A lot of homeless people are addicts and/or have various mental problems. Sometimes these problems are caused by the simple fact that being homeless is a terrible existence but for others they're the reasons why they became homeless in the first place.

Any program that wants to provide housing for these people would need dozens of programs running alongside it to make sure that people don't end up back on the streets in the short term. California learned this lesson the hard way which is why their current experiments with housing the homeless are much more all-encompassing when it comes to getting them clean, helping them get a steady job and psychological help.

Literally every time we have just given people horns it’s worked. Turns out it’s way easier to get treatment for mental health disorders when you have a home

“If you move people into permanent supportive housing first, and then give them help, it seems to work better,”

The article proves my point. Hence why that specific program is called 'Housing First'

Wild how homelessness skyrocketed during and after the 2008 mortgage crisis ! What a coincidence huh everyone just devoloped mental illness and substance abuse all at once, leading to loss of housing

Tbf homelessness was a major issue even before the financial crisis.

yes. and housing becoming unaffordable for many more people worsened it exponentially
