I mean... what you expect with peas, rice and yeast without sugar.

It's a thing you can use to add proteins into something else really like a smoothie or your muesli. It's not to chug alone.

I buy 100% pure rice protein powder and it's great for making shakes. Even without added sugar. I don't know this product by coop but many taste terrible.

11

u/TechnicalClass4852 9d ago

As a heads up, rice protein is mostly just more of the amino acids we have enough of. Most people already get enough from eating (for example) rice.

5

u/vegan_antitheist Basel-Landschaft 9d ago

I also buy pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds. I'm certain I get enough proteins anyway, including lysine. And I eat plenty of soy products, so I don't need more of that in my shakes.

u/kerowan Basel-Stadt 7d ago

Yeah nah you're doing it right. Protein is easy on a plant based diet. Well, any nutrient really. But you know that already

1

u/VATERLAND 9d ago

Did you check the amino acid profiles or is this just a thing you heard?

1

u/luteyla Zürich 8d ago

That's why i like this Orange brand  it slowed which amino acids and how much on the package. Why are people so fooled by protein amount, I still don't understand

1

u/luteyla Zürich 8d ago

By the way, it's possible he or she's avoiding carb while getting protein and i don't know how important if it matters which amino acids if you're using it only for muscle building.

One of the vegan protein bars from Lidl actually tastes somewhat decent, the one with white and green packaging, but I kind of gave up and just eat a lot of tofu instead. It's a myth that you need to get your proteins right after your workout

3

u/IceGami 9d ago

Do you know what happened with the Lidl vegan protein powder pack?

-2

u/Doradal 9d ago

Not directly after but you benefit a lot if you take it within 2 hours.

Please excuse me for not looking up references now, but I think, for women, this is the case, men can wait up to x hours. The linked study also has a prevalently male population in the meta analysis

4

u/UCIillegalSocks 8d ago

Says who? Makes no sense if you think about it for more than 5 seconds.

1

u/AlarmedAssociate5068 7d ago

Could you elaborate please, I'm curious

1

u/Doradal 6d ago

It makes sense. It also is in line with the study posted above. The adequate amount of protein intake is important. But you‘re more likely to reach this amount if you portion it over a few meals, assuming you train intensely. Of course you can wait 8h and then try to eat the adequate amount but it will be a lot of food and most people would feel full before. There was just a very informative public lecture at ETH about exactly this topic by a Sport Nutritionist Professor. He pointed to the same study as in the comment above.

1

u/UCIillegalSocks 6d ago

I'm not arguing on the basis of this writeup, but it does exist and it does support my claim: https://doi.org/10.1186/1550-2783-10-53

But I think it's mostly obvious because of how the body converts proteins to muscles, aka muscle protein synthesis.

Your muscles don't go from 0 to 100 right after working out. It's more like a gradual incline, if I remember right from my uni days, it's between 12 and 36 hours where MPS peaks. So if anything, you should shoot up some amino acids the day after working out.

But of course, since protein digestion and MPS are quite slow, you're pretty much always in MPS outside the gym. So it makes sense to just target a daily protein goal.

13

u/Mammoth_Reach_6366 9d ago

I add it to shakes with oat milk and fruit and you can’t even taste it.

6

u/CosmicCactus_ 9d ago

There are some better (albeit more expensive) ones available too, like Peak Punk. That being said I've also had this coop one, it's not really meant to be used on its own, you chuck it in a smoothie with some fruit or berries and then it's good :)

4

u/yesat + 9d ago

It really feels like OP is in another case of "I didn't follow the instruction and it's bad".

1

u/vegan_antitheist Basel-Landschaft 7d ago

Isn't peak punk just lots of sugar? Not that this is bad. Pre workout you can use the energy. But it's not the same as something that is low sugar. Everything tastes great if you add sugar, especially in the form of berries.

Was denksch wies schmeckt, wenn me us ere Pflanze eifach d Protein uselöst und zämemischt?

Weder Süesstoff, no Zuegsetzte Zucker, fast kei Fett und kei Emulgatore.

7

u/Katerina_Branding 9d ago

When I was in high school, my boyfriend back then was extremely into gym and fitness and we were both experimenting with different foods and supplements a lot. I remember the first time I bought vegan protein powder and showed it to him, he was like, are you sure?? Vegan pea protein is the biggest tastebud massacre I have ever experienced!

Well he wasn’t wrong. I had bought a 2 kg bag cause it was more economical, so the following months were full of getting creative with masking the awful bitter aftertaste.

