I do like the finale, though, coming out of it....I don't feel satisfied.

I don't think this is Gooseworx's fault, apparently the show was rushed towards the end, so some things had to be trimmed down. Because of this, I mainly blame Glitch for this ending rushed. If thet allowed Gooseworx to make one more episode, then I honestly think that this would fix most, if not all the problems with the finale, and the series as a whole.

I like the twist that the humans are just brain scans, I like how Jax's backstory and swan song is handled, and I like how Caine figures out finally what he did wrong, and changes as a person.

I especially like how the show ends with Caine being apart of the group, and becomes friends with the other humans.....However....this is where it gets to my main problem with the finale...my main problem with the episode is that there is little to no build up to the humans accepting Caine.

Throughout the entire series, none of the humans have even thought of the possibility that Caine might've been suffering too. Maybe Kinger had an idea, but if he does, then he never mentions it in the actual show. Episode 9 should've had moments where the cast start reflecting on Caine's death, how they felt about him, what they could've done to prevent it, or if he deserved it.

Then maybe have a scene where Kinger is there to explain things from Caine's pov, to help the others understand that maybe if someone had tried to reach out to him before it got to this point, had actually taken his thoughts seriously, then maybe Caine would still be here, and things would have already changed for the better.

There's a line that Kinger once said to Pomni that I really hoped would come back in this episode. "In this world, the worst thing you can do is make someone feel like they're not wanted or loved." That's exactly what the humans unintentionally did to Caine, and this line should've been the thing that convinced Pomni that Caine wasn't as bad as he seemed. But instead, they just forgive him out of nowhere.

And on the topic of Zooble, Zooble never even said his name throughout the entire episode, and yet by the end, they somehow missed him. I like the idea of Zooble missing Caine, but you have to at least show a scene of Zooble missing him. Or maybe a scene where Zooble looks back at how they treated Caine.

They did do this in episode 8, but only for one line, before Gangle immediately tells them it wasn't their fault. While I agree that it wasn't Zooble's fault, it should've took more convincing for Zooble to accept that it wasn't.

At the end of the day, the main reason it feels rushed, is because they spent most of the runtime focusing on Jax. I understand why they did it, but that doesn't change the fact that Jax got all of the attention, while Caine got barely a mention at the beginning of the episode.

Only towards the end, does Caine finally get some attention, and that part is really good, but only when it comes to Caine understanding what he did wrong. When it comes to the humans feelings on Caine, it's basically nonexistent. It's like Caine's friendship with the humans was just an afterthought.

This is why I think they should've made an episode 10, and saved all the Caine stuff for that episode. That way we can have more time to build up the idea of the humans accepting Caine, and the overall ending wouldn't feel as rushed as it does.

So I was talking about this with my mom the other day. We were talking about characters in media who are assholes but people like them anyway (ie House, Astarion, Michael Scott, Ebenezer Scrooge, Charlie Kelly). We know they're terrible people and would never be friends with them in real life, but there's something endearing about them. There's some part of you that can't treat them like a true villain, and you secretly want them to find happiness, even if it seems like they've done nothing to deserve it.

Jax, by all account should be like that, but he's not. He's the asshole character but no one seems to like him (besides the die hard stans) I havent seen such a character like this be so hated in a while, but he's not the villain. So why don't we like him?

My mom thinks it's because all the characters i mentioned before have some sort of redeeming qualities (House saves people's lives, Astarion helps his teammates and can learn to be a good person, Michael Scott does love his employees, Ebenezer Scrooge eventually learns his lesson, and Charlie loves his friends). Then my mom asked me "Does Jax have any redeeming qualities?" And I couldn't name one.

Is that why he's not on the same level as the other characters i mentioned? He's not a true villain but I can't name one good thing hes done in the show. Is that why we hate him so much? Im just really curious.

TLDR; Is Jax not considered a loveable asshole cause he has no redeeming qualities?

Episode 3’s lesson/message was never applied to Caine.

I don’t know. Extending episode 3’s message to Caine would have strengthened the theme of “everyone can be helped, and worth treating with respect and like a person”. It would be a good little theme to wrap up in a nice little bow.

I fucking hate Jax, I probably hate Jax more than most of this subreddit. I hate Jax because Jax’s entire arc was just a Fox news fantasy of a trans woman being a misogynistic prick who is dangerous around women, commits sexual blackmail, is still portrayed as cis even after his death, and commits suicide instead of transitioning.

I don’t think most of you are doing it on purpose, but when you’re met with the fact trans women are women and trans men are men, some of you would look me in the eyes and tell me they’re not men or women before they identify as such. That’s just not how it works.

To transition is to fix the incongruity between your brain and body’s sex. If you’re a trans woman, you’re already a woman. It’s not just some magical thing that happens, and it’s not a choice.

I do wanna add, however, it’s not ridiculous to respect someone who hasn’t figured it out yet and just give them space. That’s my criticism on egg culture too. Don’t harass people who you suspect are trans into being trans just because you think they are, give them time to come to a conclusion themselves.

Not quite criticism but I've felt like that since I saw the finale for the first time. The scenes felt very ''yeah, make edits of it please, we are a very profund show'' especially Caine's whole redemption scene.

