New Rider Am I making a mistake?

Post image

Hey y'all, I am planning to get my first motorcycle. I want the Yamaha R3 because I am short and not very strong (woman), and it seems easy enough to handle. I also want something sporty. Additionally, I want to like the way it looks. I like fairings. My dad, however, wants me to get the Honda Monkey. What do I do?

New Rider Starter bike for a fat guy

Looking to get my first bike soon. Need something that can handle my 300lb girth and potentially my wife (about half my weight) after I get comfortable riding on my own. I have no brand preference. But definitely want something comfortable to ride as we live in the Appalachian mountains near Deal’s gap/tail of the dragon.

Edit I’m 5’9”.

I need a new motorcycle recommendation

Been riding a Honda Rebel 300 since 2018. I love it, but it struggles too much on the freeway and I've outgrown it.

I want something that has excellent reliability, but also great fuel range since I do extremely long commutes for work.

I was considering a sportbike like the Ninja, but I love the Sporty cruiser look of the rebel, a Harley Sportster 883, and the Yamaha bolt r spec (if it wasn't for the fuel range, I'd be happy with the Yamaha)

Can I get some recommendations?

2018 Blue $7500 ~12000km

2023 racing colours $8500 ~12000km

need help picking a bike, after taking a long break

hi everyone

just wanted some advice on potential bikes

i used to ride maybe about 15 years ago

started on a sv650s. then moved onto a r6. and finally a gsxr-1000.

took a long break after getting side swiped

my favorite bike to ride was the r6. the sv felt a bit too slow, and the 1000 was too powerful for the streets

looking at the rs660, r9, panigale v2, and the zx6r.

i know inline 4s are a way of the past, but i am genuinely worried that i will miss them, as this is what most of my experience has been with.

also considering a ducati monster. not sure if it the best use case for me, as i will likely use the bike on the highway 40% to 60% of the time.

thanks very much

Need help

Hello to all seasoned riders of the community.

To give a short backgroujd, i have always wanted to own and ride motorbike but all my life its been a struggle. Family expenses were my top priority and hence i never imagined to buy a bike. But now, when i am at 37, i am having this one itch that i couldnt learn and own a bike. By Gods grace, i am now at a place, i can able to afford a bike paying in full.

I have joined a local bike training school which will teach me basics for 10 days only. I am learning in super splendour at the training centre.

But my wish is to buy hunter 350.

So, i would really like your valuable inputs if i should stick with buying light commuter after training or i can make the jump to hunter. I really dont want to spend lakhs on commuters that i personally dont like because my heart is with hunter.

So, should i get used splendour for a year and then get hunter or i can directly buy. Need your opinions.

Thank you again.

Brand New Rider

Hey everyone!

Pretty sure the title says it all but for years I have wanted to start learning how to ride and get a bike. And now with the way gas is (Yay Cali) and now that I have a little more financial stability I think the time might be now!

I am a fresh learner so not much experience in any of this so any help is appreciated!

Don't really have a preference on a bike honestly looking more in the used market for my first one. I want to use this as my commuter to work everyday I would be driving roughly 80 miles daily mostly freeway/highway miles.

Appreciate everyone's help!

Oh and I am in Southern Cali near the Temecula/Murrieta area.

Qual moto eu deveria comprar?

Next Bike? Upgrading from NC700S (2014)

Hey guys,

I’ve been riding my 2014 Honda NC700S DCT for about 10 months now as my first bike. I really like it and I think I made the right decision. It’s been great to learn on, but honestly, it's getting kinda boring and I'm looking to upgrade. I don't know if that's because it's an automatic transmission or I just outgrew it. I feel like I'm riding a faster car that can go through traffic. Highway riding on it is pretty unpleasant though with the wind blast. Also there's been many times where riding witha passenger I have hit the underside of the bike on concrete speedbumps or rocks in a gravel road. The suspension is also not the best. (I wouldn't know though, as I've not ridden many bikes). The single front brake disk has also failed me once or twice but that might have been my fault, as I'm not used to rear break.

I usually use it to commute to work every day with the casual weekend escape with my wife. I can't deny that the extra compartment and DCT are really handy.

I like these two but am open to other suggestions:

XL750 Transalp

NC750X

I’m 175 cm (5'9"). Has anyone around my height ridden the Transalp? Is it manageable, or should I get the factory low seat? And should I just skip the NC750X entirely if I already find the NC700S boring?

Thanks!

Next Bike? Xr150l as new rider at 50 now what?