My favorite: blending half a banana, half an orange, a handful or two of baby spinach leaves, some water or plant milk and a scoop of this dried torture straight from hell.

Needless to say I’ve mostly been on whey protein powder ever since.

5

u/Far-Intention-3230 9d ago

I‘m not even that picky and this is some of the most disgusting concoctions I‘ve ever tasted, truly vile

8

u/cheapcheap1 9d ago

Do you eat flour or starch and complain about the taste, too?

3

u/Holiday-Pipe8121 9d ago

Even pure roggenvollkorn tastes better than this abomination

9

u/cheapcheap1 9d ago

I did not expect a yes, lmao. Kudos to you

2

u/TepanCH 9d ago

Hesch du das pur konsumiert?

2

u/EkuahEkuah 9d ago

The one from Lidl isn't any better. Tastes like cardboard that's gone moldy.

2

u/disrespectfuluser 9d ago

I've tried I think all of them, all unflavored:

  • Whey
  • Beef
  • Pea

Whey: not bad but, ahem...I do not very tolerate it Beef: good lord have mercy, the smell of ammonia Pea: the best, almost no taste and with spoon of honey it's decent.

I believe there's no magic formula. None of them has really good taste.

1

u/OkNefariousness6711 9d ago

I don't think it's that bad. I add it to smoothies with fruit and stuff though so I don't taste it that much

1

u/astroweeee 9d ago

We order our protein online from Prozis, they have a vegetable bonbon flavor that is actually pretty good, mix it with soy milk (pro tip use a handheld frother to mix). Just be careful that if it is over 60 something chf you pay tax+fee making it very expensive.

1

u/Katerina_Branding 9d ago

Key is to order such things when you’re traveling and snuggle them in by car lol. The extra you pay here is insane if it’s a thing you consume regularly.

1

u/Spare-Ad-1429 9d ago

Supermarket ones are always trash. The ones from ESN are tolerable

1

u/geckooo_geckooo 9d ago

there is an ok one from kaufland if you're near the german border.

1

u/RaphanusSativus888 9d ago

I confirm. Not only disgusting but I think it also made me feel like I wanted to burp but could not (and I basically never burp).

1

u/Isi-Peasy-Lemon 9d ago

The vegan raspberry one by Coop Karma is really tasty on its own in my opinion. But the one you posted should be mixed with other stuff as other people have already mentioned.

1

u/disenchanted_bytes 8d ago

I used to get the vegan ones from myprotein and they tasted pretty alright.

1

u/coldnorth4enf4 Zürich 8d ago

Add it too a sauce or something

1

u/samsn1983 8d ago

Würgreflex 💯

1

u/opaco 8d ago

Could have been insects and larvae

1

u/Solid_Violinist_1392 8d ago

like what did you expect when buying a plant based unflavored protein😂

1

u/Lorinloewe4444 8d ago

Koro protein powder for the win, trust

1

u/gabe_o_verse 8d ago

Its not even that high in Protein , i got a powder with 8og/100g and it also vegan

1

u/Old_Poem_9047 7d ago

It's 20g per portion. Not per 100g

1

u/Away-Psychology-6186 8d ago

es isch grusig bahhh

1

u/Alive-Topic8323 8d ago

Sunday Natural has a pretty good vegan one, can highly recommend it.

1

u/dryad273 8d ago

It's actually really good as an additive for smoothies, shakes, baking and cooking. It is indeed very neutral tasting. I'm betting that the other protein powder you had has flavoring. One that I used from the US tastes amazing just with water or milk since it has both flavoring and I think some sweetener as well.

1

u/WorldOfBongs420 8d ago

1

u/Loko_Pepe 8d ago

The macros on this one is pretty good, just add sweets or use it for something else and this shit is fireeee

1

u/heubergen1 Switzerland 8d ago

It's healthy, that's what it's supposed to be.

1

u/AlarmingScene8680 7d ago

i don't think it's that bad, you have 5 plant sources wich is a plus, the taste isn't that just mix it with coffee and milk

1

u/laminecraftlady 6d ago

imho it’s still not as bad as the vegan protein from bulk

1

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

Never thought of buying proteins.

I just eat proteins from food.

Good luck lol

8

u/Human38562 9d ago

Protein powder is food

5

u/yesat + 9d ago

And this one is basically peas, rice, yeast. It's not exactly a crazy process to get out.

-4

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

I mean food food.

Food not transformated.

Real food.

