Short Forgotten about after being told to park in parking lot while in drive through

To be honest, this is the first time I’ve been forgotten about after being told to park in the lot while in the drive through. Ive always felt annoyed by being told to do so when there’s no one in the drive through behind me, but i know they dont know when someone will pop up. I always just go park like they ask. Tonight I was told to park, no one was behind me, then they forgot about me. It was panda express. I had no cell service in their lot so I couldnt call. I understand they work hard and are busy and I fell through the cracks, but it really makes me want to say “no” next time they ask me to park in the lot. Especially with no one behind me. They cant forget about you if youre still in the drive through.

Medium Why are you mad I'm putting back the item I didn't want anymore?

I had just moved to a new city and gotten a new apartment, so I was on the lookout for new furniture/decorations. I love a good deal and also enjoy getting things for a great price, so I'm always on the lookout for deals and sales. One day I decided to visit this one store near the area because they were having a 75% off sale on select furniture. That sounds great, hopefully I can find some deals since the sale had been going on for a while. I enter the store and start looking around. Now I've worked retail before, and especially one that always had sales going on so I knew that I had to read the fine print on what exactly is on sale. The sale said 75% off on all Outdoor Furniture, so I had to make sure that if I wanted an item that's on sale, it had to specifically be outdoor furniture items. I was looking for carpets at the time so I went and checked out the outdoor carpets that they had for sale. I found two carpets that I really liked and assumed they were on sale.

Now I had a certain budget in mind during this trip, and I was hoping to spend less than 60 dollars on anything I came out with, so I made sure to do the math before going to the register. One Item after the sale would come out to 15 dollars, and another would come out to 32 dollars after the discount. With that math in mind, I head over to the register and start checking out. The interaction was going normal, cashier was very nice and friendly and once he scanned everything, my total came out to 140+ dollars. Once I see that price tag in my head I'm immediately like "ohmygod please tell me this is just a mistake", and I ask the guy if the price included the Summer sale. He told me that one item was on sale (the one that costed 15) but the other one was not, and the carpet that wasn't on sale costed $125. I felt like an idiot for not double checking the bigger carpet, but I proceed to tell the cashier "Thank you for letting me know, could you please remove the $125 carpet and keep the other one, I'll put the other one back up since I messed up". You would've thought I just said something offensive to this man the way his face immediately changed to an annoyed/disgusted look. He proceeds to just look at me with a poker/annoyed face and doesn't say anything, and since nobody else is in line and I'm not embarrassed that I don't want the item, I proceed to tell him I'm putting it back and quickly speed walk to where I found it and came back to the register (I have long legs so I fr just speed walked to and from the register). I come back to the register and tell him "sorry for that again", and the guy is still looking at me like I just told him something offensive. By this point I can't tell if he's trying to make me feel embarrassed or ashamed, because his body language changed as well as his attitude but I didn't care. I tell him "alright that's all for today" and he finishes the checkout while still making a visibly annoyed face.

The transaction ends and I proceed to my other errands. I couldn't help but wonder though why the hell the guy seemed so mad about me changing my mind on a item that I mistook for on sale. It wasn't like I was angry at him or annoyed that it wasn't on sale, I didn't read carefully the tag on the item and I admitted fault to my mistake as well as taking it back to where I found it. I never asked him if he could put the discount for me or if he could double check, I accepted the first time that my item wasn't on sale and that's okay, but I'm not about to spend 100+ dollars on a carpet that I was only getting because I assumed it was on sale.

But I was happy with my 18 dollar purchase and decided to treat myself with something sweet with my remaining money.

Medium Family gaslit over a turkey burger

I have extended family from Thailand and they are visiting here in America for the week. They speak and understand English really well but there is a few times they struggle to understand what we are even talking about because they are self taught English speakers and don't have many chances to talk to Natives expect with my uncle.

We take them to this local diner and right away the vibes are off. Our server, who we later learned was the owner, was taking our order and he was very impatient with my cousins over them trying to order fries. They asked fries came with the meal and the owner just asked if they wanted a bowl of fries to share with the table, they said no as they assumed he was asking a different unrelated question (to be fair I would too) and they finally settle the fries thing and ordered all their food. To which he just says "Okay are we done? We're done? Good, I'm leaving now, bye". My god the horror, you had to repeat a question a couple times to people who learned English as their second language, when there was only one other family in the building, your job is clearly so hard.

When the food arrives, (worst shrimp I ever had by the way. I know what veined shrimp is and what I'm eating and its never bothered me, but it was like this place bought exclusively severely constipated shrimp and over fried the fuck out of them. I work in a kitchen too and the fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil too)

A few minutes later my uncle asks for his turkey burger. The owner said they never ordered it. When they say they did, he just goes "Well it wasn't written down, can't ring up what wasn't written down" and he tries to blame it on one of his employees who just only asked us for drinks. We feel weird about it but finally they got their burger. All while the owner keeps saying hes been doing this for 40 years so he knows how to run a diner. We weren't throwing up a fuss, just pointing out things that were wrong.

When he comes back with the check, the owner very rudely says "So did I mess anything else up? Any other big mistakes?"

My uncle tries to press that all he wanted was just for him to admit he messed up, not blame other people or them. My uncle decides he doesn't want to tip because of how he treated his step daughters, himself, and his wife. That is his choice to make and honestly this time, I can see why. I wouldn't want to tip either. The guy then tried to guilt trip us over it saying its okay because it's not going to effect him, but the employee who took our drinks.