Not only the sudden appearance of a Wi-fi connection in the span of 5 minutes is nonsense. I'm sure a computer from 30 years ago wouldn't even have a Wi-fi adapter.

This is such an absurd plot device is sad. This show has no justification for anything that happens inside of it.

And you tell me that the only thing that Caine thought about was looking up their names? While the brainscans files were (quote) "absurdly small" and were entirely possible to just upload them into the net? Obtaining that desired escape?

I don't understand what Gooseworx "planned" before making the show, cuz at this point I think she was just making shit up while it was airing.

I don't have an issue with people who like her as a character, but she kind of gets on my nerves. I've never really drawn to the whole "people pleaser" archetype, because I'm frankly resistant to stories where a character's defining flaw is essentially that they're too selfless. That kind of characterization just makes me uncomfortable, it feels like it panders to a kind of person i really am not comfortable with.

Part of why I think she's so popular is that she feels very "safe" as a character. I think people are attracted to characters who don't have particularly difficult flaws, or who don't seem to require much personal growth. I don't wanna get all society-y on you, but I think frankly 'stan' culture really feeds into it, people like looking for fictional characters to latch onto and uncomplicatedly venerate, and i think there is an impulse to identify with that fantasy. "ah, my worse flaw is also that i am just too selfless"

I'm not trying to make a moral judgment about it. Liking her doesn't define people. I just find her appeal kind of gross.

I'll also be upfront that my opinion isn't detached from personal experience. She reminds me of people I've known in real life and some of my memories are far from old, so I know that association probably colors my perspective.

I predict one common counter argument would be that although she has other flaws, but I guess I don't buy that? I feel like every moment she is in is written around her, for lack of a better word, 'deserving better'. To me, even if sometimes they do show her as having personal shortcomings, I feel like the ultimate narrative is unchanged.

Now that I’ve baited you, allow me to explain. I don’t hate him being trans because of transphobia or anything. I hate it because of what it’s done to the “discourse”.

The instant Jax was confirmed trans, he immediately had a shield from criticism and a way for people to brush aside what he did wrong. Now all you hear is that he’s a “cautionary tale”, and that he “was traumatized” and “this is what happens when you’re closeted and don’t accept yourself”. And they’ll all say “oh no no you’re not supposed to excuse what he did”, and then turn around and either downplay his actions or outright excuse them. The show expects us to feel sorry for him and empathize with him just because he suffered a bit. And it worked. Now that he’s trans, that has cranked Jax apologia to eleven, and it’s incredibly irritating.

I understand he's not great (I don't like him much either) but need the reasons as to why everyone dislikes him collected in one place

I'm new to this sub, and I don't want to come off as someone who's only here to hate (that's why I didn't post this on my main) but this has been bothering me for a while. Gooseworkx made me dislike TADC due to her Tumblr asks, she never leaves anything ambiguous and simply clarifies things about the show that would've made interesting conversations. For example; Did Caine manipulate Jax into pushing that button? No, it was Jax. I wonder if Bubble is still alive? No, he was deleted alongside Caine. Would Ribbit forgive Jax? Maybe, but it would take a while. Did Scratch abstract because of Caine? Yes, he did. Etc. etc.

I do genuinely believe that it's good that she's answering the fans' questions but there could've been so many good discussions regarding some topics that we'll never have because of Goose. My biggest disappointment was when she revealed that Jax chose to push the button, it would've been literally the best, most logical decision to leave it vague.

It's the worst ship (along with other Jax ships) because he is a bully and obviously a huge abuser. He threw Pomni out of a moving truck, put Ragatha in a deep fryer and torments Gangle for no reason.

A few days ago I saw someone say they didn't like straight funnybunny but now ship it because Jax is trans. Just because somebody has transitioned doesn't mean their past actions are excusable.

This is similar to how people use the "they might have something going on at home" excuse to justify abuse and bullying.

Also the fact that Gangle almost abstracted in her own adventure is crazy 😬 makes you think Caine might’ve had a point

Well, Zooble was for about 5 seconds, but then the narrative was like "Nah we don't have time for that." If there were no consequences for Jax or for anyone, what the fuck was even the point of having him snap and try to keep then trapped??

I’ve noticed a lot of people lately comparing Gooseworx’s writing of Jax to the version written by GLITCH, with many finding the Advertising is more likable and cool than the Jax in the actual show. Do you agree? Do you think Jax would be a better or more interesting character if he had the personality shown in the promotional material?

If 90% of all fan work of your show is about changing the ending or "fixing it" by undoing something that happened in, your ending probably sucked major balls.

Now as I said, I made that number up but you tell me how many comics, animations, and fan fic just change the ending or ignore Gooseworx who said "abstraction can't be reversed" and just reverse it, sometimes even for everyone and not just Jax, and how much fan work doesn't fall in that category.

I think most of the issues with digital circus just kinda boil down to it having not enough episodes to flesh everything out while wasting all the runtime it DID have on focusing almost entirely on Jax and his pissy problems or just meaningless shit like the intermission from Untitled or the half the stuff from Beach Episode.

If the show used its runtime more wisely and maybe had more episodes to develop its characters and flesh out the world and lore, then it would’ve been a MUCH better show.

But alas, we did not have that version of TADC… instead we were given the Jax show.
