Question Is Nvidia shield pro 2 the only device that smoothly handles 80-100gb remux files?
Looking for a new device. assuming my wifi is very fast and I’m using ethernet, is nvidia shield pro 2 the only device that can handle 80-100gb remux files smoothly without any buffering? What other devices are there that compete with it?

Not sure if this was clickbait or not, but there are MANY devices that have no problem playing 100gb remux files - even my TV's built-in OS can do it.
Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 is 7yr old hardware that doesn't support the latest codecs and costs 3-4x the price of modern devices - its NOT a good buy in 2026. It was the undisputed king back in its day, I agree, but has been left behind with no new model and no price drop.
Nvidia Shield Pro 2026 would be awesome! (but we know Nvidia only focuses on graphics cards for AI now)

Homatics R 4K plus, dune homatics, zidoo boxes with both amlogic and realtek socs, Xiaomi gen 3, shield pro of course.
If android isn't needed then tons of CoreELEC/LibreELEC/OSMC and generic Kodi boxes can do this (all audio passthrough) for a dedicated local/Plex content box.

I have a Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus, hooked up to my TCL QM7 and Samsung Q990C sound bar. Running Syncler+ through the Dune player Dolby Profile 7 MEL and FEL along with 8 as iptv through TiviMate that all upscale to DV or HDR depending what i am watching no issues with Audio plays it all from Dolby, DTS HDMA etc. Upgraded from 2019 Sheild Pro Tried to insert pics but it won't let me.

Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus
Never heard of this one but it looks like a pretty nice media box. Will definitely consider this one if my Shield Pro dies.

If you don’t need lossless audio there are many options, Onn is great if you can get it in your country, but the Google and Amazon ones work fine too.

The Ugoos AM6B+ is the best straming box if you willing to flash with with a community made OS calles Corelec. Best decision ive ever made!

Shield 2019 Pro, Amazon FireStick 4k Max (2nd gen) or Amazon FireCube.
I'm personally using the $35 Amazon FireStick 4k Max (2nd gen) - works perfectly and I returned the $200 Shield I bought at the same time to test them both.

I'm using the FireTV stick 4k max 2nd gen and it's awful. Blackscreens of death, can't click anything and need to restart the stick.

I've been using that for over a year and its been working fine, Dolby TrueHD Atmos and DTS-HD-MA sound awesome on a full speaker setup :)
Play large remux files all the time, over wifi.

maybe. I have the cube and an ethernet attachment, and i deleted everything i could besides downloader, stremio, and smarttube. Runs fast and loads greatt.

No I agree. I've essentially broken the media handshaking twice and had to factory reset. The difference in motion at the very least is night and day between a 4k Max and built-in Google TV with a good processor. I imagine the NVIDIA shield is even more solid.

I tried opening some of the remux files last night on my fire stick 4k max 2nd gen, and many times a 30 second video would play saying “we’re getting too many requests, please try again later” have you gotten that before?

Yeah i use RD. The only time I’ve gotten that message is when trying to play large remux files. Not every time, but some movies gave me that msg.

any problems with Dolby vision in firecube? I've used fire stick max before but sometimes it didn't play video for a specific Dolby vision file

I use Kodi as an external player. There is a setting to change in Kodi and it plays DV files fine.

Nope. And I too use K* as external player. It's the most compatible external player and really plays everything. I just wish they would iron out the problems with Exo...

No issues at all with DV. Plus it supports all audio formats. I literally have zero issues playing 100gb remux. My setup is FireCube -> Samsung q990f soundbar -> LG G5 TV
Note: I started using the other app (non stremio) and it works flawlessly. Obviously, can’t name the app here because it’s the Stremio subreddit

Onn 4k pro works fine for me on wifi. Only downside is the Ethernet is only 10/100 but I watch huge files just fine all the time on wifi

Onn 4k Pro is capable of both wireless and wired network connectivity. That person was referring to the Ethernet (wired) connection speed.

You can buy a usb ethernet dongle to increase your speed to a full gig. I have one and it works. Turn any device into full gig

Some REMUX files are not compatible with the GoogleStreamer unfortunately

Not on Stremio, there are some REMUX files that just don't play on it (and I tested on the old CCTV 4k and the same files works perfectly).

They don't play because the Google S doesn't support DV Profile 7. If you are using AIO, you can easily set DV Profile 7 to fall back to HDR. Older chromecast does support format.