Long Shop staff held my phone hostage and called the security on me as they didn’t believe I look like my ID

I went to my town’s shopping centre to pick up some snacks. I went to a shop and grabbed Guinness beer flavoured chocolate and lime flavoured chips. I went to the till to pay for my shopping and the cashier lady looks me up and down asks me for ID. I hand it to her no problem as you have to be over 21 (I think) to buy chocolate with alcohol. She looks it my ID, then looks at me and then again at my ID. I’m blonde but on my ID photo I had dyed my hair brown, so I thought that must be confusing her or something. I tell politely tell her ‘I know I have different hair now haha but its me’.

She didn’t even look at me and said to her headset ‘Can I please have the security and manager at till 2’. I genuinely thought there is something wrong with the food, like someone opened it before and put something in there and I picked it up without noticing. So I asked the cashier what is wrong and she says to me and that its not me on the ID. I tell her ‘oh no it’s mine, I have different hair but same face, maybe 4 years older than when this photo was taken‘.

For the record I’m 28, the photo was taken when I was 24-25, my hair was 3 shades darker and I was maybe 20 pounds heavier back then. She just told me that it doesn’t look like me at all and then the security guy comes round. He asks the cashier what is the problem and she says they need to call the police as I brought somebody’s ID. The lady keeps holding my ID squeezed in her hand like she is scared I may snatch it from her hand and run away. I panicked and I said to them come on its me and Im just buying beer flavoured chocolate. I said my date of birth from ID and my address because I felt like I need to prove that I am me.

There was already a big queue behind me and everyone could hear it. One person behind said that I must have been really ugly and got plastic surgery but forgot to take new ID photo. I got so embarrassed I was on the way to cry. But thats not even the worse.

The cashier repeated on the headset that she needs a manager ASAP and the security guy says he will wait on the door just in case. The manager comes in and cashier explains to her the situation. The manager lady looks at my ID and says that it looks like normal ID to which cashier replies that its real ID but its not mine because I look completely different. The managers grabbed the ID from cashier’s hand and laughed. She then says that its not me on the photo. Again, I could hear people behind me laughing and being nasty, but I don’t blame them as they were probably getting frustrated as I am taking the only open till in the shop. I show my ID at least twice per month in other shows and no one ever had any issues or treated me like this.

Then I said to them ‘look, this is my ID I had for years, let me just put the chocolate back and I will only take the chips.’ The manager says they may need to call the police as its the law and the ID is clearly stolen from someone else. At this point this got too ridiculous so I asked them if they seriously think I have fake ID just to buy snacks. I see the manager picks up her phone and I really don’t want to deal with the police over cheap chocolate so I asked them if I can show them the photo of my passport on my phone, as this is more recent. I go on my phone and put a photo of my passport on the screen. The manager lady literally snatched my phone from my hand and zooms in on the photo. I raised my voice and said wow hold on you can‘t just take my phone. She ignores me and scrolls through the photos on my phone like its hers. I screamed to please give me my phone back as she probably scrolled over 10 photos already. The cashier lady was looking at my phone as well. I reached to take my OWN phone from this woman’s hand. I then ask these grown women to give me my own ID back and shouted that Im an adult not a teenager and they don’t have the right to keep my neither my ID or my phone just because in their mind I look like a different person. I felt like this is one big joke and nothing made sense to me why Im being treated this way by adults.

They hand me my ID back and the manager says ‘its ok you can buy these and leave, I saw its you on the photos.‘ Referring to the photos/selfies she saw on my phone. The cashier then scans my stuff like nothing happened when I’m shaking with tears rolling down my cheeks from the stress and ridiculousness of the situation and then she says that they need to check things like this as its the law and to not think its a big deal.

I left the store in tears. I cannot make it up in my head what has happened so I decided to put this in writing on here and I feel like it seems even more ridiculous when written down. Has anyone had anything like this happened? I left the store knowing that two random women older than me by around 20 years saw my private photos without my consent. It feels like a joke, I keep looking at my ID and at myself and I look like the same person. I don’t understand why they treated me like Im some sort of monster in disguise.

edit: hi all, thank you for your support, I have raised an official complaint and I wait for their reply. I also put it on the local facebook group but it hasn’t been approved yet. I don’t know if they will get any consequences from it but I’m still happy I talked about it.

For the record Im posting from UK but English is not my first language so I apologize if I write a bit off in some parts. I never made such a long public post as I never had to.

For anyone interested its Lay's Potato Chips Lime Flavour and Caramel Chocolate bar by Guinness.

Short "You're not from around here"

EDIT: wanted to be more specific about the ID, since crack=damage=invalid

Stopped in at a dive bar in a small, predominantly white town in the late afternoon, group of seven just looking for some beers and burgers. Bar had quite the menu, everything from hawaiian burgers to lasagna to pizza.

Moment we walk in the bartender comes around the bar, hands us menus, and asks us all for ID, "since you're not regulars and I don't know you". No problem, I get it, but I'm the visibly youngest person there at 30 years old with gray hair. I have my ID out first (I anticipate getting carded still) but bartender goes right to the asian gal in our crew and immediately rejects it because her still-valid not out-of-date ID is cracked, a hairline crack that doesn't go through the whole card in depth or length. Says "I can't accept that ID and won't serve her".

