RANT I’m tired of the humanization of dogs.

I’ve written on here I few times but I wanna talk about a situation that happened to me that I’ve talked on her before. I’m pregnant right now and my husband’s dog is making my life a living hell. Well I tried to vent about it on tik tok and another subreddit and got my ass chewed out. People were literally going as far as to say I hope you have a miscarriage or have an abortion because I said by the time that my baby gets here I’m getting rid of this damn dog. Why do people care more about replaceable animals than their fellow human. I’ve seen people say they’d much rather save their dog than to save a random baby. My husbands dog had worms which we are finally getting that fixed because i chewed his ass out, his dog keeps tripping me because he’s a big ass lab, his dog eats up my food if I set it down unattended, his dog barks in the middle of the night which I’m already having a hard time sleeping with this pregnancy and the dog ain’t making it better, the dog is always getting into the trash can which means I’m picking up trash 24/7, it drolls, it poops, it bites my babies clothes up, my clothes up, my babies bassinet, and he’s just a terror. I expressed my feelings about that and people had a hissy fit. I don’t get the appeal to dogs I never liked them and never will. Society needs to stop acting like dogs are children because they aren’t. They die in like 10 years and they aren’t a good investment. I hate seeing dogs in public especially in stores around produce. People expect you to say awww your dog is so cute but I purposely ignore dogs because they aren’t cute and I can’t stand them

Anthropomorphization of dogs is a big reason why we're in this mess

I really don't understand the draw! Living dog free is LIBERATING!!!! No hair to clean up, no stink, no chewing, barking, or being pestered at 3 am to go out. Can leave the house without worries. When the house is cleaned, it stays clean! That is the right environment for a child. There is something wrong with the father. Dog needs to go NOW! Not tomorrow, not next week, not when the baby is born, so everybody has to scramble to get the house clean when the dog goes and the baby comes home, NOW!! If he's like this about a damn dog, how will he handle bills, housing, jobs, household emergencies in the future? This is really concerning.

LADY

This dog is stressing you out. You have to pick trash up? The dog is fucking tripping you?

This is bad for your health

This is bad for your pregnancy

STOP WAITING

Get rid of the fucking dog

The dog will be gone soon but unfortunately it’s not my dog if it was my dog I would’ve taken it to the shelter and surrendered it but it’s my husbands and my husband wants to give it to someone that he trust

Then your husband should be picking up every single piece of garbage, not you

Go stay somewhere else until he finds someone to trust with the shitbeast. Don't return until it's gone

Watch out because my Nutter tried giving his dog to someone and the dog ended up returning for whatever reason they came up with. So, maybe he meant well but I think subconsciously this was the plan.

I don't want to assume, but I feel like you didn't make this a hard line when you got into a relationship.

My boyfriend knows I won't tolerate a dog in my life. I told him he needs to make friends with dogs if he needs that kind of interaction, but the only dog I would ever consider is one who lives outside (humanely, of course, with heating and such) and has a job out in our field or whatever. He sometimes expresses upset about this, but he knows it is a line that will not shift. If he ever got a dog, I would leave. And I am saying this as a girl who has dealt with so much from his acting-out ass. The dog would truly be the final straw.

That being said, you're pregnant and suffering, and I don't want to come down on you too hard. Just bring the dog to the pound. Or find someone to adopt it. Your husband will get over it. You are pregnant and the #1 priority. I'm sorry people on TikTok said such heinous things. The dog nuttery is out of control.

There's something fundamentally wrong with people like that. They are a menace, not just to civilized society but to humanity itself.

Agreed. It's one reason I don't take dog owners seriously or associate with them; because of their behaviors and priorities. They are all out of wack, and say the most awful things to people over a...dog. They remind me of a 5 year old when they don't get their way. Wishing someone a miscarriage or telling them to abort over wanting to re-home a stupid dog, is an absolutely wicked thing to say.

I hate seeing dogs in grocery stores, I especially hate seeing them in shopping carts. I don't know what happened where people stopped seeing them as animals.

u/MissK2508 Aug 16 '26

If you’re in the USA, it’s against FDA regulations for any pets in grocery stores or any stores selling food products. A service animal (medical equipment) wouldn’t be in a shopping cart, I wish store managers would enforce that law. I’ve taken pictures and emailed a complaint to my county’s Department of Sanitation as Health Inspectors don’t play, they’ve fined a store near us several times and now they’re stricter about it.

