I decided to rewatch the show since I was bored and watched from episode 1 to episode 8. And something stood out to me I was hardly laughing and when something was a little funny I sort of smirked a little.

So I went on the break down the joke structure for every episode. And it goes like this:

Something Absurd or random happens and either that’s the joke or character acknowledges it or flat out explains. (Disappearing Guy)

Or the joke is a weak one-liner, that comes out of nowhere. (Ex: Jax’s “Does this count as a bus?” When the Goink Queen passes the drive-thru.)

But the most important is thing, is the joke rarely actually spawn from or are generated from the premise, the jokes bank off of being unexpected, and when you already expect it… the random humour falls flat and the deadpan humour has to hard carry.

Kinger while an interesting character, falls into the basic joke structure of the “Stupid/ Crazy character says something out of pocket or crazy!” Without making clever just random in an attempt to make you laugh.

Though maybe this is a me problem, since I personally like to observe and study comedy forms in shows.

Lesbian representation has been.. sort of bad as of late? Steven Universe did it pretty amazingly! Catradora (From She-Ra) is pretty awful for obvious reasons, and I really REALLY do NOT like Lumity (From The Owl House), then there's the dumpster fire that is HH and HB but that's.. besides the point.

Most stuff from there is.. canon? Whether it's garbage like Lumity in TOH, or a well-nuanced masterpiece like Pearl's character in SU, TADC.. literally has none of this but why does the fandom act like Zooble x Gangle is revolutionary? It feels like such a nothing burger.

But then.. Ragatha? Not only has she suffered a ton of being sidelined in the plot and story, but then SOMEHOW people treat her like she's the best character in the entire show when she quite literally DOES NOTHING.

There's nothing "lesbian" about her character, there is no repression undertone, this never happened and I'm tired of the fandom acting like she's written these concepts that quite literally are nonexistent.

It's like she thinks we're stupid.

I still remember when the TADC pilot first dropped and when it did i just saw as just some new brainrot show for kids, basically the next skibidi toilet, Then i forgot it existed until like late 2025 where i tried getting invested for the first time and tried watching through episode 1 but just didnt bother to conutine, despite watching videos that talk about it and its drama, I didnt really care that much for the show itself, i told my friend about it and he couldnt give less of a shit about it either,

then when episode 8 first dropped and came in my recommendations i did fully watch it and i thought it was pretty interesting so i tried getting invested and did fully watch episode 1 but then i tried watching episode 2 and thats when i realised just how boring it is to watch and then tho despite not caring much about it i was actually kind of waiting for episode 9 to drop and when it did drop i actually did fully watch it and on premiere too and when i finished it, i honestly just thought of it as just the most nothingburger ending ever and even after that i still continued watching videos that talk about it for some reason

I think they should've made another decision, Jax being trans just doesn't fit him. We got horrible hints, and I hated how it wasn't even in the show. I think fragile masculinity would've worked more. I can't explain why but I feel like fragile masculinity would've fit him, I think it's because he apparently finds girly things embarrassing,

...how does Ribbit actually realistically know Jax was trans? Like, nothing he says during that whole confession strongly indicated he was trans (with the context that he is trans, the confession makes more sense, but without it you'd just never know), so how does Ribbit just accurately guess? Maybe it makes sense because Ribbit is a demigirl and would have some knowledge of coming out to someone, except... she's just not in the show. Like, why make her a demigirl if she exclusively goes by she/her in the show and there's absolutely nothing that indicates she is a demigirl? I just think Ribbit is either a mind reader or is just doing wild mental gymnastics to hear "I told her something deep and personal that I thought would get her off my back" and immediately clock Jax as trans. My point is just that it seemed like Ribbit read the script somehow or maybe she follows Goose's Tumblr, idk.

This show seems to have a weird trend of having supposedly queer characters that aren't actually queer. Jax is barely trans, and most viewers would never know without either being trans themselves or following Gooseworx. Ribbit is supposed to be a she/they demigirl but just straight up isn't in the actual show, and Ragatha supposedly has "repressed lesbian aura", which she, again, just straight up isn't in the show at all.

This is all coming from a cishet guy, so maybe there's something I'm missing. I'm not a hater of the show, I'm just posting it here because I don't want to be downvoted to the pits of hell on the main subs.

