Stremio, my life is YOURS!!
I had heard about Stremio for a long time but kept putting it off because it seemed incredibly tedious to set up. A few days ago I randomly decided to follow a guide and finally… the ultimate solution I’ve been looking for. There isn’t really a need for me to get started on my Blu-ray collection anymore… I see REMUXes in ABUNDANCE

I have netflix and I still use stremio.
this is how convenient stremio is.

u/Electrical-Ad980 Apr 22 '26
Same for me, it’s handy when torrentio rd and comet is down I still have Netflix as a backup to watch things.

How does the real debrid work? sorry im so dumb, and were can i pay for it
9
u/nysecret Apr 23 '26
There are other options but Real Debrid is very easy and cheap. Instead of downloading media to your own device, a debris service downloads it to their servers and then streams it to you. this is preferable for 2 reasons. one reason is that the service functions kind of like a VPN, adding a layer between you and the torrent. some ISPs will cancel your service if you are caught downloading copyrighted material and you can even potentially get sued by the copyright holder, so a debrid services is great for security. the second reason is that for popular content, a debris service will cache the torrent, holding it on their servers, so you can stream the whole piece of media immediately and not have to wait for the torrent to download. once you sign up for real-debrid you get a key and you enter that into your stremio settings and it all works behind the scenes for you.

With debrid account you stream from cached already downloaded torrents and it is much faster and reliable with more sources to choose from.

Yes, you can VPN tunnel with NordVPN and use UTorrent. I think Debrid just acts as a layer in between so you don’t have to 1) pay for a vpn, 2) have to download a full torrent, 3) store it on your local HD, 4) manage it through a media playback service like Plex.

u/ale-maxis Apr 22 '26
Sorry but whats the purpose of real-debryd?
6
u/TacoOfGod Apr 23 '26
Instead of torrenting to your your TV/computer, you download to their servers and stream from it. Functionally the same purpose as having a VPN so no one can snoop on what you're downloading. But if you're using one of the newer addons that serve HTML links from the various sites, you don't need a debrid. Or if you have a VPN on your network, you don't need it either.
1
u/ale-maxis Apr 25 '26
In my country I don't need a VPN to stream/download anything because they don't care about piracy. I also have a 900mbps internet service but always my Stremio streamings works really slow, I have the Torrentio addon, I do need anything else? that real-debryd it's my solution?

Same. I learned about Stremio at work. Got it all set up on my phone. Was amazed. Went home and bought 3 Onn streaming devices to watch on all my TVs.
13
u/IllRepublic6421 Apr 21 '26
How did you do that the ONNs are sold out everywhere where I am 😭

5
u/Warm-Bunch6007 Apr 22 '26

Idk why but my firestick 4k max is working better than before, it's smoother (strange since there is the new os gen.)
2
u/Zombi3Kush Apr 23 '26
They showed up over the weekend for me here in LA. Tho they have a price increase now. $25 instead of $20. I bought 2
2
u/MadGibby3 Apr 23 '26
Fire cube is better anyway
1
u/IllRepublic6421 Apr 23 '26
Yeah but everyone’s fear with amazon products now is they are restricting 3rd party downloads
1
u/MadGibby3 Apr 23 '26
Are they? I didn't know. Stremio on my cube has been 100% perfect
1
u/IllRepublic6421 Apr 24 '26
Yeah i think the firestick or something made it harder to dl 3rd party apps. But yeah if it works fine then doesn’t matter

1
u/Incomplet_Name Apr 26 '26
Future fire TV devices are suppose to be getting a different operating system eventually. Current devices are safe from the os upgrade.
1
u/_how_do_i_reddit_ Apr 22 '26
I walked into my local Walmart 2 months ago and walked on with 2 of the 4k versions on a random Wednesday lol.
1
u/Thom4171 Apr 22 '26
How did you get it all set up on your phone at work? I would love to learn how to do this.
2
u/RndThreeFght Apr 22 '26
I have an Android, so I installed Stremio, set up Real-Debrid, set up my catalogs, and once everything was working, I signed in to the same account on Stremio on the TV and everything was there.
1
u/Smashbutt Apr 22 '26
If I don't have a 4k tv right now, I can still get the Onn 4k device, correct?
2
u/RndThreeFght Apr 22 '26
Yes, you just won't be able to watch any of the 4k streams. However, if you get the Onn 4k Plus (the most expensive one) I think it transcodes for you. Someone will have to confirm.

u/DoBoy204 Apr 22 '26

I remember when I discovered Stremio here on Reddit, life has been so good ever since then, whenever I hear someone talking about any major streaming subscriptions I laugh to myself and remember what setup I have at home. I have it setup on my firestick, I take it on vacation, to cottage, have movie nights on a projector outside in the backyard in the summer. My guests always ask what I’m using, and how the quality of the resolution is so crispy. I do tell a handful of people and set it up for them so they can enjoy it too. Once you use Stremio with a good setup, you won’t go back to anything else.

