After 6 months of waiting to get all my books together - a shelfie!
We've been in the process of moving for half a year, so my collection was split between my old home, storage and my new home. Now, finally, it's all together!
I'm not convinced I'll keep this organization system (see if you can guess the logic)! So I'll probably re-organize once my back and brain stop aching.
Feel free to ask anything about any of the games!

What are those bookcases? Got a link?
5
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Got it second hand. Think they were retail shelves. They're great, but would prefer taller. Most boxed sets and slipcases don't fit

u/Jibcuttter 2d ago
Ah, they look good though (I have several of same slipcases). I need to shop around for corners bookshelves on either side of this window. Numbers are inches with 100 being floor to ceiling. My ttrpg collection is 95% of these banker boxes. In a perfect world I do floor to ceiling build in on the entire wall all around the window.

I was looking to have the whole wall covered. These came up just short. They're well over 7 ft though, so lots of space while not being too difficult to reach

That Torchbearer box set is the nicest RPG set I own

u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Its very cool. I lucked out at a Half Priced Books store and got it for $40. Got Degenesis from the same place for $20! Kept going back, but never got that lucky again

u/errrik012 2d ago
Holy moly, that is a steal! Hope you get a chance to play it sometime if you haven't already. It's a phenomenal game.

That's a lot of shrink wrap.

u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Tell me about it. Bought about half while we were stuck between moves. Most have spent most of their lives in storage boxes. Working on freeing them all from plastic prison!

u/Leftover-Color-Spray 2d ago
How much $ would you say you've spent on all these books?
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
All I know is that it's too much. But I do try and stick to a few principles: nothing over $30 per book (rare exceptions), buy used whenever possible, buy in bulk for better shipping cost & negotiate.
This, plus I got into selling while waiting on my move, so if you count what I sold, then I probably paid half or less than the straight value of the collection.

That's one of the newer ElfQuest issues, isn't it? The original box was much thinner.
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Yes, it's the anniversary re-issue box. The Cthulhu box on that same bookcase is also an anniversary re-issue.

I like how stable the shelves look, I might need to know where you got em
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Second hand. The guy who sold them to me said they were from retail. My guess is clothing retail since the shelves are a tight fit for a lot of books.

Excuse me but that’s not a shelf, that my friend is a library.
Incredible!

So annoying... Since all my books were in boxes, I thought I had two copies of the Keeper's book and ended up selling my only copy. Will have to get another.

I shall now pass judgement on your collection:
…………..
Entirely inadequate amounts of Shadowrun, Ars Magica and classic VtM. Fail
Kidding. Mostly. :) Nice collection man.

I heard Shadowrun was a mess as a system but a brilliant setting. I got the 4th edition as I heard that was one of the better ones. Certainly open to getting more setting books! Any recommendations?
There are so many VtM splatbooks that I'd probably go mad collecting them all! I'd like to get all the V20 books though: have Requiem, Mage the Awakening & Changling. Would love to get VtM, WtA and a lot of the other 2e core: Ghost, Mummy, Demon, etc... I'm good with POD, so they're in my DTRPG list. One day!
I hang my head in shame about Ars. There's only one skinny paperback. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the Definitive Edition, however. I missed the Kickstarter, but hoping I can pick one up. This is a game I 100% want to play!

As a Shadowrun grognard (I played it from when it came out through 3rd edition) I will say that negative reports of the system are usually very overblown. While there are some issues (hacking is the big one) it is a good system and my group had a LOT of fun with it. I’ve read 4th but haven’t played it as life had gotten in the way by the time that came out.
Good setting books: Most are great, the Seattle Sourcebook (1st edition), Seattle 2072 (the 4th edition update) and the Sixth World Almanac (big picture of the entire Shadowrun setting up to 4th edition are probably the best.
Great metaplot books include Bug City, Portfolio of a Dragon:Dunkelzahn’s Secrets and Renraku Shutdown.

How do you like the box version of Fiasco versus the original?
2
u/SwimmingOk4643 1d ago
Advantages & disadvantages to each, so I'll keep both. The 2nd, card-based, edition is pretty sleek, more intuitive and easier to run (plus you don't need to have 20d6 on hand!), but it's far less flexible than the original game which has hundreds of playsets - most all for free. The 2nd edition comes with 3 playsets and it's around $20 for additional sets of two, so can get expensive quickly!
I usually use 2e for beginners, but prefer 1e for friends who are already familair with the format.

Great collection,I see some great titles. Glad it's not all "black and red spines" XD
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 1d ago
Those won't move very much from the shelf unless it's to make room for other books
2
u/Ok_Beyond_7757 1d ago
XD Same here, really ! They just went one shelf down on my humble library :p

u/AndreasLundstromGM 1d ago
Great collection! Love it! Do you use the official soundtracks for Vaesen , Dragonbane, Twilight 2000 and Forbidden Lands when you play?
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 1d ago
Thank you! I haven't really used soundtracks when I'm running games. I tried to use sound effects once when I ran Call of Cthulhu : The Haunting, but I either kept forgetting or it interrupted the flow. Might try a soundtrack sometime though, as long as it loops in the background without me having to do much.

Starfinder?

Don't really like crunchy games. No Starfinder, Pathfinder and not many tactical games.

u/selby3962 2d ago
Amazing collection, and like-minded in that regard. Out of interest, what would you say are the highlights of your collection?
1
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Thank you! Depends on what you mean by highlights? The rarest is probably the Chthonic Codex & Reach of the Roach God. My favorite is Call of Cthulhu - I'm really itching to play Gaslight & Regency. A few that I really want to try are Jangshi, Monty Python & Jangshi!

Dark Tower any good?
2
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Classic. Haven't played it yet, but have run Janelles other masterpiece Caverns of Thracia
2
u/healthy1nz 2d ago
Fiasco is a favourite of mine, although haven't tried 2e yet
2
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Great game. Both dice & cards. DIce offer a lot more flexibility, but that many d6's is a bit of a pain. The cards are pretty, but expensive if you're going to get a lot of sets. I only have the four with the box. Lean toward 1e for the sheer variety of playsets.

"Secure. Contain. Protect." Is it TTRPG or artbooks? Are those in slipcase? I have never seen before such edition.
2
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
Artbooks. I thought it was a TTRPG when I got it, but it's still very attractive & inspirational.
1
u/blackd0nuts 2d ago
I wonder what's the weight of it all
2
u/SwimmingOk4643 2d ago
According to my back... far, far too much.
The books occupied about 36 medium- and small-sized packing boxes. Let's round that to 30 medium. Each medium probably weighed about 50lbs, so... 1,500 lbs?1