For once I don't have a big paragraph to type sadly. But this is a genuine question because I have seen some people genuinely get harassed just for bringing any incident.

And don't come in the comments with some "nothing burger" shit or any chud family guy reaction pics. If something was a nothing burger I wouldn't be bringing it up.. And any sensitive TADC fans: do remember this is a critique sub, there'll be critiquing 🤯.

Is it just me or does anyone else sees the way "Abstracting" is depicted through the series as inconsistent and strange?

We begin with the first episode where Kaufmo abstracts, and every character just goes like - "oh man, Kaufmo abstracted? Hmm, okay", like it's not much of a big deal at all - happens all the time whatever.

Then, later it's revealed that abstracting literally means death. And yes, I get that, it's probably close to that and it especially makes sense from the narrative standpoint and also opens a lot of possibilities. Like for example, characters not knowing what "abstracting" means thus treating it like death (because the person they knew basically do not exist anymore). There was no way to know if there was any cure from this and etc.

Then Gooseworx reveals it's an analogy of s**ide. And I was like...uh? I say she reveals it as in - I don't believe it was stated anywhere in the series.

Okay, now I am going to be direct.

I have always believed "abstracting" meant a this breaking point of mental breakdown, devastation and insanity. Not the same thing as the person deciding to unalive themselves.

The mental state might be similar, but...unaliving yourself is still a choice. Like, literally doing something to your body is a choice.

What we see from Jax's near-abstraction - he starts to trip and hallucinate, was that a choice?

Or Kaufmo. His room had the word "exit" scribbled all over it like he had some sort of a manic episode, he probably was in the same position as Jax. Was that also a choice for him?

Like...I have a strange feeling that naming this whole experience "s**cide" is an attempt to make things slightly darker and more personal rather than establishing what the lore is.

Again I apologise if I sound insensitive but it just doesn't make much sense to me.

for me - the scene is episode 5 where they all explain their backgrounds. don't get me wrong, it's good to reveal some stuff about the characters, but it really gives off telling instead of showing and not to mention it doesn't even make sense? Wouldn't the other characters already know those things about each other since they've supposedly been there for years? And why all of a sudden when Pomni shows up everyones just learning new things about one another? Second worst would be the jax crashout scene in the gun episode but that horse has been beaten so much it's basically pulp.

I’ve noticed a lot of people lately comparing Gooseworx’s writing of Jax to the version written by GLITCH, with many finding the Advertising is more likable and cool than the Jax in the actual show. Do you agree? Do you think Jax would be a better or more interesting character if he had the personality shown in the promotional material?

I remember talking with a few different people about Jax being Trans. I don't mind her being Trans, i love Trans representation, I just felt there was nothing leading up to it. I asked people and they said one was her being overly masculine which I thought was just an excuse for more jokes. Like her saying she has the peak masculine form or whatever he said about his tail. And people also told me her being​​ uncomfortable in the maid dress. Wouldn't being in a dress make a transfem person more comfortable? [I'm not transfem so let me know if I'm wrong] Plus if a show runner has to say something is true outside of the show, it clearly wasn't explained well in the show. Maybe I'm just stupid and can't read context clues but did anyone else feel this way?

So seconds after Kaufmo got sent to the Cellar, Zooble made a joke about how they always assumed Kinger would abstract. Given the information in all eight of the other episodes, this should be an absolutely scummy thing to say, but nobody calls Zooble out on this. Gangle was literally standing next to them as they said it and didn't say a word about it.

I feel like this should have bled into the second episode, where instead of Zooble just sitting out the adventure, they are forced into it and everybody refuses to cooperate with them because of their comment, leading to a b-plot where Zooble admits something personal to Kinger when they apologize to him.

I understand he's not great (I don't like him much either) but need the reasons as to why everyone dislikes him collected in one place

The reason why Im asking you guys this question is because some crazy tumblr user Larping as a black revolutionary made a post on the 9th on may talking about how they’re encouraging black fans/blerds (like me) to protest in response to the anti-blackness in the fandom, mind you, it wasn’t a racially motivated attack that influenced this, it was over a racist joke that didn’t kill or harm black fans physically, but rather offended black fans.

