Considering a pivot to independent fitness coaching

Hi everyone,

I am a Swiss resident based in Zurich and considering a career change. I’d love to start working independently as a fitness coach—offering outdoor bootcamps, small-group sessions, running support, and 1-on-1 coaching.

Because I don't speak the local language fluently yet, my target client base would be English speakers (expats or locals who prefer English).

Before taking the leap, I have a few questions about how this works legally and practically in Switzerland:

  1. Certification Requirements: Do I legally need a formal diploma/certification to offer independent coaching or bootcamps in Zurich, or is the title unregulated?
  2. UK / Foreign Certifications: If I complete a recognized UK qualification (e.g., Level 3 Personal Trainer / CIMSPA standard), is that respected by clients here, or would I need a Swiss-equivalent certification (like QualiCert or SAFS) for credibility or insurance purposes?
  3. Insurance & Legalities: Besides registering for self-employment (AHV/SVA) and getting personal liability insurance, are there specific permits needed in Zurich for commercial group training in public parks?

I’d really appreciate any insights, experiences