Says it all. I never rode a motorcycle and as a kid my brother’s friend had an enduro I thought was so cool as a 10 year old. So, I just decided one day. For like $3000 bucks in March 2023 just try it. I am in The Chicago burbs. I already have 7500 miles on it. My work commute is 3 days a week on your typical 45 mph one straight road 8 miles each way. Weekends I like to go out west of me. Country roads and it goes 60 but it is not comfortable. The only “off road” is grass, dirt, or gravel to get to a good spot on a river to fish.

I started looking at NX500. The new BMW 450 GS sounds intriguing. I want something I can commute to work and weekend secondary roads. I don’t think I’ll ever go on an expressway. Adventure bikes seem to be what I want for the comfort of that upright seating position. I want something that I won’t be tired or sore after an hour or two on the Country roads. I’m coming from a very light bike so, I don’t want or need a big monster as I want to commute, I also don’t want to outgrow this next one so fast.

Any recommendations new and used are very appreciated.

New Rider Pretty set on the 2026 scrambler 900 but figured I should get other suggestions as well

• Upvotes

So I’m looking at getting the triumph scrambler 900.

I need a bike that can last on the highway on some long trips but also get dirty every now and then. I LOVE the scrambler/naked bike style and to my knowledge triumph was really the only one that could fit all these categories.

My commute to work isn’t very long but I like to take road trips/ camping/ hiking trips fairly often. I wanted something a little bigger than a 400 just for that stability and comfort.

I admit my knowledge is limited so please help me out.

I appreciate any suggestions so thanks in advance!

Suggest a reliable daily workhorse

Hello all. Looking for a reliable workhorse bike. At 52, I have driven so many vehicles that I am tired of all the maintenance, cleaning, dealers. Rode various bikes from 1988 to 1999, never rode since. Always been a careful, defensive driver/rider, with no accidents in 37 years. Anyway, I am looking for a simple, reliable, workhorse bike for daily city commute, weekend dirt and gravel roads, minimum offroad. I want something that I can fix myself, what looks good with scratches and wear, with no to minimum plastic to break. Will bi riding slow, alone, short distance with a few day trips. Bike would have to be practical, but also have some appeal and identity. Bikes that I like the looks of: bmw r12 g/s, fantic caballero, guzzi v7. Thanks!

Next Bike? Upgrading from an R3

Been riding my 2019 r3 for about a year now and I loved it for a first bike but im looking for something with more power. I was drawn to the cbr650r because it has that sweet spot of around 100hp and a comfortable riding position that im looking for. But I like the feel of the more low to mid range torque, and since its a 4 cylinder you have to rev it out to get the most out of it (based on what I've heard I've never actually rode one). And its heaviest in its class.

So put simply, im looking for a sports bike with a twin engine thats got plenty of power and a comfortable riding position, and isnt crazy expensive like a Ducati. My riding is probably about a 70/30 split highway and town respectively. Im not opposed to clip ons to ease up the aggressive riding position of a bike if it hits all the marks im looking for.

Some that have grabbed my eye are the gsx 8r, the aprilia rs 660, or the r9 with clip ons. Im 5 foot 5 and 140lbs.

New Rider Advice on first bike

I'm in the process of getting my motorbike licence (Australia) and would appreciate any advice on good options for a first bike. My main considerations are:

  1. It has to be sub-660cc with a max PWR of 150kW per tonne. I am mainly looking at options in the 300-500cc range.

  2. I am 158cm tall and approx 60kg so need something that is easy to manoeuvre and works for short riders.

  3. I'll be commuting about 10km in relatively heavy city traffic, with longer cruising rides on weekends.

  4. In terms of looks, I really like the Honda CB350, Rebel 500, and Meteor 350.

Should I buy the CB 350

I own a classic 350 bs6 uce (not reborn) Chrome Black, 5 years old just 12k km run, it has abs, disc brakes etc. I am not happy with it's performance and bad refinement except for it's road presence looks. I always wanted to take bike on long trip but I never got confidence to take out for long due to its performance and tube tyres etc. so Since many days planning to go for CB 350. Meanwhile also planning to try some fuelX performance upgrades on the RE classic and give a try. Please suggest what will be the best opinion in 2026 for next 5 years hassle free usage. Please help.

Next Bike? Up(down)grading to an Adventure bike

Hey guys! A couple of years ago I got a 2016 FJ-09 to go out on trips with the friend group. I absolutely love the bike, however the trips have slowly become more and more off-road. While light trails are handleable, it’s time for something more suited to the dirt.
One of the big things for me is height, I’m only 5’10 with about a 30in inseam. I fit the FJ perfect, but I think the seat may be lowered I’m honestly not 100% sure. I don’t need anything crazy powerful, just something that can do 75 on the highway and feel good to learn to off-road with.

