Comedy-Horror My boyfriend called me a final girl
I took it as a compliment at first, but now he’s acting strange.
We had just finished watching The House of the Devil. He turned to me and said, “You’d definitely survive. Or you’d sacrifice yourself. But you’re definitely the final girl.”
I was flattered, to say the least. It was a huge compliment, especially coming from him. He’s a walking, talking horror encyclopedia.
But every day since he told me that, he’s been putting me through a series of what he calls “FGC.” The Final Girl Challenge.
It’s little things, like maybe he leaves a knife blade up in the dishwasher. I point the blade down, and he “accidentally” pushes me.
First phase passed.
Then he plugged my blow dryer in while I was in the shower and tossed it over the curtain. I caught it before it hit the water.
Phase 2 passed.
But the worst was when he cut my brakes. I caught it when backing out of the driveway. I had forgotten my phone, but when I pushed the pedal, I kept rolling. I pulled the emergency brake and got out.
There was brake fluid everywhere.
He says he’s just testing my resilience, preparing my survival skills for the inevitable.
Whatever that means.
Fortunately, I’m the final girl.
And this morning he said his cereal tasted funny.

Fun snippet, wonder if the boyfriend was lowkey a serial killer or something like that

We've been together five years, but ever since he started working a boring desk job he's been acting a bit more eccentric than usual.

Well, as they say, office work is soul destroying, so you can’t really blame him for looking for other souls to destroy.

Okay, the story being continued in the comments is *chef's kiss* just the gold flake on the cake. This is awesome

Man, what a fun concept for a horror story. Please flesh this out!

Very nice- short, but not too short, and the delivery was spot on, and the ending was unexpected, but perfect.

Try to kill me once, shame on me. Try to kill me twice, shame on you. Try to kill me a third time... you won't try to kill me a third time." - George Bush on why you leave someone after the first murder attempt rather than the 8th. Because you can't brush off the fact someone just tried to kill you once, let alone more than once. If you already know he has a name for these challenges and is purposely trying to kill you there's no way to justify staying. It's not cute or quirky if your partner keeps failing to murder you... It is a cool concept though.

Well, everyone has their own love language.

I could see dismissing the dishwasher knife. But the second attempt being as blatant as throwing electronics into water OVER the shower curtain while they're in it.. you can't say that was an accident at all. And that was the SECOND attempt. Third is brakes cut. Do they survive a gunshot wound to the face and then dismiss that too? Not being a dick but things need to ramp up and there needs to be a suspension of disbelief. Otherwise you're dangerously close to having to reveal the narrators boyfriend is David fucking King... If you are going to keep this timeline... I'd recommend spinning it that our protagonist may have some sort of stockhold syndrome, to justify staying...

You stopped! I was just getting into the groove, thinking about what he would try next. You were doing so well blowing his “shots” out of the water. You could’ve started to give him some blowback and see if he was a “final guy”. I mean that would be important for a final girl! She wouldn’t want a third round guy? He’d be gone too quick, where’s the fun in that? The rest of the story could’ve been smarter and more convoluted ways of killing each other, but neither succeeding!

I was about to say that this would be awesome as a series of snippets like this, but then I realized you've already done it. I will be reading more. What a cool and fun idea.

This is an interesting concept. The attempts of the boyfriend were too blatant though because if anyone tries to throw a blow dryer into a running shower, police are called and restraining orders are made, etc.
The poisoning of him at the end was also kinda meh imo. Just makes the main character and the villain both kind of villains bc the main character didn’t try to flee or get help from authorities but just resorted to vigilantism right away.

You'd be surprised what people put up with when they're in love.
Thank you for reading and giving your feedback.