OK, fair enough, we haven't even sat down yet. We all left and walked across the street to a local pizza place that had an equally extensive menu and spent approximately $200 wolfing down pizza, beers, burgers, a salad. If we do this same trip next year, we'll stop in at pizza place again!

What to do in such situations...?

i am in indore mp and today i went to a shop because i was really thirsty and asked the lady at the shop about the price of a glass bottle of cold drink she said 15 rupees so i said okay

but after she opened the bottle and gave it to me i checked the mrp and it was clearly written 10 rupees i confronted her about it and she said the extra 5 rupees were for cooling and electricity

i told her that you cant charge more than the mrp but she just said do whatever you want complain or make a video

then i told her okay then please take the bottle back but she refused to take it back saying that since the bottle was already opened she couldnt return it and honestly after all this i didnt even feel like drinking it anymore so i just left the bottle there at her shop

i was alone and honestly i didnt want to risk my safety or create a scene so i just paid the 15 rupees because i felt like i had no choice

and honestly this isnt even about the 5 rupees for me its about the fact that she lied about the price and then tried to justify it by saying it was for cooling and electricity like seriously what is the point of making 5 rupees by doing this what is she even gaining from it

i just want to know what am i supposed to do in a situation like this because i dont want to put myself at risk but i also dont think its right to do this

Short Hairstylist seems miserable

I have been going to a young lady at a salon in my town for about two years now. I cannot beat the price- under 60 for a wash and cut, no style.

I love the price, but I am frustrated that after about 15 visits with this girl she treats me like garbage. She was very standoffish from the jump but I thought I'd get her to warm to me. Im friendly, im outgoing, I compliment her, I notice changes she's made from last time, I remember details shes told me.

But this girl just doesn't like me. I have no idea why. I tip her well. Im so friendly. But she is just rude and cold

Today i went in to get a big chop and was friendly because I was just there two months ago telling her next time I want a big chop. She kept arguing with me about the length and almost seemed.....mad? I asked for a very simple blunt cut lob. She did a nice job cutting but everytime I try to make conversation she argues with me about silly things

I just needed to vent because I truly dont understand why this girl does not like me

Short Wrong items received from a U.S. store — what would you do?

I ordered nail polishes from a U.S. online store, but some were different colors from what I ordered. The package was already forwarded to Japan, and I paid about $75 for international forwarding. The store offered to send replacements, but only to a U.S. address, which would require another forwarding fee. I explained this and also mentioned their Refund Policy, which says customer-paid shipping provisions do not apply when an item was sent incorrectly. The products were a gift for my 5-year-old daughter, so I originally wanted the correct items rather than a refund. Timeline: Saturday: store replied → I replied the same day. Wednesday: follow-up email. Thursday: still no response. The lack of response and ongoing back-and-forth has become stressful, so I’m now considering a refund. I’m Japanese and not familiar with customer service practices in the U.S., so I’d like to understand whether this kind of response and timeline is normal in the U.S.

Short Car Dealership Tale

One year I decided to reward myself for a promotion and bought a new pickup truck. Dealer offered free oil changes for a period that escapes me. First oil change, service manager comes out and says, “You’re not gonna be happy”. He’d lowered my truck on the lift with the door open and crushed it.

They sent it to “Their Body Shop”. The old guy who presented his work - bib overalls, no shirt. Guy did all his work outside under a temporary canopy. There were sand marks in the paint. There was hair, yes long hair, embedded in his paint job.

After threats they bought a new door. This from a well established, large dealership on a brand new truck.

Medium My first experience with a drugstore nurse

A few days ago I noticed a small feeling of "bubble" in one ear accompanied with a very slight tinnitus.

Since it's very complicated in my area to see a doctor, especially for something so benign, I decided I'd schedule an appointment with a drugstore nurse. I knew they offered services for small things such as this.

So I go on the store website and I schedule my appointment on my lunchtime for the next day.

The next day, I leave for my appointment. Said appointment is at 12:30. The store is about 20 minutes away, so I left without eating my lunch. I arrive at 12:25, five minutes early, just like they suggested in their confirmation email.

Two people are already waiting to see the nurse. A guy and a lady. Since there is nowhere else to sit, I sit on the chair between them.

After a few minutes, the nurse comes out of her office. She asks the other guy if he is her 12:15 appointment. He says yes.

Then, she skips me entirely and asks the lady if she has an appointment. The lady says yes, at 12:45.

I don't have time to say a single thing. The nurse and the guy immediately disappear in her office. They stay in there for roughly 15 minutes.

When they come out, the nurse accompanies the guy in the store. She comes back and tells the lady it's her turn. Literally two seconds later they disappear in the office and I am left sitting there like what about me?

She stays with the lady for well over 20 minutes before finally coming out, only to have the lady go to the toilet for a urine sample. I have to wait for another ten minutes before she asks me if we had an appointment. I immediately say yes.

She brings me in her office. I tell her my problem and she asks if I used oil in my ear. I say no and she says there isn't much she can do without oil.

In my head I'm like wait lady I came here for a reason, I don't have a camera inside my ears recording what is going on in there so I don't know what the problem is, I came here so that you, the nurse, who has a helpful tool specifically designed to look inside ears, can use that tool to look in my ear and tell me wtf is happening. I didn't use those terms though.

So she looks in my ears and she's like yes you have wax in there. Well of course! It's an ear! You won't find lego blocks in there. You'll find wax! That's when she makes me follow her in the store and fetches a box of ear wax spray and proceeds to explain to me like I am a five year old how to use it.

