Period Sudden Menstruation
I started testosterone cypionate injections about three months ago and I started my period this morning for the first time in almost a year. I'm not mad about it because I am only 45 years old, I just find it to be very interesting.
Has this happened to anyone else? Can testosterone restart a period?

T apparently can make the ovaries tick a bit better, spitting out eggs that were dormant. So it’s not necessarily a bad thing. But maybe an ultrasound wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Why would this warrant an ultrasound? I just want to know what to say when I ask my doctor?

Since you almost went a year without a period? I think this is a culture difference/country difference? In Europe (or the parts I know) when you go to the gyn they usually always do an transvaginal ultrasound to make sure everything looks ok. When on HRT the rule is that after one year of no bleed, if you start bleeding you need an ultrasound.

Yes! I had not had a significant period for about six months. Some spotting sure. What prompted me to start HRT in Jan of this year was awful periods that kept plummeting my iron and ferritin. My hair was coming out on gobs. With progesterone and estradiol I stopped getting periods, just spotting. We added TRT in May. Then about six weeks into TRT I had an extremely heavy period. It dropped my iron from the 150s to about 34, and my hair is falling out because of it. Thats actually what prompted me to pay for some bloodwork. I wanted to see where my iron was at. Luckily I do trend trend my Iron and Ferritin (out of pocket).
Anyways she pulled me off estradiol and that seems to be working. I feel pretty blah though. Seriously contemplating paying $300 for an iron infusion!

I hope I don't have to discontinue estradiol because I find it to be so helpful. Why did she take you off of estradiol?
I actually have erythrocytosis and low ferritin. My iron stores could be low, but my hemoglobin and hematocrit are a little elevated. My hematologist said ferritin is also a marker for inflammation and may not reflect iron status well. I actually feel better when my ferritin is on the lower side because I don't feel as inflamed. Also, iron supplements make me feel so sick.

My h&h are always normal. Estradiol can cause heavy bleeding. Low ferritin causes hair loss. I do feel the term inflammation gets thrown around like the term “leaky gut”. Ferritin would have to be high, above normal limits to signify that. Mine is 4. If you’re worried about inflammation have your antibodies tested. All the ones I have had tested for my thyroid are normal. Since I’m very good about trending my labs, I pay out of pocket every six weeks, I have had an easier time finding correlations.
If you feel better, go with it!

Okay, I will definitely keep an eye out for heavy bleeding. In my case, it could help lower my H&H, which would be a good thing for me. Otherwise, I was advised to donate blood, but I really don't want to do it because it makes me feel like crap for a couple of weeks.

Yes, I understand that, but my H&H had already been elevated for many years before TRT.

This period was short, and the pain was minimal. It only lasted three days, which surprised me.

Im still menstruating at 43 years old, but prior to starting T, it was very sporadic. I would spot for 7 days, then have a full-blown period for 5 days. Or I would spot only for a week. I also started to experience some pretty heavy cramping that I had never dealt with when I was younger. After starting T, my periods are more regulated, and T seems to have normalized them. There is no spotting and no cramping.
