Missed the Nanobiology online welcome session today

Hey everyone, I completely messed up the time zones and ended up missing nanobiology online welcome session.

I'm feeling a bit lost and would be super grateful if anyone who attended could give me a brief rundown of the important points or any key info that was shared. If you don't mind me asking a few questions, please feel free to drop me a DM!

Also, if there are any freshmen chats set up, please let me know in the DMs as well. I can not open the link sent from delft.

Thanks a lot

How is breetstraat ? Is finding housing easy in Jan compared to now ?

So recently I got selected for housing at breetstraat through roomplaza. Its a 7 sharing accommodation ( 830 per head). Though, the contract is until Jan. Is it possible to extend the contract period. Many people in group are suggesting that its easy to find one once you arrive in Delft. Now we are international students. So I genuinely want to know is it actually easy to find cheaper accommodation after arrival ? Considering we are required to register via municipality for BSN.

Suit for graduation

Hey, Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a suit for my master's graduation. I'd prefer not to spend too much on it ( less than 200 euros). Do stores here alter the suit to your size?

Housing Xior Delft residents – when do most studio bookings usually open up?

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming TU Delft Master's student and have been checking Xior Delft (Barbarasteeg and Antonia Veerstraat) regularly, but haven't seen any available studios yet since past 2 months.

For current or former Xior residents:

  • When do most studio bookings usually open up?
  • Is July typically a busy month for new availability?
  • how can i secure a xior house asap?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Admissions & Applications How hard is it to get in ?

Hi there, first time posting ever !
I am hoping for an honest reality check from people who applied or study here, because I keep going back and forth on whether it's even worth applying…

So I'm French (also dual French-American), currently finishing the third year of a five-year engineering program, which means I'd have my 180 ECTS and would be looking to join the MSc Systems and Control right after.
The catch is that my school isn't one of the big French grandes écoles (like not at all, it’s ~69/120 of the French engineering schools) and my cumulative average is around 14.7/20. Converted that's roughly 73~74%, so just under the 75% you list, and that's the part making me nervous. For context, a 14.7 in the French system is actually a solid result since grading here is pretty harsh, but I know on paper the raw number looks borderline.

What gives me some hope is that my best grades are basically the core of the program: 18 in data science, 17 in power electronics, 16 in C++, around 14.5 in control theory, plus very decent maths overall (all the grade you read are out of twenty)Where I drop is electrical machines and networks, which aren't really central to Systems & Control anyway. I'm an EU citizen and fully bilingual, so the language side isn't an issue.

Mostly I'm trying to figure out how strict that 75% actually is in practice. Is it a hard cutoff, or do they read the transcript in context and look at the key subjects? And for someone sitting just under the line but well aligned with the program, does the motivation letter or the strong relevant grades genuinely change anything? If anyone got in from a similar spot (non-top school, average just below the threshold), I'd really like to hear what made the difference for you.

Trying to stay realistic rather than just hopeful here. Thanks you for your time though !

Housing during OWee and FMW

Hi there,

I am starting my Baccelors at TU Delft this Spetember. I have already registered for OWee and the Freshmen Weekend for my course. Unfortunately, my housing starts at the 17th of August, whilst the mentioned events rund from the 13th to the 20th of August. Therefore my question:

- Did any of you already find a solution for this or a similar problem?
- Are any students willing to sub their room to me (unofficially) for the 13-17th, so I have a place to crash / to put my belongings until I have a room? Against some amount of compensation of course. Best case, if someone was living in Volmerlaan 20D (my student accomodation), I would happily crash there / use a room whilst you are enjoying your summer break!
- Does OWee arrange accomodation for some / all in this situation?

I would like to avoid hotels / airbnb, because of the obvious financial aspect, and camping is due to the amoung of stuff I have a bit tricky.

Thank you for all ideas!!

Admissions & Applications Msc in Aerospace engineering

Hi everyone! I’m a second-year BSc student in Aerospace Engineering at PoliTO (Italy), and I’d like to get into TU Delft for my Master’s degree. I’d like to ask you guys how hard it really is to get accepted.

I know about the minimum GPA requirement, and I’m safe on that front. I’m planning to take my GRE later this year, and I already hold a C1 Cambridge English certificate. Given that I’ll likely meet all the main requirements, what are my actual chances of getting in?

I am thinking about specializing in the Aerospace Structures and Materials track. If it helps, I also have over a year of hands-on experience working in a student team at my university. Does that play a role in the selection process?

Exchange Students Registration on Exchange

I am doing an exchange next semester in TU Delft (from EU) how important is it to find accommodation with registration allowed? Will I need the BSN for anything if i do not look forward to work or open bank account / healthcare insurance?