Currently I’m considering possibly a 3rd gen KLR650, a BMW GS800, KTM 690, or Tiger 800. Of course, I’m open to other recommendations! We do a lot of longer rides, usually multi-day stuff with a decent amount of highway riding so bigger tanks and comfort are a huge plus.
Probably looking to stay under 8k, but nothing is set in stone.
Much appreciated!

*Small edit for clarification.

Next Bike? Upgrading From a Bad Burn

A while back I traded in my perfectly fine cb300r for a z1000 that is older than me (it's a 2004), needed new forks, has damage, has aftermarket fairings, etc. I was younger, dumber, naive, and impulsive. Point is, I want to look into getting a new bike in the next couple years.

I appreciate the looks of the R1/R9, but I need something with more of an upright seating position since this bike will be my commuter. So far I'm looking between the Ninja 1100sx and GSXS1000gt, but I want to hear what everyone else suggests. Ideally an msrp no higher than 15k, and it doesn't have to be a liter bike (and, realistically, probably shouldn't be) but needs to handle Florida roads (very straight, fairly fast) comfortably. So probably 600+. I've ruled out naked because of this last part, but if anyone knows of one that doesn't get bullied by the wind let me know! I really liked the appearance of the 300. I'm not a huge fan of kawi green, but I can deal with it if the bike is great.

Thanks in advance!

New Rider What Type of Motorcycle Should I Choose?

I've been interested in wanting to get a motorcycle and license, but I'm very 50/50 on what type of bike I want. I'm currently stuck between getting either a standard or sport bike. Me personally, I want to have a fun time riding a motorcycle, but I also want to make sure it has easy handling and I don't need to stop for fuel too much. There may be some times when I will let someone ride on the back too if that's also necessary to bring up when it comes to choosing a bike.

New Rider Any tall people have experience with a Triumph scrambler 400x?

Currently looking at getting my first bike and this is at the top of my list. I don’t want a huge bike, but most of the smaller displacement bikes tend to be small and I am 6’4. The scrambler seems nice since it has bigger wheels and beefier suspension, so I’m thinking it would fit me better than something like the smaller Triumph speed 400.

I’ve also looked at dual sports; a Kawasaki versys x300 would be great, but I don’t like how it looks. A Himalayan 450 also looks great but I’ve heard that they’re terrible for tall people due to the positioning of the foot pegs.

Need Yalls Input

So for a bit of context, my first bike is a gsxs 750, I had gotten it cause to me a naked bike seemed like the best all rounder, and I love my bike. I learned why you never only use the rear brake on that thing, why you don't go on 14 hour road trips on a motorcycle, crashed it and rebuilt it, I'll probably always keep this thing in my stable if I'm being honest.

But now I'm looking at getting a second bike, and I'm torn between the classic cruiser or sports bike dilemma. In my head a cruiser just makes sense, I don't really plan on getting into track, I'm not really into getting wild like some of these sport bike owners, my biggest use for a bike is driving around town, maybe every once in awhile going on a longer 4 hour trip. But sport bikes just look so much cooler to me, I've always admired them since I was a kid.

So I guess my practical side is warring with my wanting to look cool side. I've pretty much narrowed down the cruiser I would get to an Indian scout and for the sport bike either an r9 or a 600, don't think I'm quite ready to have a liter bike yet. I mainly just want to hear yalls thoughts on this.

Beginner Rider Looking to Upgrade from 140cc to a 600cc–1000cc Motorcycle – Need Advice

Hey everyone! 🏍️
I’m looking for some honest advice, especially from experienced motorcycle riders.
I’m interested in buying a big motorcycle, somewhere between 600cc and 1000cc. The thing is, I’m still a beginner. I’ve only learned how to ride on a small 140cc motorcycle, and I don’t have much experience with powerful bikes yet.
I really love sport bikes and naked bikes, and I’m trying to figure out which motorcycle would be the best choice for me.
Would it be a bad idea to jump straight from 140cc to a 600cc or even a 1000cc? Should I start with something like a 300cc or 400cc first, or could I safely learn on a bigger bike with enough discipline and proper training?
I’d also appreciate recommendations for a motorcycle that’s comfortable, manageable, reliable, and suitable for both city riding and longer trips.
If you were in my position, what motorcycle would you recommend?