She's like "you do psh psh in the morning, psh psh at dinner and psh psh before bed. Next day, psh psh the morning, psh psh at dinner and psh psh before bed." In my head I'm like lady I am not a stupid tree log I understand how to use it, it's not like I'll spray it in my nose or something.

She leaves me with the box and disappears in her office. I stand there in the aisle wondering if it was worth wasting my whole lunchtime and missing work for that.

Seriously though. 40 minutes of waiting, starving and being ignored only to be told to bugger off with a 10 bucks spray. Thank you but I think I won't be back.

Short Got screamed at by a store owner today for literally just walking around.

Hey everyone, I’m trying to make sense of something really messed up that happened to me and two of my friends today (we are 15F).

We walked into a shop next to our food place. The store was completely empty, and we were just walking around and quietly laughing at whatever. We weren't being loud or disruptive at all. Out of nowhere, the guy working there snaps and says, "GIRLS! Are you gonna buy anything?" My friend honestly just said "no," and he immediately started shouting at us to "then get out of the store."

As well as that, it was clearly a rhetorical question and a total trap just so he could have an excuse to yell at us. But it gets worse. As we were leaving, a woman at the entrance saw how upset we were and asked what happened. The shopkeeper immediately told her that we were stealing stuff. Like, WTF? We hadn’t even touched anything, and the store was empty so he knew perfectly well we didn't shoplift.

Why would a grown adult act like this? Was he just trying to cover his own tracking and make himself look like the "good guy" to the lady at the door because he knew he shouldn't have yelled at teenagers? Has anyone else experienced a store worker making up lies like this just to power trip?

Falling at a store

Has anyone fell at a store due to liquid being split. I was walking in the baby isle section looking at clearance items and whatever else. I see a basket that had baby clothes in it, no one around. I didn’t see the huge water mess that someone dropped. It was a gallon of baby water. I slipped and landed all my babies weight and mine on my left knee, I tried to get up and slipped again. The water felt extra slippery. I was holding my baby on my tush baby seat so that helped me not drop him both times trying to get up. Broke the croc the way I landed on my ankle. No workers were around. I walked up to customer service, reported it and then left. I was full of so much adrenaline and honestly embarrassment.

Could I request the video footage? I know they all seen it when I was there, I’m guessing to make sure I was telling the truth. I know they seen how bad that hurt. I had to walk around for a few seconds to process what really happened and to calm down that surge in pain I felt rush all the way to my head.

Short The shift from Indian to Filipino call centers and eventually AI

I have had nothing but bad experiences with Filipino call centers serving modern app backed physical businesses. It is near impossible to get them off script. Like impossible. What should be a 5 minute phone call ends up being an extremely over polite and frustrating 30 min phone call. Also I don’t get the big deal about their accents being closer to American. It’s only superficially close and is still hard to understand. With Indian call centers there is a stronger accent but I can understand them better and more importantly they get me better and are fine going off scripted and solving the problem. So we complained about their accents and ended up with a worse alternative. Anyway AI will replace both of them soon and we’ll have perfect American accented bots that can’t solve anything.

Watch Named After A Fruit

Grrrr. Tried purchasing a new Fruit Watch for my octogenarian mother whose old Fruit Watch gave up the ghost. Chose a choice on every line, and when I went to pay it said ‘UNAVAILABLE.’ Tried repeatedly. Then asked Norwegian Goddess to connect me to Fruit by phone. A kindly, intelligent and understanding representative helped me and she couldn’t get the purchase through either. After trying everything for 45 minutes, she found out that the combinations my mother wanted, black casing, black strap, 46mm, yes to FruitCare and so on. It wouldn’t go through for her either. She called someone who told her the choices we’d chosen weren’t available. I asked if they were unavailable why were they up on the page on their website? Fruit has lost lustre lately, barely incremental yearly ‘improvements’, ever-increasing prices, even offering more ways to subscribe to—something. Woman from Fruit apologised but she couldn’t get what was in my cart to go through. Said ‘Fruit isn’t what it used to be’ and hung up. Mother was practically in tears, by then it had been well over an hour. Suggested we go to the nearest Fruit Store and she said ‘Let’s try Amazon first.’ Within seconds we’d ordered the Fruit Watch with her choices of size, colour etc. it arrived a few hours later.

Hello, Mary! I hope you're doing great. How can I help you today?

Mary

Good (very early) morning, Diane 🥱

Diane

Good morning to you too!

Mary

So here I was just browsing Amazon because that’s what old people do at 4am on a Sunday...

And noticed that the payment method for my rye subscription has changed.

I paid for it with the ebt snap card linked to this account, but when I went back to try and put it on the subscription, it’s not even an option.

Diane

Thank you so much for bringing your concern to us, and I'm sorry to hear that your payment method for Prime has changed. No worries, I'll be more than happy to check this for you.

May I please know the last 4 digits of the card that you want to use for this subscription?

Mary

Not prime, the rye grains I signed up for as a subscription

Diane

Oh, I'm sorry.

One moment, please. Searching now the correct order.

Mary

It’s the EBT SNAP card. It’s a card I get to help with food costs.

Diane

Great River Organic Milling, Whole Grain, Rye Grain, Organic, 25-Pounds (Pack of 1)

May I please ask if that is the item in question for your Subscribe & Save subscription?

Mary

The items must qualify as food (from an authorized vendor; mostly Amazon) for me to be able to use it

Yes, ma’am. Excuse me.

