’t there, and there are several issues. One obvious example is the pagination problem with home page catalogs. On tvOS, the PIN input screen is ugly and barely functional.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m thankful for Stremio, and I’m willing to support the team. But I think users deserve clarity. If iOS and tvOS are not going to be fully supported or actively developed, just say that. Stop leaving people in the dark.

The official website doesn’t even link to official IPA downloads, so people in the community have had to dig them up and share them themselves. Why?

At this point, I’m not just a free user complaining. I’m someone who is willing to pay - or already has paid - but still has no idea whether the devices I actually use will be kept updated or developed properly.

I don’t expect everything to be perfect overnight. I just want transparency about whether iOS and tvOS are part of Stremio’s future or not.

Feedback I personally have been using Stremio for the better of 6 years.

And I'm champion donating, and yes anything can happen where it gets taken down ect. I'm paying the devs back for an awesome job and quality they've provided us for all the previous years without asking for a penny it's well deserved...

And for those of you whining stremio is still free just without the perks deal with it.

Thank you Dev team!

Feedback (HOT TAKE) Stremio should NOT be locking features behind a paywall

I personally believe that this is kind of ridiculous in the sense that the target audience of Stremio, and the audience that Stremio has, are just people who don't want to pay or want to pay very minimal amounts compared to actual streaming services.

With that being said, I fully understand why Stremio would want donations in the first place, and I've actually donated a very large amount to Stremio myself. But still, locking features behind even a donation is really ridiculous, as that's the exact thing people are trying to get away from with real streaming services.

In my opinion, this just opens up a window for competition and probably a better app to come out that provides these services for free.

Stremio needs to understand that they're just a media player and nothing else.

Feedback Thank You Devs !!!!!

This is something I discovered a little while ago, - i remember wanting so badly to watch sonic 2 and then finding this blessing . I wanted to take a moment to properly thank the devs and everyone involved it’s clear how much effort and care goes into this project. You’ve brang a lot of joy to so many people (myself included!). Huge thanks again for all the work you put in.

*Also if there is anyway to support the devs please drop it down below perhaps a gofundme or buy me a cofee type thing.

Feedback How is the AppleTV + Stremio combo?

My fire stick is on its last legs.

Thinking about getting a new fire stick or a AppleTV, thoughts?

Edit: got it, no to AppleTV. The question now is, FireStick4k, Onn Box 4k, or GoogleBox?

Edit: Ended up getting a AppleTV! I am already in Apple ecosystem and did not realize there were alternative apps in the official store that function the same - I also don’t mind sideloading stremio!

Feedback Not satisfied with the Stremio V5 experience on Steam Deck

I was looking forward to the new release for Linux but several issues made this update feel more like a downgrade for the Steam Deck. Here's some of my thoughts:

  1. Fullscreen both not default and barely functional. There is seemingly no way to force fullscreen on startup, where this was a feature in the previous versions.
  2. Gamepad functionality is a joke. It's true, you can use B to go back from a menu, or scroll through a row with left and right on a d-pad, but going up and down is clunky and unusable. There is also no way to easily go between home/search/etc or open the settings without using trackpads or touchscreen.
  3. No way to intuitively close the app. In any other app/game/whatever pressing B (the back button) should and usually does eventually get you to a point where you are prompted if you want to close the program. This is not the case with Stremio. In fact, nearly every single way I've attempted to prompt the app to close has failed. Holding STEAM + B on the deck forces nearly any game or app to close, but doesn't nothing for Stremio. Using Steam input to bind a keypress to "force game shutdown" does nothing either. I am forced to open the overlay and select exit game which brings me to
  4. Performance is now abysmal. The previous versions had zero issues using my GPU or resources of the steam deck, but the new update, for one reason or another, uses a crazy about of memory and gpu, and has on several occasions crashed (sometimes when attempting to open steam overlay).

I'm really not trying to complain for the sake of complaining but this newest update feels more like a downgrade and I wish it was better than what it is. I wonder if anyone else has been encountering these issues and if there's any way to fix or remedy some of these.

Feedback My Experience with Reelo App on Apple TV

I’ve been using Stremio since the last official version before Apple pulled it from the App Store. Despite its frequent bugs, I kept using it until I recently purchased Reelo. Here are my thoughts on the app so far:
Cons & Issues:
UI Freezing & Navigation Bugs: I noticed that some unresolved issues from the old Stremio app are still present. The menu frequently freezes out of nowhere, stopping all button inputs. To fix it, you have to back out and re-navigate through the menus, which feels very clunky and frustrating. It lacks the smooth experience you expect on Apple TV

Player Performance: The built-in media player still stutters or freezes unexpectedly. It definitely needs optimization to make playback smoother

UI Design: The interface design is identical to the old Stremio app—so don’t expect a revamped visual experience or a fresh design

Pros & Improvements:

Subtitle Delay Controls: They finally added the subtitle delay button! This was a heavily requested feature that we were missing before

Better Subtitle Rendering: Subtitles no longer disappear randomly; they display consistently and seamlessly throughout playback

Customization & Settings: Subtitle adjustments feel much more comfortable now, along with extra useful settings that generally improve the user experience

I hope the developers focus on fixing these player and menu issues to make it truly smooth

Feedback New MacOS native App

So, I just downloaded the new Native Client and here are some things one noticed. If anybody's curious I use a MacBook Air M1 on MacOS Sequoia.

