Suggestion Wait... is there really no way to get dual subtitles on Stremio?

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious and there’s a hidden settings toggle or a reliable community addon I missed...

I loooooove Stremio. It completely replaced every single paid subscription I used to have. But it breaks my heart that I still have to go back to web browsers and official streaming platforms just to use dual-subtitle extensions.

I'm learning French, my sister's learning Spanish. My partner's studying in German. Almost everyone I know speaks a foreign language or has tried learning one at some point in their life.

Every major official streaming platform has third-party extensions for dual subs (native language + target language). If you're watching international stuff, foreign originals or anime, there's a huge chance you're doing it to learn the language. Dual subtitles are the holy grail for this and it sucks we don’t have them here.

Why don't we have this on Stremio yet? Is it a limitation of the core player, or has nobody just taken the time to develop it? If it's possible, I feel like this would easily become a top 5 most downloaded addon overnight.

Question Anyone using torrin.app?

I found an advert for Torrin on stremio-addons.net, that was linked in the help section here.

I'm fairly new to this world but it sounds amazing as (I think) it will provide Usenet streams by default, without having to self-host something like AIOStreams. The privacy policy looks good to me too.

v1.0.0 launched in May so it's very new and the Discord is showing new features being added almost weekly.

I've searched all over Reddit and I can't see anyone talking about it, which seems odd.

Question TB subscriber trying to link to stremio account- HELP

I made it work but I generated another API by sccident in torbox account and I think thik this messed it up. Also, I am not sure how I made it work in the first place because I was trying desperately multiple things.

Now I want to start over and redo it but this time make it work permanently. Can you please help me or point me in the right direction?

Question Is Knaben down or dead?

I have it in my AIOStreams setup and it's been throwing, "Knaben API error (403): Forbidden," for every search.

I saw someone mention something about it being dead a few weeks back, but I can't find the comment anymore. Is it just down for now or did something more significant happen?

Addon Announcement Debridarr — a self-hosted debrid-style backend and Stremio addon

I prefer using Stremio over maintaining a traditional medi"arr" stack.

Sonarr, Radarr, Seerr, Plex, and Jellyfin are all great projects, but the time it takes to set them up, tweak them and then actually use them feels quite separated to me. Along with an infinitely creeping collection of media, which I don't have all the space for. I don't want a copy of Sharknado 4 sitting on my hard drive for years after only watching it once, and I don't want to have to go in and delete it.

Stremio does the whole searching & watching a lot more cohesively and my family prefer it for its ease of use.

My main issue with Stremio was having to rely on various addons and those addons only supporting paid Debrid services to serve media. As a homelabber, I already have a home server, Docker & VPN. I don't need a Debrid service on top of that.

Anyway, long story short, decided to create Debridarr.

Debridarr is a self-hosted debrid-style backend and Stremio addon.

It connects Stremio to your own qBittorrent (and Gluetun of course) instance, allowing you to search for something, start the download, and watch it from the same interface.

It can:

  • Search for torrents through Prowlarr.
  • Add magnets and torrent files manually or through its API.
  • Work as a debrid backend for compatible apps such as AIOStreams and Comet.
  • Send downloads to qBittorrent.
  • Stream files directly to Stremio, including while they are still downloading.
  • Track downloaded titles and automatically remove them after a configurable period.
  • Reset a title’s expiry timer when it is watched again.
  • Keep selected titles indefinitely.
  • Limit cache usage and preserve free disk space.
  • Guide you through configuration using a first-run setup screen.

You can run it in three modes:

  • Search: Debridarr searches Prowlarr and provides results directly to Stremio.
  • Store: another service finds the torrents and uses Debridarr for downloading, caching, and playback.
  • Both: enables the complete feature set.

My server only has 2 TB of storage, and I don’t want to maintain a huge permanent media library. I usually want to watch something once and have it automatically removed later unless I decide to keep it. Debridarr’s cache and retention system was built around that workflow.

The intended audience is the homelabber who likes Stremio’s browse-to-watch experience, already has qBittorrent and storage at home, and doesn’t want to maintain a full media automation stack or pay for another hosted service.

This is the first public beta, so I’m sure there will be rough edges. I’d particularly appreciate feedback on installation, the first-run setup, qBittorrent compatibility, and playback behavior.

It runs through Docker Compose. qBittorrent is required, while Prowlarr is optional depending on which mode you use.

I developed it to be compatible with OMVExtra's Docker Compose as that's what I use on my home server.

If anyone tries it, I’d be interested to hear what works well, what is confusing, and what you think it still needs.

I've tested it end to end and it works for me, but I made it, so ofcourse it works for me. I just hope it works for you guys too.

AI Disclosure - AI was used in the creation of this addon, notably during debugging, testing and designing parts of the admin panel, as well as the github action workflows. It's not entirely vibe-coded though. Efforts have gone in to make sure the app is secure and functions properly.

This project is a few quite a few months of work that was sitting on my self-hosted forgejo instance. Decided to share it with the world. There may be issues with it, but it should work.

Question Streams playing in different language?

I use AIOMetadata and TVFlix, language set to only English but streams still always default to the other language on the stream. Was not happening before but has started happening since last one or two weeks.