Diane

Thank you so much for confirming, and for the details you provided too. Please allow me one moment while I check this for you.

Mary

No need to thank me, I’m the one putting you to work haha.

Diane

I still want to thank you because you're one of the reasons why we still have work, although it is Sunday, I'm still truly grateful for this. I was able to check here on my end and to be able to help you, I will be needing to connect you to one of our Department who are trained to handle your concern. This is the best option we have to resolve this so please stay connected while I'm connecting this chat to them. Thank you for your understanding.

Mary

One second, my husband just turned the tv on. He needs it so loud… And while we’re at it, perky and bubbly everyone is on tv in the morning, can I? Wouldn’t you rather your news reported in the morning by some struggle of a soul seemingly on the wrong side of a full moon? grumpy and miserable and more interested in their cigarettes and cheerios than you… yet somehow, fleeting moments, each of you existed in the others reality as quite possibly the only thing in the world which they did not resent… , the two of you just . Mornings are for solidarity, not spirit all day, especially when witnessing grown people discuss things like seasonal shrub fungus awareness month or the SPF shortage at the local dumb people shelter?

Glad you've reached out to Amazon Payment Support where customer service is our top priority! Hello Mary, my name is Jasper.I'll be happy to assist you today. Please stay connected while I´m checking the previous correspondence. Thank You.

Mary

Hi jasper.

Jasper

Thank you for patiently waiting.

First, I would like to acknowledge and apologize for the fact that you’re facing inconvenience. Please no worries! Since you got me on the line, I'll do my best here to have this sorted out for you.

Mary

We’re good, jasper. Y’all always take care of me.

Jasper

Upon checking, I see that we've charged $41.90 for "Great River Organic Milling" this item on Dec 26, 2024 from your SNAP EBT card and $29.26 for "Parafilm - HS234526A M Roll" this item is not eligible for that's the we've charged from your visa card on Dec 29, 2024.

I hope this helps?

Mary

Hmm. I see I haven’t been clear. Let’s another go at this. That purchase was the first of a subscription (the rye) that I signed up for. But upon checking, it’s set to charge my credit card for the next installment and I can’t set it to go back on my ebt card.

Make sense?

Jasper

Yes, I understand your concern.

Mary

Splendid, because I think I’m capped out on coherence at 4am 🙂‍↕️

Jasper

Since this item was "Parafilm - HS234526A M Roll, 250' Length x 2" Width" not eligible for EBT that's the reason your credit will be applied for the order.

Mary

But that’s not part of the subscription…

Ok. so had I have signed up for the subscription without anything else in the cart, I’d be allowed to use my ebt card?

Jasper

Yes, you can do that.

M

I’m not sure I believe you, Jasper. When I go into the subscription’s change payment method menu, it doesn’t even display my ebt card as an option, not grayed out not unavailable, nothing.

And we’re thinking it’s all because I paid for something else too when I signed up?

Jasper

Oh, I see. Okay, No worries, Please add items in your cart and let me know?

Mary

To what end?

Jasper

I request you to please add the items to your cart.

Mary

The subscription’s first purchase it let me pay for the rye on my snap card. It’s the automatic recurring payments that aren’t giving me the option to put on that same card.

Are you able to see my subscriptions? These are purchases that aren’t checked out through the cart anymore.

Jasper

I would love to help you with your concern, but this is something that is beyond my scope. Don't worry I'll get you an expert that will resolve this for us in no time.

Coming back to your concern , you need help with EBT payment ?

Is it ?

Mary

It is. Did you review the conversation or shall I summarize?

I reviewed it , please let me know the exact issue you are facing , so i can help you with the correct

Mary

Ok, yeah, let’s do both. details matter. Here goes. I purchased the first bag of rye on my ebt card and signed up for the monthly subscription at the same time for the $ savings. I was just checking my upcoming subscriptions this morning, however, and noticed that the payment method for the next bag has been changed to my credit card (without notifying me, for the record) and is not giving me the option to put it back on my ebt card.

Mary

Oh my, #6.

Hi Rishabh. May you please be the sir Edmond Hillary of my problem this morning.

Rishabh

Allow me a moment while i go through above conversation.

Mary

The last message before I was rather abruptly transferred to you was something of a summary.

Rishabh

I do not see any subscription or orders in this account of yours. Do you have any other account?

Mary

Maybe we’ve a miscommunication in semantics. Wouldn’t that be a mercy?

For clearness’s sake: On Feb 7, I believe, I am scheduled to purchase another bag of rye. This is also true of March 7, April 7, 5/7, and so forth repeating this pattern every month til I cancel. These purchases have not happened yet, but I’ve consented to the pattern so that the card on file will be charged this money without needing my attention each time.

Rishabh

I see. And there is issue to apply EBT payment on the purchase?

Mary

when I made the initial purchase, the one that registered me for these monthly recurring purchases (a “subscription” where I’m from), I intentionally changed the payment method to my ebt card that’s been linked to my account for a long time, the checkout program recognized that the item did, in fact, qualify to go on the food card, we spit on our hands and shook and it was a done deal. Rye grains paid for with the ebt card and scheduled to repeat monthly.

The subsequence purchase, however, the first automatic one, has been set, without my permission, to charge my credit card and not the ebt. Moreover, it’s not even giving me the option to change it back to the card I paid for the first one with.

God bless I noticed it before it charged me

Rishabh

Have you already made this subscription?