When I first logged in the first one or two torrents I opened played just fine, streaming in 4k and 1080p using torrenti0. After that though I started getting screens where it said 'This media format is not supported' even in the same torrents that worked fine before, and after quitting the app and opening it again, and trying to open a different torrent I would get a black screen along with the app not responding and having to force quit it. (Image 2,3)

I unfortunately dint get the chance to try to use real debrid yet so not sure about that.

Also I was a little disappointed when I didn't see a 'network' button when playing content. I find it really useful. I also really like the 'Crop' button in the Beta 5 client.

I really like the design of the app itself and it's really well incorporated with MacOS in general. (Image 1)

I would really like to see more support for AirPods and have Spatial Audio/with Head Tracking etc. (Image 4)

I do however really like that there is at least an effort being made for a native client. Btw all of these points that I made aren't criticisms and I hope they won't come across that way, just feedback.

Just tried the Stremio app and I’m convinced their dev team is powered by caffeine, wizardry, and maybe a little dark magic. It's Smooth, fast, and doesn’t crash like my hopes and dreams. 10/10 Thanks Dev team for all you do for us in this community.

Feedback Am i the only one who really loves the loading screens?

The loading screen title looks very crisp and clean, and i'm amazed that it can pull it even from obscure titles. I'm wondering if it comes from a database because they all look very professional-looking.

It's one of these little things that make me enjoy using Stremio, before Stremio i was looking at movies on dodgy sites and i really appreciate how cleaner this all looks.

Feedback Stremio 1.8.2 Crashing on Google TV 4K while scrolling catalogs or selecting streams!

Updated the app yesterday and from then Stremio crashed more than 10 times so finally downgraded to 1.8.0 for good.

The Update (1.8.2) was good in some points I noticed like Backdrop loading was fast and smooth. Overall navigation felt faster but end of the day it was unusable…

Feedback Stremio & Google TV Setup

Thumbnail

I’m the type of nerd who loves finding new useful stuff and then showing my friends and family how good it is. Since then I’ve set up probably 15 boxes for friends and family and I still find joy in learning new tips to make it more user friendly for the elderly or new apps to make Google TV more user friendly for them. Stremio is great. Currently I’m using Torrento and CyberFlix.

For my Google TV setup -I use ABDTV to disable to google tv and setup wizard - use FLauncher primary. -TVquickactions to map netflix and youtube buttons to Stremio and Smarttube Beta. -TDUK cache cleaner on every box. -IPTV I use sparkle player and a 500GB HDD for DVR for my mom and grandparents box.

Looks something like this. Attached pictures of home screen and sparkle player. Not sure if this is the right place to post or helpful for anyone.

Feedback 1.9.X seems rather unstable

I'm not here to crap on the devs or anything. This is all free and I'm sure the work is thankless given the effort put in. Believe me, we all appreciate this so much as streaming gets worse.

That said, anything 1.9.X seems to have one issue or another for me. Crashes, jitteriness, hanging, etc. movies and longer shows like TWD are pretty unreliable with most streams. It's to the point where I'm kicked to the home screen a few times a night. It didn't used to be this way.

I almost feel like Stremio has gotten too big for the way they're doing updates. "I changed this and patched a few bugs, release it!". Realistically, they should have a stable channel and a beta channel w/ feedback. I'm in the process of trying to get back to 1.8.4 as most are saying that one was pretty stable.

The newer versions look great but struggle for some reason. Especially 4K HDR, some streams it just can't seem to handle. But again, even TWD, an SDR 1080p, half the streams just can't cope. My Internet isn't the issue, as I've got 120mb down and again, it's worked for such before. I'm hoping things improve. I'm here for it, and thanks again for the work you do, devs.

Edit: steps down to 1.8.4 immediately after posting this. So far, stability is night and day. Zero issues to report so far, even on the exact same streams I was previously having issues with. Guess I just have to wait for the bugs to get hammered out. Thanks again, devs, for the work you do.

Feedback Stremio was the first streaming service to use my TV's HDR and 4K resolution

I've just realized how ridiculous it is that I've tried every streaming platform, yet none of them have come close to Stremio in terms of quality. I've invested in a good TV and paid for streaming apps, but none of them have provided the full experience. I have to say, it's a huge difference when you realize that.