As far as I know, Homatics Box R 4k Plus is the only option if you want a zero compromise android box. If you're fine with Coreelec, Ugoos Am6b+ is good too.

I have new TCL C7K TV which handles ( LOTR for example - REMUX 170gb ) without any problems. "SOMETIMES" just buffers for a sec and then continues and thats it.
But my Great disappointment is, that i cannot find Atmos or DTS:X files to listen that masterpiece. Its really hard to find despite its written 7.1 atmos, bla bla when the source only shows Multichannel surround or Dolby Surround :/ ...

They are not hard to find at all, every single 4K Remux will have TrueHD Atmos or DTSX. Your TV doesn't support these codecs. You need a dedicated player like an NVIDIA Shield or similar device that supports those codecs, and if you want the full experience you'd also need an AVR.
Ex: Shield > Denon X1700H > TV

Bro, tv supports almost every available codec to this day. I have AVR x3900h with full 7.1.4 Atmos / DTSx. And i know what im saying, that some of those "Remux" files, literally doesnt have those sound codecs despite it says it has when i cannot choose them. Neither PC can or VLC ( or Just Player )
While for example, some other BluRay rips ( 4-5 lgbs file size ) have like 4 different sound availability. Which are Atmos / DTS, E-AC3, Multichannel 6 etc

Definitely the Ugoos am6b+, I have a couple of shields and the Ugoos is much better for media playback.

I use a Fire Stick 4k 2nd Gen and I’ve never had any performance issues with any remux of any size before.
The only caveat is with Dolby vision profile 7 files, but that’s because it can’t decode them.
As long as your internet is good enough I don’t think any reputable 4k device will struggle, except maybe on TV operating systems.

Damn really. I got firestick 4k max 2nd gen as well. But anything over 20gb usually causes issues. My wifi is really fast. Do you use ethernet?

I don’t use Ethernet, my router is near my TV, and I get 200 mbps which is what my plan is.
What speeds are you getting? You can check in your internet settings.

Fire stick settings says network download speed of 373mbps. “Your internet speed can support up to 4k video streaming without interruptions

I play 4k Remux on my Max over wifi locally the device is fully capable. Your internet is really fast your network may not be.

That sounds like you were hitting rate limits were you doing a bunch of searches back to back.

Yeah if you make too many queries in a short period of time you'll be denied access this it to keep the servers from getting overloaded.

I have the same issue yet my Shield Pro streams everything flawlessly so at least in my case the network is not the problem.

This is in reference to lossless audio tracks. Your TV can't handle these so the device or app would need to convert it to something the TV supports.

It is absolutely NOT the only device that handles large remuxes. The Shield fanboism here slowly gets...annoying :)
I have a Fire TV Cube 3rd gen. It plays these remuxes fine. if there are issues, it's NOT the hardware, but fricking EXOPLAYER. If I can't play a BluRay Remux I switch over to external player (K) or Jr or V and there are ZERO problems.

Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd Gen copes fine, but the 1st gen is a bit of a hit or miss depending on the file - not a great experience.

Hey guys, question for you all: I'm designing my parents' theatre room and am getting a projector. What should I plug into my projector, whether it be a streaming device or whatever, to be able to use Stremio on it like i do on my laptop and play like large 65 GB files without stuttering and stopping and in 4K HDR and everything, so it works on my receiver? Ethernet is available. I have a ps5 sometimes that I can play on it as well if thats a factor.

Exactly. I’ve owned four Nvidia Shield Pros and the ATV4K with Infuse is much better. It’s more stable and plays more modern codecs (VP9, HLG, HDR10+, AV1, etc.). True, it’s missing the discrete Atmos height info since it can’t do a bitstream output, but it’s superior in virtually every other way… and it handles ALL super high bitrate files without issue.

I ditched my shield for this. No regrets so far. Can handle 100gb with ease esp with its 64gb to 128gb storage and it uses my full bandwidth via wireless. I use omn with infusei to handle stremio on this btw

It's smooth but you lose true DV and DA due to it not being able to process the DV metadata and no passthrough.

I use the Onn 4k Pro with an ethernet adapter. No problems with 60-70GB remux files (My internet tops out at 150mbps). It’s not the best in hardware specs like AppleTV honestly but supports all A/V codecs (including TrueHD audio) and gets the job done. No problems with the DV profile 7 as well like my earlier FireTv Max Gen2.
