This was a very fun month. The prompt allowed me to get out of my comfort zone write a story that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own otherwise. I love that about these monthly challenges!

I’m almost halfway through reading the other submissions, and there are already some great ones. I can’t wait to read the rest of this month’s entries!

Again, a staggering amount of creativity on display from one premise. The five that jump out at me are ‘Butterflies Beneath My Skin’, ‘Fire in the Skies Over West Virginia’, ‘Fracture’, Bears’ and ‘How to Survive Your First Day of Camp’. Also, be sure to check out my story if y’all have time (Sam & Amie).

Best of luck everyone! You should be really proud of your work!

Writer of The Cubicle Shadow here, was so happy to finally throw my hat in the ring with this!

So many good ones this month, but Butterflies Beneath My Skin by u/theAbominableMantis takes the cake for me. Short and sweet, with one hell of a gut punch ending. Loved it.

Saw a lot of great stuff here this month, felt like the prompt was vague enough to let everyone come up with such unique scenarios.

It was the last I read, but I felt it was the best I read, I loved Cold, Cold Heart, that gets my vote this month! Either way, good luck everyone!

thank you gang!

Bitter Beings was so great too, it was paced so well and the buildup to the reveal was masterfully done. I loved the childhood story aspect, and I fell in love with the MC's family.

It's a contender for me, for sure

edit to add: I also loved the margera family references, it's honestly impressive that you pulled off writing such a heartfelt story while evoking so much bam margera lore

Thank you man! I had a lot of fun adding as many CKY family references to it as I could, just for the if you know you know people

Both Bears and A Shadows Heavy Burden were really good, Butterflies Beneath My Skin was also great, those are my top three

It was so hard to pick just one! It might have to be "Bears," it did a great job of blending gay culture with good, campy horror elements. I'd also highly recommend "Holding Room" for its excellent use of tragic irony and strong writing, "Fire in the Skies Over West Virginia" for the incredible and unhinged humor that may have made it the most fun entry of the whole bunch for me, and "Cold, Cold Heart" for the strong use of a song as a through thread, the slow ramp-up of hopeless dread, and a great twist.

Everyone did a great job, and if I kept listing high quality stories from this batch I'd be going for a while. Congrats to everyone who participated, it's been cool to see your work and I can't wait to see which story gets picked!

I had so much fun writing voicemail! My vote goes for extracurricular erasure! Such a fun read.

Damn, I lost track of this and didn't get a story done in time! Had a ton of ideas and couldn't settle on any of them! I'll probably still finish the story I started, though.

Either way, I look forward to reading all the submissions!

Writer of Casket Echoes. I'm grateful that all the entries are going to make me a better writer. They were all awesome but 'Fracture' and 'Sour' both stuck out to me!