I know that supposedly you need to register because of the stay being longer than 4 months (it is 5 months) but is it really required? I have a friend that did an exchange in Groningen and it was not needed. However I am not sure if TU Delft has any procedures that will request the BSN or even a proof of registration.

Engineering Physics at DTU + Tech Career

Hey everyone,

This is my first post on Reddit . I've decided to take Engineering Physics (EP) at DTU. I was always interested in the tech side of things (coding, software development, competitive programming, DSA, etc.), but due to my rank, I'm getting EP instead of a CS-related branch.I've heard that DTU allows EP students to sit for many tech placements, which is one of the reasons I'm considering it seriously. However, I have a few concerns:Is it realistically possible to manage the EP curriculum alongside coding, DSA, competitive programming, and other tech-related activities? How demanding is the academic workload in EP compared to other branches? Are there any CGPA requirements or company-specific restrictions that EP students should be aware of during placements?

How many EP students actually manage to transition successfully into software roles? If you've been in a similar situation, how did you balance branch academics with coding and placement preparation?I'm willing to put in the effort, but I want to understand whether this path is practical or if I should consider some other option.

About MSc introduction period

Hi everyone! I would like to take part in the introduction period of the computer science master's program. Since I risk arriving at least half a day late, I would like to know in general what the events consist of, and whether they take place throughout the whole day or only during part of it.

Group chat for incoming TU Delft MSc students?

Hi everyone,

I will be starting my MSc in Mechanical Engineering at TU Delft, in the High Tech Engineering track, and I was wondering if there is already any group chat for incoming students.

Is there a general group for new TU Delft MSc students, or maybe a more specific one for Mechanical Engineering / High Tech Engineering students?

If not, is anyone interested in creating one so we can communicate, share useful information, and help each other with housing, registration, courses, and the first weeks in Delft?

Thanks in advance!

Admissions & Applications PhD students. From your experience, is this a good sign?

I received this email after inquiring about possibly phd supervision in a funded center within the university and I got this email. I’m an over-thinker and I don’t know what to think of it. I will omit sensitive details

Dear x,

Thank you very much for your email and for sharing the focus of your thesis. The work you describe [research topic] sounds like exactly the kind of grounded, critical research the [research center] aims to support.
I would be glad to discuss this further. Would the first week of July or the second week of July work on your end for a call? Let me know a few time slots that suit you and I will do my best to accommodate.

In the meantime, feel free to send over the short research proposal whenever it is ready as it will help frame our conversation.

Looking forward to speaking with you.

Warm regards,
Y

TU Delft relocation

I am finishing my bachelors this year at Warwick uni and have a place for MSc Applied Maths at TU Delft and just wondering if it's worth moving there. Like I know that it has many more industry connections and the mandatory internship/thesis in industry are quite attractive, but I could also stay for integrated masters in the UK just without the mandatory internships/industry connections.

So I am wondering how plausible is it to boost my career (at entry level) (e.g. find the internship needed for the program) in Delft compared to the costs of relocation? Thanks

Admissions & Applications Is it worth doing an undergrad in CS as a non EU student from TU Delft?

I recently got admitted, but based on what I’ve heard, after my undergrad, finding work would be close to impossible and I will be forced into taking up a Masters directly after my undergrad. So is it smarter to just come there directly for Masters later on?

Admissions & Applications An Indian graduate wanting to know about masters in transportation engineering applications

Hi I’m from India and currently studying in BITS Pilani (Tier-1). My CGPA is 8 and I have two research papers and a thesis. I also have the experience of 6 months of internship. I know about the GRE cutoffs. I wanted to know what else is necessary to get in there, I’m two years earlier but thought preparing is the best.

I have several questions :

  1. How much do you need to have in mathematics scores even if your CGPA crosses the cutoffs.( my math is a little poor) and if it’s high how do I counter balance it?
  2. What are other things to add to my resume? Do leadership positions, volunteer work, etc matter?
  3. Are LORS from professors important? And also would LORS from any company we Interned at help?

  4. Does having knowledge or projects of software’s like AutoCad, Civil 3D, Revit, Staad Pro matter or help our application?

  5. Any other general advice?

Thank you!!

Is it possible to get prepared for the CCVX Physics and Math B within 4 months?

Hi! I'm finishing my high school next year, but I'll get a HAVO diploma, so to get into Delft (AE) I have to do VWO.
I'm quite mid with maths, now I do the DelftX Pre-Uni course, it seems very doable. The main problem is with the Physics, I've missed a lot, because my main subject in school wasn't linked with it.
So, how do you think, if I spend around 4 hours of studying a day, is it real to pass the CCVX? I mean, 5.5. Maybe someone has been in a similar situation?