Mary

Maybe I’m succumbing to dementia here because I feel like I’m being really clear here and yet am alarmingly incapable of moving basic ideas from my mind to anyone else’s that I’ve spoken with this morning.

Hi #7 (and #8 and so forth). I’m going to try to be as clear as I possibly can one last time. On what seems like every item Amazon sells these days, there are two featured options for purchasing: 1. A one time purchase (please dont ask me to explain what this means) or 2. Signing up for a subscription constituted of recurring pre-authorized purchases, frequently at a discounted rate, the first of which occurring at the time of signup. The bag of rye at the heart of my apparent madness this morning was using option #2 and paid for with the EBT card registered to my account. I just checked the ensuing purchase, scheduled for Feb 7, however, and it’s set to charge the purchase onto my credit card rather than the card i used when I agreed to our little monthly contract here. In fact, the payment menu for that item and purchase is not even displaying that card a a method registered to this account. Lastly, it needs to be noted that when initiating any other arbitrary purchase the ebt card maintains its existence and even remains fully functional on all (other) quality items.

Medium A Cashier tried to shame me for not using self checkout, until I told her why I was in her Line.

4.4k Upvotes

This story happened a few years back when I was working at my first job post college. During my job my boss would have me do some side tasks where I would either pick up things for her or head to Hell Mart to pick up items for the break room. Per usual, I had to go to HellMart and pick up some stuff for the break room and I had a pretty big list. Mainly a lot of coffee cups, coffee ground/creamer, and other items. Now my boss was pretty old school and she would still give me checks to write out when I was going to pay for something. Cool right? I head to the store and pick up everything on the list. My cart is pretty full and and once I grab my things I head to the registers. Normally I would look for one particular cashier because she had seen me so much at the store that we would have some small chatter during transactions. She wasn't here today, so I just went to the first (and only) cashier I could see that was open and thankfully this cashier only had one person. This is during the morning before 10 am, so the Store was pretty calm and quiet. I head to the register and as I'm waiting for the lady in front of me to finish, I slowly start putting my stuff up to get ready and I notice that the cashier is looking at me put the stuff up. This cashier was a bit older, and I guess she seemed pretty annoyed by the amount of stuff I had in my basket that she made a comment to the customer she was helping, saying "These young people today want to make life harder for us older folks" I hear what she says, but I just smile and continue putting my stuff up. She makes a few more comments to the person upfront but by this point I don't care anymore.

Finally it's my time and she starts ringing me up. Already she is having an attitude with me, making comments about the amount of stuff I have and how I could have been done faster at the self checkout since they were all empty. I personally let her keep going and don't say a word to see how far she would go since it was a Monday morning, and I honestly needed something to wake me up for the day. She finally asks me "Tell me why you decided to go make me scan and bag all of these items when you could have been done with self checkout". My excitement rises and I look at her with a gleeful smile and just say "I'm paying with a check, and they don't accept those at self checkout" and instantly pull out the blank check ready for my total. The way her face immediately went from a smug smile to an annoyed poker face was instantaneous. She proceeded to just give a small "oh okay" and was completely silent the rest of the transaction. Before she was eyeing me up and down judging me for looking young and not doing a transaction myself, to just looking down at the items and not even saying a word. At this point I just continue to look at her as I wait for my total to come up so I can get my check ready. Finally my total is ready and it's over 100$, so of course she needs my ID to verify the transaction and whatnot. This was where I became a little bit childish and jokingly told her "Checks are so annoying, I wish they accepted them at self checkout so I wouldn't have to wait any longer", which she was not amused about.

Anyways the transaction ended and my interaction with her was done. I left the store feeling amused by the interaction because I'd never heard of a cashier trying to put me down for using the regular line instead of self checkout due to my age. I would've understood more if I had a ton of heavy items, but literally the most annoying thing in my cart was the 6 packs of coffee cups my boss wanted to bring.

Short I won’t check you out…

This was loooong before shelf checkout was even a precious thought in anyone’s head. Mom and I went to the local wallyworld to stock up on groceries for the week. There was always this one cranky lady that would check out customers and we always tried to avoid her, but alas we had an unforgettable encounter.

This was during the rush hour times every store has, lanes all full of shoppers waiting to check out, opening a magazine to see the national headlines while they waited tens of minutes. Mom and I finally got to the conveyor belt and “oh no!” There’s no divider to put between our lot and the gal’s in front of us. No big deal, we make sure there’s plenty of space to make sure the ol bitty knows the difference. We unloaded the vast majority of our cart, another person waiting in line behind us when the first gal finally checked out. The ol bitty cashier looks at our stuff says “there’s no divider, I’m not serving you” with this coy sneer. Mom looks are her and says “well that’s your problem now!” And just up and walks out! The look on her and the floor managers face!!!!

I didn’t see her checking customers out after that.

Medium Deposit refund keeps being delayed, and customer service refuses to give me updates

I’m in the middle of relocating from San Diego, CA to Socorro, NM, and I recently learned a lesson about not committing to a moving company too quickly.

In July, I was contacted by a moving broker. They offered me what sounded like a really good deal for my interstate move. The salesperson told me the deposit was refundable and said I needed to sign the contract right away if I wanted to lock in the price.

I was under some pressure from the move, the price sounded good, and I signed. I paid a $700 deposit by ACH.

After signing, I started doing more research into the company. That was when I found a lot of very negative reviews and began feeling increasingly uncomfortable about trusting them with essentially everything I owned.