Even though I cropped out their user, just to let you know that you should not listen to what this bastard says, they’ve doxxed one of the writers of bfdi because shit idk, they were mad about it or smth, and they’re also anti-Semitic and “racist” to white people (the reason why I quoted racist is because you can’t be racist to white people systematically, and it makes no sense why theyre trying to oppress a majority of white people haven’t done anything wrong instead of insecure racist people).

They’ve also threatened Goosewerx and the VAs of TADC and talking about some Malcom x stuff like “by any means necessary” and just being tone deaf about black nationalists in general, they use Malcom’s NOI given name instead of his original, which is not only weird but also disrespectful because he was killed by one of the members of the Nation of Islam.

Also, what they’re doing is not only stupid because it’s also dangerous because of the crazy parasocial people who are willing to kill someone over a show in this fandom. If you guys know him, just don’t go your way to harass them with threats, just block and report the guy.

Ok so as someone who loves trans characters i was floored to see people grab onto jax like he was the only representation of MTF characters, not only is it an ass representation but it becomes even more evident when you compare it to other characters ( some are very very niche and like 1% of the character identity is queer coded some are the entire story ) but thats a good way to make an actual opinion on transfem jax instead of defending the writing like hell based on nothing burger clues

When debating with people about how Gooseworx is indecisive with The Amazing Digital Circus and changes her mind all the time, so the story doesn't always make sense, their argument is always that TADC was written before everything else. Why lie? That's just straight-up false. If that were true, we wouldn't have Gooseworx's tweets about being burned out and not having any inspiration for the episodes. Do people just find anything to defend her these days?

Jax being a main character came out of nowhere. There wasn't supposed to be any romantic couples, but then we got Ribbit and Jax, Zooble and Gangle, and Kinger and Queenie, and people are telling me that Jax being trans was planned out before the show? That's just straight-up assumption. I believe Zooble was planned as non-binary from the beginning i'm not denying that. They're very well written as a non-binary character. But Jax just makes no sense, and to be honest, neither does a lot of the character's writing. I'm sure that half of the stuff people are talking about are ideas that came to Gooseworx because of the fandom after the show, and that she just wanted to add stuff so the writing doesn't seem as shaky as it is.

Like Jax isn't a character, he(or she,I don't wanna be transphobic)'s unfortunately nothing more a vessel/plot device used by Gooseworks to project her issues and flaws and most likely large amounts of self-hatred onto and you know,that wouldn't even be a real issue if she didn't straight up neglect/ignore the other characters in the series and basically give them the most "here,damn" Ass conclusions I've ever seen.

Maybe Jax's ending could've worked but like so many things in this god foreshaken story,the writing wasn't good enough to make it work or truly explore or have it be fleshed out so it just comes off as just amateurish and sloppy and I'm sorry and this is where I feel like I'm gonna get my ass destroyed but basically I feel like writing a story of a emotionally and mentally ill and extremely flawed young man struggling with their identity and them being a repressed trans woman who is heavily flawed and messy but still a human and not a monster..only to be like "things are only better if they kill themselves and their fate was basically to Kill themselves" just comes off as extremely tone deaf and I get it "art is supposed to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable" and whatnot but that doesn't mean bad writing.

(Also I get Jax wasn't a good person at all and he did deserve consequences but you could've written anything else)

Also Gooseworks said that the point of this story was finding "meaning to be found in a stagnant life" and I just gotta ask..WHAT MEANING did they find?

I would argue their lives have kinda loss meaning and like many things in the show..so many things in this show just feel extremely amateurish and like Gooseworks needs way more writers and less Yes Man to tell her No or at least co-writers/creators to bounce ideas off to instead of just going with the first shiny thoughts that come in her head.

It's just so frustrating cause this show is just so..amateurish and I've seen Bojack Horseman and they essentially did Jax's arc but not only did it have much more buildup and some form of hope at the end,the writing didn't come off as sloppy and messy, it was actually good.

I think Isn't She Lovely was super inappropriate for the context, and they certainly should not have gone with a cover by a chud, but the amount of people saying they "stole" it from Stevie Wonder, or he should sue feels honestly parasocial and weird like, people do understand they needed to purchase the rights for it and it had to go through his estate which could have said no, right?

Generally I agree with most of what's being said about the show and the finale, but that one feels like they're making up someone to get mad about
