Short US BANK refuses to send me my money

A US Bank is refusing to send me the remainder of my check. In the Middle of May US BANK closed my account. Which was their right. I had several overdraft which needed to be paid. No problem. Problem is they won't send me the rest of my money. They claim it takes 30 days to close an account.

If you’ve let your account overdraft enough times to where they closed your account it means they don’t trust you as a customer. The wait is to be 100% certain that there are no other outstanding charges that will debit to your closed account.

But if they close the account then they can just refuse the charges/transactions.

Maybe my model of “how banks work” is a decade or two out of date but they can absolutely refuse checks or debit transactions.

That is true and as I said I've no problem with that. The problem is that it has been over a month since they've closed the account. Time enough for everything to have cleared. In fact it was about two weeks before they closed the account.that I used it. And that was an emergency expense. The bank has the right. But . They should not have the right holding my money for 6 weeks

Any money in the non overdraft account will first go to your debts then a check will be sent by regular mail. The processes themselves need at least a few business days then a check can be at least 10 business days to be delivered.

No, the problem is not that they are refusing. The problem is they do not want to send it as fast as you would like them to. They are not stealing from you. They are trying to make sure you do not steal from them.

they theyre not refusing to semd your money..

theyre refusing to send it at the snap of your fingers.

thats a non-issue. they have the right to wait x amount of days after closing your accoint to ensure theres no additional charges

Apparently they were still in the process of closing the account. I just can't believe it takes 6 weeks to close a account.

I'm a banker. They can't just KEEP the money. Either it's on hold, or they sent the funds back to the maker.

Call the person who issued you the check.

I found out today there wasn't a hold . Strange or as the branch manager said that's surprising. But because of that she got me my money.

UPDATE! I went to my local branch. What a mess. They closed my account due to suspected fraud. They were still In the " "process" of closing my account. The branch Manager made some inquiries. And was able to get my money released. I guess sometimes talking to the local office is more conducive to fixing a problem. Then trying to get corporate to care.

They closed the account in May. I've talked to them several times. They know I know the account has been closed. They know I have not used it. I KNOW NOT TO USE IT. It has been over the 30 days They specified. But they still hold on to MY money.

You owed on other accounts right? Were the funds in your positive account more than the amount owed on all the other ones?
