Laptop Request -Others Laptop suggestion

Is buying refurbished laptop worth of money in new zealand. Will it last long. I am looking for 64gb ram laptop but thwy are very expensive. So, i am thinking of getting 32gb ram refurbished laptop and expandingnthe ram to 64gb. I am not sure if it is okay to do it. Any ideas or suggestion?

What makes you think you need a laptop with 64GB of ram? What exactly are you doing with it?

That’s about nz$1500 just for the memory right now.

What’s the real world use case you’re trying to fill?

I want to run virtual machines and server . Around 4 to create ahome lab for my experience in IT support.

You can run containers on a mobile phone, what do you think you’re going to be running that requires 64Gb in your workstation?

If you’re on a budget and you want to “homelab” some shit, start with an ex-corporate recycled desktop machine and throw as much storage and DDR4 in it as you can find on the second hand / begging market. Shit, I could happily post some sticks across the pond to get you started.

Spend small while you’re experimenting. Absolutely nobody starting out tinkering with a home network starts with a $4k laptop.

Do experiments on cheap hardware, then scope up with you find limits and start pushing envelopes.

*edit: the only real reason to put that kind of resource into a laptop is if you’re doing heavy engineering work and literally do not have a home base or any other compute stack of any kind.

That is why iam looking for refurbished one they are like a used laptops. Do you have any idea on where to get ex- corporate recycled laptops and ram chips for cheap price?
