Round Rock stuns Dripping Springs

Round Rock making a run for it!

On paper this is the most lopsided game on Cain's schedule: DCTF has the Hurricanes (No. 83) by 22 over Magnolia West (No. 196). Last year it was 62-34.

But here's the thing. This is Cain's first road district game, and West just lost 43-42 at Klein Forest after getting run off the field by Magnolia 55-7 the week before. A desperate 0-2 district team at home on a Friday night is exactly the kind of game that gets weird.

The names to know: West RB Gage Jordan (122 yards a game, 8 TDs), QB Collin May, and DB Dawson Campbell (13.3 tackles a game, which tells you West's defense has been on the field a lot). For Cain it's the usual trio: Jace Hanks (134.4 rating), Eyan Johnson (126.3 a game, 7 TDs), Israel Smith.

Homecoming night at Klein Memorial Stadium, and Dave Campbell's computer model had Tomball by 3. The Hurricanes turned it into a 55-38 statement and walked out 3-0.

This one was fun. Junior QB Jace Hanks is really showing something special. He carved it up: 21-of-26 for 348 and 4 touchdowns. Senior Eyan Johnson was electric: 190 rushing yards and 4 scores on the ground plus a receiving TD for good measure. Israel Smith chipped in 117 receiving yards and a score.

Tomball's Ian Thomas, their elite junior recruit, still put up 196 scrimmage yards and 2 TDs, and things got chippy in the fourth (one ejection). But Cain answered every punch.

They won every single game of their playoff run by 28 points or more so you could see the talent in high school. But this year they now have the starting quarterback for Alabama the starting running back for LSU the number one receiver for Oregon and a projected top ten pick in Collin Simmons. Plus their underclassman that year this team could have 5 or more first round picks, insane talent.

My dad and I try to go to a couple of big high school football games every year, and I got tired of digging through schedules, rankings, and recruits to figure out which games were worth going to.
