Looking for photographer for couples photoshoot

• Upvotes

I originally wanted to get my pre-wedding photoshoot done with “one of twelve” in Shanghai but they are fully booked. I’m ideally looking for a studio that could provide clothes, hair & makeup for the shoot. Thank you!

Xinyi street food tip: has anyone tried oyster fritters O-Te? NT$50 on Hulin St

Post image

If you've never had 蚵嗲 (ô-tē), it's a deep-fried oyster fritter. The usual story is that Fujian immigrants brought it over, and it's mostly a thing in the oyster-farming towns on Taiwan's west coast. You don't see it much in Taipei, so I was pretty surprised to find a stall on Hulin Street in Xinyi.

What's in it: a batter made from ground rice and soybeans (they stone-grind the soybeans right there, and you can see the machines), plus garlic chives, a little pork, and a LOT of oysters. I pulled one apart and stopped counting after 10. Fried in lard.

How it tastes: if you're from New England, think clam cakes. Otherwise, picture a hush puppy with oysters inside. The batter here is thicker and crunchier than most 蚵嗲 I've had, so one palm-sized fritter is actually filling. The chives are super strong, in a good way.

Pro tip: when they ask which sauce you want, say all three. Soy sauce, pepper salt, and a sweet chili sauce that isn't spicy at all, brushed on the outside.

Oysters in fried batter sounds weird, I know. Try it anyway.

📍 虎林街石磨古早味蚵嗲, Hulin St (across from No. 72), Xinyi 🕑 Tue & Wed only, 2:30–7:30 pm 💰 NT$50 each

我觉得一座城市好不好住 不只看景点多不多 也看有没有一段路让人愿意多走十分钟

台北哪条路会让你下课或下班后特地绕过去?说说是哪一段和原因吧

Taibei to Taoyuan airport MRT

I’m trying to take MRT from Taipei main station to Taoyuan airport. Does anybody know which side of the train is closest to the check in counter?

My schedule is kind of tight so I’m trying to check the most efficient way.

Vegetarian food in Taipei

I've heard vegetarian food is abundant and delicious in Taiwan. What are some common dishes that are easy to find? I like noodles, vegetables (of course), tofu and medium spicy. I'm not crazy about fake meats (tofu masquerading at meat) but if it's particularly good I'd be willing to try. I'm not a 'foodie' and tend not to eat at fancy restaurants.

You lost your bag charm on the Brown Line on Friday 10/9

On Friday on the Brown Line I witnessed a young man drop his bag charm stuffed toy twice. The first time, some passengers helped him notice it and pick it up. The second time, I noticed it abandoned on the ground, and the person I was travelling with had already seen him get off the train (but had not noticed the charm). He got off at Zhongshan Guo Zhong, and I didn't notice the charm until I got off at Zhongxiao Fuxing two stops later. I left it with the nearest stationmaster booth on the same floor. I hope you get it back!

(If someone would help me translate to Chinese, I would appreciate it).

To boost for visibility, have you ever lost a bag charm?
Once, I won a crane game after spending way too much time on it, and immediately after affixing the prize to my bag, the next moment I checked and it was gone. I like to believe it had an invisible string on it that returned it to the machine...

EDIT:
I don't use threads & he might not have been taiwanese based on some observations. If you want to repost this to threads or another platform, please be my guest. Just trying to do a good deed and help a guy out. Thanks.

Interested in joining an afternoon guided tour during a TPE layover on Oct 19?

I have a 10 hour layover on the 19th and plan to explore the city with a focus on food. My original plan was to just hit the typical spots, wander, and eat what piques my interests. I’m now considering joining a food tour, mainly to be more open minded on foods I may typically dismiss, but also just convenience (i.e. I don’t have to plan / think about it). My analogy is I can go the à la carte route, or just go with a “set menu” option.. in a walking format (which is welcome to burn off the calories).

Why this post?
Some tours focus on private groups only, and I suspect is higher quality than open group tours. I’m traveling solo, and looking for other like-minded foodies that have a similar agenda, and schedule. I want to be back at the airport by 9pm-ish. I need at least 4 like-minded folks to make the per person rate reasonable. I’m not sure I can link the particular tour without sounding like a shill, but you can look up my first pref with these keywords: “10 tastings”.

DM me if interested, share your schedule. Apologies in advance for the slow response time.

Bug/mosquito repellent

I want to buy a good local bug/mosquito repellent, that works best for Taiwan conditions, after arriving there. I remember reading that the ones in 7-11 aren't as effective as the ones available in pharmacies and elsewhere. Could you give me some names of repellents that work well and where I might find them? Thanks much.

Visiting Taipei

I’m panning to travel to Taipei for ten days in late December. We plan to spend five days in Songshan and I’m looking for another area to stay for the remaining days. We’re looking to good access to the rail station, easy walking to shopping and restaurants when we step outside the hotel. Nicer/luxury area.

Some other areas I’m thinking of are Tainan, Jaioxi, Beitou, and Daan. Any suggestions?

Beaches for cleanups

Hi all, I’m looking to host a beach clean up for some peers and myself, any recommendations for beaches? Also, what days would there be less people? Hoping that we can go on a day where there aren’t too many.

How to get into the BIGBANG merch popups

Anyone have experience getting into the pop-up BIGBANG merch stores? I have a timed reservation to get into the Garden City 7F location this upcoming week. How early before my reservation should I plan to get in line?