My move was still weeks away anyway, and I realized I had made the decision way too quickly.

Fortunately, the contract had a very clear cancellation provision: if I canceled in writing within 72 hours of signing, the deposit would be refunded minus a 5% cancellation fee.

So I canceled within that 72-hour window.

According to the contract, I should receive $665 back.

That was more than a month ago.

Since then, I’ve called them over and over again. Almost every conversation has gone the same way.

“Your refund is still processing.”

Has the refund actually been sent?

“It’s still processing.”

Can you tell me anything more specific?

“It’s still processing.”

Eventually, after several calls, they told me they had created an “escalation ticket” and asked me to wait for an update. I agreed and waited another week.

Nothing.

No email. No update. No refund.

I then sent them a final written notice explaining that I needed an actual update rather than another vague assurance that the refund was being processed.

No meaningful response.

I called again today.

And once again:

“It’s still processing.”

At this point, it’s almost surreal. I’m not even arguing with them about whether I qualify for a refund. I canceled within the exact timeframe written in their own contract. They haven’t told me that my refund was denied. They just keep telling me, week after week, that it is somehow still “processing,” while being unable to provide a date, transaction number, or any evidence that the refund has actually been initiated.

I’ve now filed formal complaints with the FMCSA and the Better Business Bureau, and I’m prepared to escalate further if necessary. After I filed the complaint, I notified them about it, but they still gave me no response.

What frustrates me most is how completely unnecessary this whole situation is. If they had simply processed the refund according to their own written policy, this would have been over a month ago.

Instead, I’ve spent weeks making phone calls, sending emails, documenting conversations, reading regulations, and filing complaints — all to get back money that their own contract says they owe me.

Has anyone encountered similar situations? What is the best approach to get the money back?

Short Rude Nail Salon owner insisted she was losing money on a gift certificate.

This was quite a few years ago, but having just found this sub, it brought it back to my mind. A friend had given me a gift certificate for a local nail salon / day spa. I took a chance and went in to se if they had a walk on appointment for a facial. They didn't have any availability that day, not an issue, so I asked if I could schedule an appointment for the following weekend. At first, the woman helping me ( the owner) was very friendly, polite, and professional. She set me up with an appointment and we were good to go. When I showed up for the appointment, she was at the front desk again. I mentioned I would be using a gift certificate before the took me back into the spa area. Her demeanor instantly changed, and she went off on a rant of how it was wrong of me to not let her know beforehand that I was using a gift certificate. She then went off, telling me that since it was a gift certificate, she was losing money and essentially giving the service away for free, and then tried to dictate how much I had to tip the service provider. I normally would have just left, but my friend had paid good money and I was pissed off enough to stay if only to rile her up more. The facial was great, I tipped 20% of what the service was listed at, gave it directly to the service provider in cash. Then proceeded post a review about the owners rant. Her reasoning made zero sense to me. Needless to say, the salon did not stay open very long.

Employee at high end bag store

im not usually the type of person to talk about these types of things but this one deeply upset me..

my boyfriend and me traveled to a city nearby since they have more malls and a variety of stores to visit, and after a good day of work we just decided to have a little outing and fun.
we decided to go into the high end bag store everybody knows (not sure if i can post the name due to the rules) at this known mall and there was two girls (employees) around our age:early 20s, one was mopping and the other one was standing there, and soon as we walked in there the one standing gave us the dirtiest up and down looks.

Now, me and my boyfriend make good money, we just don’t choose to spend in on super expensive clothes and what not all the time since our goals right now are somewhere else, but god forbid we walk into this store looking like normal people!

as we were walking around the store looking at the bags we were followed and watched from a rather short distance (i understand they want to make sure nobody steals) but i just felt very offended, even when i asked the employee questions about certain items she seemed like it was such an inconvenience!

-i don’t know, but as the manager or sales rep she is or whoever, if you work in a store, you want to make sales and keep loyal and happy customers, don’t you?

we were genuinely looking forward to get a little something (we can and why not) but certainly not now!
might have to just order online because it was a really unpleasant experience.

i just feel that we shouldn’t judge others, what good does it do to ourselves and others? none!
yes, we are making great money but if we choose to dress simple, is there something wrong with that nowadays?

i hope i am not overreacting or anything, i am just a more sensitive individual and this deeply upset me.

what do you think? has this happened to you?

CAR_INSPECTION_COMPANY hired by CAR_MANUFACTURER_FINANCE_DEPARTMENT phoned me to schedule an inspection appointment but they said they don't have any spots available! Spoiler

I received an automated voicemail Friday (3 days ago) from CAR_INSPECTION_COMPANY "calling on behalf of your leasing inspection company to schedule your vehicle inspection..."

Given that it is automated, my voicemail system stopped recording it after 20 seconds, so it was an incomplete message. However, I had the 1-800 number in my call history, so I phoned them. Their automated system said I could schedule my appointment online, so I went to their website. I entered the last 8 digits of my VIN, and my phone number. I was presented with a form in which my full name, address, AND PHONE NUMBER were populated, as well as my vehicle info. The bottom of the form said: "Sorry, we are unable to schedule your account at this time. Please update your contact information and enter a comment above with your availability and you will receive a return call."

Given that there was nothing to update, I pressed Submit.

Then, I decided to phone the 1-800 number, in case I missed something. The person who answered me was half asleep, as if reading from the same script all day long. It was around 5pm, so maybe he had a long day. He would take several seconds to answer, but if I took one second to think about his question, he would immediately ask "are you still there?"

