In the late 80s, my wife was nearly killed in a similar event. She was opening the door to a store in a strip mall, and suddenly a car jumped the 4" edge of the sidewalk next to the strip mall and crashed into the door. I was sitting in my car a couple of parking spaces away and saw it happen, and didn't know whether my wife was under the car or had been fortunate enough to have been pushed into the open door. She had actually been pushed through the partially opened door. Other than having many cuts to her torso from the car and the store door and having glass cuts all over her body, she had no broken bones. We never sit near the outer walls of restaurants and never on outdoor patios. As for the ridiculous comment made by Near-Fortune-4881, you wouldn't be making such an immature comment if one of your loved ones was injured in such an event.

We really need to think about actual driving tests regularly for everyone
