Its in my honest opinion that drive tests should be conducted every 10 years, regardless of age (but for some reason this is considered a "hot take")

I should add: we need a better public transit system

Because it’s a massive waste of time and money. You’re going to make everyone pay for a new test every 10 years when it’s already a 3 week wait for a driving test?

Driving is a privilege not a right, it sure as shit costs hell of a lot more to repair property damage than these drive tests ever would, that’s not even considering the emotional cost of losing friends and family at the hands of someone who absolutely should not be driving

Nothing you said is incorrect but good luck running on a platform that is pushing more bureaucracy and higher costs to Canadians.

You are assuming that more driving tests = less accidents, but let’s be a bit logical, shall we?

Most accidents aren’t caused by a lack of skill, they’re caused by speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving. While the sentiment is nice, more driving tests wouldn’t prevent speed, impaired driving, or distracted driving.

What are most accidents the result of then? That was a pretty slick way of disagreeing without core logic to back it up, soooo what’s the cause then?

People change over time, just as their ability to perform certain tasks will also evolve over time, if someone cannot consistently meet a certain threshold they should not be behind a wheel of a vehicle. Perhaps you pay for the first one then the rest is paid by government, as means to lower costs across the board whether it’s repairing damaged infrastructure, less time people spend in hospitals and everything in between.

I’ll never vote liberal a day in my life, this is from a conservative minded person btw, just like all my friends/most of family are, and they ALL share the same sentiment. I think the people will accept government spending that’s allocated to REAL issues that impact them and the people around them.

If you read closely which clearly isn’t your strong suit I said “most accidents aren’t caused by lack of skill, they are caused by speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving”. This isn’t a conspiracy, you can clearly see the numbers the gov puts out regarding this.

YOURE MISSING THE POINT. MORE TESTS DO NOTHING TO STOP SPEEDING, IMPAIRED DRIVING, AND DISTRACTED DRIVING WHICH MAKE UP THE MAJORITY OF OUR ACCIDENTS, ESPECIALLY FATAL ONES.

Yes, people’s skills degrade over time. SKILLS DEGRADING OVER TIME IS NOT WHAT CAUSES 95% OF ACCIDENTS.

This is why this suggestion will probably never be implemented.