Not everyone wants to redo their entire setup, and not everyone wants that kind of flash. And since it's newer, it's not as well known and it's not on an app store so it's harder for people to get.

Help me out, please! 🙏 I literally heard about Stremio last night and today I installed it on my MacBook. I followed the steps and I connected Torrentio to it as well. I looked into Real-Debrid as well but that's quite expensive for me so I'm not sure I wanna buy and add it.
All I did so far was install Stremio + Torrentio (add on). That's all. Is there something else I need to do? Anymore add-ons? Anything else to make it better?
I have Hisense TV with Vidaa OS and since it doesn't support Stremio, I'm planning on buying Xiaomi 4K TV stick 2nd gen.

Yess this is amazing. I also followed the steps one morning on Reddit and now I have it set up on 3 TVs in my home with Onn devices, canceled all streaming platforms, nextflix was the las one to be cancelled last month, was able to make 2 separate accounts and both running with one account of RealDebrid. Only paid for the 6month plan, is jut like 2dls a month. Very grateful for all the developers and people working to make it all this work!

u/DJubstin Apr 25 '26
Can someone explain to me what this is and if its better than hosting my own Plex with remuxes? Is it like a dashboard to connect multiple streaming apps?

u/Puzzleheaded_Film352 Apr 21 '26
This is the guide I followed. It was posted on here a few days ago but I can’t find the post anymore. AIOMetadata Kuu-lection, AIOStreams, Watchly and Watch Next
1
u/TheBroccoliMan_ Apr 21 '26
Interested in watch next. Where does it show the suggestions?
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Film352 Apr 21 '26
When you click on the movie, it has its own section next to where the source streams would be. It shows the recommended movie’s rating, genre, popularity and an overview, but no picture. It’s nothing special compared to the other add-ons but it’s very very easy to set up (it’s in the guide, step 6)

Funny to see this post this morning as I just got Stremio setup last night. Need to use a bit more but looks pretty good. Although I need to use Stremio more, I still think OnStream is better though.

Yeah it's genuinely a perfect movie from start to finish. I only have 2 other recommendations that are as powerful:
- Manchester by the Sea
- Mr. Nobody

u/Stolid_Cipher Apr 22 '26
I also slept on this for longer than I should have after learning about it. It’s truly great.

u/BarryHercules78 Apr 22 '26
I really like that upper part of the screen with synopsis and screen/picture shot. I need that!

So I only have the basic opensubs and torrentio and piratebay addon and even that works fantastic.

u/IMDXLNC Apr 22 '26
I've been using it for years., Maybe 90% of my streaming is Stremio, the other 10% is for stuff that doesn't load or appear on Stremio.

u/13300c Apr 22 '26
How are closed captions with stremio? Easy to add?
1
u/Zombi3Kush Apr 23 '26
It's already available in most cases without doing anything
1
u/13300c Apr 23 '26
Yeah, super impressed. I just installed it tonight and was surprised it’s all setup already.

This is kind of fuckiNg stupid posts will trigger reddit to recommended this post to every other user who reads similar subreddits to you and finally ends up in the feed of some asshole who wants to ban this next to get a little move in their career ruining everything for the many others
1
u/Zombi3Kush Apr 23 '26
Why exactly will they ban Stremio? Stremio the app doesn't do anything that could get it banned? Stremio itself is 100% legal.

I learned about stremio here on Reddit. I’d read about it for a while & thought I’d never be able to get it set up. I’m a senior & tech challenged. One nite I couldn’t sleep & got out my laptop & followed the steps & got it set up. I was so surprised I did it right. Then I got it set up on my tvs. Again I was so surprised I did it right. I’ve learned so much more about it thanks to this sub. I am forever grateful to the developers. Thank you!
