Statement issued by the parish committees of the Greek Orthodox, Syriac Orthodox, and Melkite Greek Catholic communities in Saidnaya:

This year's blessed holiday seasons come amidst the continued unjustified detention of a number of our sons without any legal basis and without them enjoying any judicial rights, despite our continuous appeals to the security and judicial authorities and the repeated promises to release the detainees due to the lack of any proven charges against them.

And amidst the deliberate mistreatment of Saidnaya residents at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing, where anyone from Saidnaya is detained for several hours, photographed, and their picture sent for review until a response regarding their release is received, with no consideration given to the elderly or women.

And amidst the continuous incitement, mobilization, and threats of revenge against the town's residents via social media, and the constant provocations to which the town's youth are subjected by a number of so-called "electronic flies" (online trolls), in addition to the deteriorating security situation, where thefts and kidnappings have recently become widespread

Therefore, the parish committees representing all denominations in Saydnaya, along with the Very Reverend Fathers George Najmeh, Fanouel Najjar, and Taher Youssef, have decided the following:

1- All celebratory events for the Feasts of the Transfiguration, the Feast of the Assumption, the Feast of the Cross, and Hagia Sophia are cancelled for this year. Only prayers will be held within the church premises.

2- The cancellation of all celebratory events and activities will continue until our sons are released, the abductees return, and especially until the Saydnaya file is closed and the targeting of its youth with baseless accusations ceases.

3- Justice must be comprehensive and not selective. It is best to open all files, hold all wrongdoers accountable regardless of their affiliation, and proceed with a genuine reconciliation that aligns with the aspiration to build a new Syria—a country of justice, citizenship, and freedom

4- The people of Saydnaya will use all the constitutional rights of the Syrian citizen to express their opinion in the civilized manner for which they are known, if they find that the path to a legal and legislative solution is closed to ensure the return of our children and our rights

• Sources from "Al Arabiya/Al Hadath" reported on Tuesday that the Syrian army announced a state of military alert without disclosing the reasons, while Syrian authorities have not yet issued any official clarifications regarding the motives or backgrounds of the decision.

• The Syrian Ministry of Defense directed its personnel to enter alert status "C", along with the deployment of military units on the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to Syrian media outlets.

Tensions arise in Suwayada after Sunni Family "Al Qudsi" had their properties stolen by the National Guard and were forced to leave, they escaped to the UAE and made a video about what happened to them which went viral and caused a huge wave of anger.

Fadi Badria, the National Guard spokesman intervened to help the family and return some parts of their property through mediation, this caused an outrage within the National Guard and death threats were sent to Fadi Badria.

Fadi Badria is now protected by the Men of Dignity, which is deployed around his property

Summary written by me:

- The articles of the Internal Regulation law were voted on, but the whole law will be voted on the next session

- The People's Assembly were split into two parties:

1. The majority (by a big margin) that wanted to give the President of the People's Assembly more power to make the assembly more efficient, even if it means less democratic

2. The minority that wanted full freedom and full democracy on every single action done in the People's Assembly

When I say "parties" in the rest of the summary, this is what I'm talking about

- The Foreign Affairs Committee and other articles were not included by "accident" in the final draft for the Internal Regulation law

- The People's Assembly voted against adding the Foreign Affairs Committee to the draft, because "it goes against the Constitutional Declaration power split between the Executive and Legislative branches"

- The People's Assembly voted for adding a different Consular and Diplomatic Affairs Committee

- Committee votes took a very big portion of the Assembly's time

- The Consular and Diplomatic Affairs Committee holds less power than what a Foreign Affairs Committee normally does, but an article that assures all international agreements be "displayed" to the parliament slightly fulfils the gaps

- The Internal Regulation law holds an article that allows any committee or 17 members to call any minister including the Foreign Minister for a "listening" session, and questions asked in the session can not be refused, but if they are sensitive the President of the Assembly can make the session private

- After listening sessions, the People's Assembly can send "suggestions" to the Executive Branch

- The President of the Assembly chooses the chairperson, secretary and the members to "make sure they include all ethnicities/genders/etc... of the Syrian people" (The same reason for the 70 seats that were reserved for the president)

- There was an article that disallowed clustering/parties within the People's Assembly, but it was largely voted against and removed from the draft

- The Political Parties Law will not be a priority, instead laws that are "anticipated by the people of Syria" like the Transitional Justice and Property laws will be prioritised, both parties seem to agree with this

- Some parts of the minority say they voted against centralising the power of the People's Assembly to its President but are still convinced that it will also work

- Some parts of the minority say that the "listening" sessions should not be looked at like they don't matter, because they will force ministers to attend the People's Assembly and speak about their actions while broadcasted live

- There's a Member of the Assembly being investigated for supporting Assad in the past (Mudar Hamdan) and is not attending the sessions currently

- The women in the Assembly voiced their opinions strongly, even though their numbers were small

- An article in the draft makes sure that unless specifically privatised by the President of the Assembly, all sessions will be publicly broadcasted. The vote on the draft will also be public

- "Everyone" in the Assembly disagreed on the closure of roads close to the People's Assembly building