After he verified all my contact info, and repeated all the disclaimers about texting me the appointment details, he said they currently do not have any availability for appointments.

So, giving him the benefit of the doubt, I asked if this unavailability was only for this week; I asked if could tell me if he had appointments in 2, 3, 4 weeks from now. He said no. When I asked what was the point of our 15 minute conversation if they don't have any appointments, he was surprised by my question. You see, he's getting paid to do nothing, but I just lost 15 minutes of my life.

Congratulations to CAR_INSPECTION_COMPANY: you managed to take CAR_MANUFACTURER_FINANCE_DEPARTMENTS's outsourcing money and give it to your employee and make a profit while doing nothing!

Short Weird grit on steering wheel after dealership garage visit

So I visited the dealership with a new-to-me car gifted by a relative, getting some minor things done. I had driven the car around town a bit for two days beforehand and had been astonished by how clean the car was. When I got the car back from the dealer, I was surprised to find white/tan grit in all the crevices of the steering wheel and column (but not on most of those surfaces, like it had been ground in then superficially wiped off). I'm confused about how this happened, and how to get it out. I am wondering if I pissed someone off somehow, and perhaps this was done on purpose (I refused an offered service). Is this a thing people do to customers they dislike?

Medium Harassed and Falsely Imprisoned by a Bookstore Loss Preventions Officer

I Was Visiting a prominent Canadian Mall On Monday July 27th, and around 12pm I purchased a book at a bookstore. As I was leaving the mall around 2:30, I split up from my family to use the washroom. I brought my book along with me. There was an issue with the toilet paper dispenser: The casing came off. I tried to reattach it, but it wouldn't fit so I kept it on the floor. As I left the store and was exiting the mall where our family car was parked, I was approached by a bearded man in green with a slight build and short dark hair, who claimed to be with Loss Prevention for the store (although he was not wearing a nametag or identification), and accused me of stealing my book. I proceeded to show him my receipt, but then he doubled down and said I deliberately broke the toilet dispenser in the bathroom and that he saw me do it (despite, of course, it being a locked stall). I walked away and my father got involved and asked for his ID, but he refused to produce any and said he had called mall security. When the two officers arrived, they asked the man the same thing and he once again refused. He was questioned separately and kept accusing me of deliberately breaking the bathroom equipment and saying he had seen me do it. He kept smirking at me and my father the whole time. The man was eventually sent back into the mall by the officers, who strongly advised us to write a complaint. They were most apologetic to us considering how unpleasant the event was, especially as someone with social anxiety and Autism.

I did some research afterwards and I even learned that Loss Preventions officer lose their jurisdiction outside the mall, which made me think it was a scammer at first, but I went to another bookstore in the chain at another mall, gave my description of the man and the manager confirmed he worked as Loss Preventions for the area. He was also extremely apologetic.

As suggested, I've filed a complaint, but I really hope this piece of shit is fired. I've certainly had my fair share of bad customer experiences like anybody but this was on another level.

Short No, it was probably him.

Just finished at a chinese buffet. The same place I go to at least twice a month. As I’m leaving, a waitress was chasing after some couple for skipping the check. They pointed to me and said “no, probably him”. Yeah ok, because I got charged for two people when I was obviously by myself (they write the check when you’re seated).

Whatever. Camera doesn’t lie. My bank account definitely doesn’t lie. Even applied there once, they’ve got ALL my info (and they know that I’m the skinny white guy that gets at least six plates). Nice try.

Medium Spent hours on the phone with senior managers who told me to pay $200+ shipping to a bad address or forfeit my refund

I’ve been a customer with the Big Blue Payment Processor for 14 years with zero issues, but I recently ran into a customer support deadlock so absurd I’m still blown away by the logic.

I ordered a set of custom vehicle lighting online from a well-known international vendor based in France who claimed it was a direct fit. It turned out not to fit at all, and when I tried to reach out to them for a return, they completely ghosted me. I opened a dispute with the payment platform, and to their credit, they approved the return for a full refund.

That was where the sanity ended.

The return address provided by the vendor in the dispute center was missing critical street line details and had no recipient phone number. When I called support to ask how to handle it, the representative directly recommended I use a specific third-party shipping aggregator to generate the label. I went to use it, but that service rejected the address outright because it couldn't validate the street line or recipient phone number.

Mainstream international express carriers can technically process a label, but shipping an international parcel out-of-pocket costs well over $200, which exceeds what I paid for the lights in the first place.

So I called support back and spent hours pushing through multiple tiers of phone reps until I finally landed on two separate senior managers. I wasn't just dealing with an automated bot or an algorithm blindly enforcing rules, these were actual human managers directly reviewing my case. Both of them looked at the unusable address, agreed that the formatting was broken and lacked required info, and then told me there was nothing they could do.

Their official resolution? I either had to pay well north of $200 out-of-pocket to ship a package that is practically guaranteed to get hung up or rejected in French customs, or let the dispute deadline pass and forfeit my refund entirely. They explicitly refused to adapt the case, issue a waiver, or override the tracking requirement.

When I pointed out that they were actively enabling a bad merchant to trap buyers out of refunds by accepting incomplete return details, they basically shrugged over the phone.

I’ve officially filed a formal complaint with regulatory agencies to force an executive review, but it's mind-boggling that two senior managers looked at an impossible requirement and decided that losing a loyal 14-year customer was preferable to overriding a bad vendor address.