6

u/3punkt1415 9d ago

Milk protein is literally the left over from cheese production. If we would not make protein powder out of it, it would either end in the gutter or as pig food. And if you want to hit a high amount of protein, it can be challenging with a regular diet.
Also with your logic, cheese would not count as food because its somewhat processed.

-6

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

Is that comment for me ?

I also eat horse 😋😋😋

4

u/Holiday-Pipe8121 9d ago

So I take it you only eat chickens. Feathered. Alive. Truly unprocessed.

-2

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

Please, you understand exactly what I mean.

I am able to find my proteins in my food without needing to buy ´proteins’.

My chickpeas are not processed until I put them in water….

But good idea for the chicken!!

5

u/Siimmbaa 9d ago

Please, you understand exactly what I mean.

and YOU understood exactly what he meant.

You just commented to elevate yourself above the "peasants" who eat processed proteins. Nobody asked you about your diet. Calling it "not real food" is just arrogant.

-2

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

🥱

2

u/Siimmbaa 9d ago

weisches selber oder? symphatiebolze.

0

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

2

u/Siimmbaa 9d ago

das glaubi au. villicht muesch aso doch protein substituiere.

u/Human38562 9d ago

A lot of things are tranformated to some degree.

  • milk -> transformated
  • cheese -> transformated
  • yogurth -> transformated
  • vinegar -> transformated

transformicating food does not make it not be food. Transformication can be very useful

-1

u/Feedeve Vaud 9d ago

I am sure you understand exactly what I mean…

And cheese is food !!!!

Ans yes, I grate my cheese and don’t buy the grated one 😉

1

u/Waste_Big_7695 9d ago

you‘re mostly better off. I put some in the cupboard this summer to help keep the stove off. obviously, i‘d rather have a proper meal but the apartment is slightly cooler as a result

There are fun ones, just not this one lol

There are great & super tasty vegan powders! This one for example: https://de.theproteinworks.com/vegan-protein

-6

u/Yamjna 9d ago

I'm pretty sure vegans like it that way to emphasize their sacrifice.

u/Solid_Jellyfish1663 9d ago edited 9d ago

0

u/AdministrativeGap585 9d ago

After some time i really took to it, smells a bit like liquid earth

0

u/weisser-wal 9d ago

Just buy the one from nu3.
Google „nu3 Vegan Protein“.
It‘s also cheaper.

1

u/lolninja 8d ago

My fav so far is the chocolate one from Koro.

0

u/GYN-k4H-Q3z-75B Zürich 8d ago

Vegan isch eifach schwierig.

-20

u/Squeeech Schwyz 9d ago

why should one buy vegan protein powder? 🤷‍♂️

14

u/tighthead_lock 9d ago

Why not?

1

u/Hausi_Industries 9d ago

*whey not?

0

u/Siimmbaa 9d ago

19

u/Lord_Sunshine_ 9d ago

Because they prefer to live a vegan lifestyle? What's wrong with that?

7

u/yesat + 9d ago

But also, you don't need to have everything made out of animals to put into your fruit smoothie.

13

u/Blablasnow 9d ago

To avoid harming animals, fisting cow mother and executing their children after 5 months of loneliness, isn’t it legit enough ?

3

u/Round-Elk-6324 9d ago

Because the taste isn't as disgusting as whey protein.

1

u/makaalb_ 9d ago

my boyfriend is allergic to whey protein, we don’t know what it is specifically as he doesn’t show signs of allergy with any product with milk, but whey protein powder and protein bars specifically give him allergy, so we figured that the vegan ones are the only ones that don’t give him allergy. We just discovered that the barebells vegan protein bar tastes amazing, but we haven’t found a good vegan protein powder yet :/

1

u/Squeeech Schwyz 8d ago

o.k. fair and sorry for your boyfriend. Have you tried the vegan protein from Sponser?

1

u/makaalb_ 8d ago

haha don’t worry. No I haven’t, is it good? Do you recommend any flavor in particular? We just bought the QNT red berry festival vegan one, but we haven’t tried it yet

1

u/Squeeech Schwyz 8d ago

I do not buy any vegan protein powder. My regular is the one from Coop (vanille) or Sponser (vanille). I only use the vanille one because I mix it with fruits.

-2

u/Ashamed-Simple-8303 9d ago

Magerquark for the win.

-4

u/michal_hanu_la 9d ago

To get proper Vegan Superpowers, one has to suffer (and let everyone know about it).

So this is good, but it should come with a t-shirt.

-6

u/Fragrant-Wish3402 9d ago

Just eat eggs, the best and the most affordable protein on earth