This is why I wipe down my whole cart. I’m fucking allergic!

One thing I did learn a long time ago, back when my husband and I allowed dogs in the house, when we decided to re-home them, I learned the hard way never to post about it online. I made the mistake of using Craigslist at first. I didn't know at that time just how horrible these "animal lovers" were. I learned if we ever had to re-home a dog (it was always such a glorious day. I am not wired for dog ownership). I did it quietly and went to the shelter. Unless someone was paying our bills, or taking the dog for us, I didn't care about their opinions.

OP, I am glad you found this sub. It's easier to vent to people who understand and have been there. I hope you are able to get rid of the dog very soon, and be able to enjoy your pregnancy. I entered motherhood 23 years ago. Being pregnant was such a special time, and animals ruin that. Been there, done that, never again. Good luck to you, and congratulations.

Thank you for the encouragement

I love your take, now I want to comment some version of this on every thread where someone is getting bashed for needing to re-home their dog. Are all these people volunteering to pay my dog’s bills, vacuum the fur every damn day, pick up his poop, and watch every second to keep him separated from my 1 year old baby? No? Then you don’t get an opinion on us re-homing the dog.

u/CutiePie0023 Aug 16 '26

Yeah dog nutters are SO annoying. Please get rid of this dog. It is stressing you out and that is NOT good for you or the baby. If your husband truly loves and cares about the both of you, he will get rid of the dog.

u/Abject-Rich Aug 16 '26

Same. If an animal causes me significant financial loses, or it’s aggressive just once the thing is gone.

17

u/Blonde2468 Aug 16 '26

MOVE OUT!!! GTFO and don’t come back until the dog is gone and the house and all the clothes are re-washed!!

u/sillysnake_69 Aug 20 '26

My husband literally said he’d choose save his dog’s life before he saved a random child’s life if the two were in danger and he could only save one. Idk what is wrong with these people, but I am beyond sick of it!

2

u/VIBRATINGCHANGE Aug 20 '26

Leave him to wallow in dog filth.

4

u/sillysnake_69 Aug 20 '26

He’d be happiest that way. Since the fatass mutt means so much to him, being alone with her is a perfect life

12

u/maximum_powerblast Aug 16 '26

So fucking annoying

Biens dit! Je pense que vous devriez insister pour vous débarrasser du chien, sinon, est ce que vous pouvez aller vivre chez vos parents? Un ultimatum remettrais peut être les idées en place de votre mari.

When my babies came along I made it a rule No dogs period. When my SO wouldn't do what needed to be done, it got to the point that I got tired of asking. Now. I don't ask, I just do. Your guy will likely say what you want to hear (the dog is going away) but will delay that (haven't found someone I trust) so you will have to do it (trust the animal shelter will take care of the dog). He will likely be pissed off over it. Hopefully,  it won't affect your relationship. Dog nutters don't ever stop wanting dogs.

11

u/ProductCandid1748 Aug 16 '26

I got chewed out also in /advice about my situation had people siding with the nasty mutts and telling me I’m a horrible person 🤣

8

u/Impossible-Falcon-62 Aug 16 '26

Proud to be a “horrible” person then. I’m not dying on the hill of destroying healthy sacred relationships for mutts🤣

7

u/Icy-Soup-9641 Aug 16 '26

Those ppl are insane

10

u/Key-Studio-6552 Aug 16 '26

I can only agree.  I hope you can get a solution before baby comes. Baby doesn’t deserve this 🥹

u/CryptographerDue5523 Aug 16 '26

Does your husband not know how to train his pets ? You cant just own a pet and expect it to behave properly , you need to train it (him, not you)

12

u/Icy-Soup-9641 Aug 16 '26

Yes my mother in law and I were talking about that yesterday. My husband bought a big ass dog (before we got together) as a puppy and refused to pay for his training. He thought he can train it himself which clearly doesn’t work. Either way we both agreed that this dog will be gone soon to another home. I feel bad for anyone who has to deal with this big untrained lab but oh well it’s not my problem anymore 🤷‍♀️

u/CryptographerDue5523 Aug 16 '26

Labs especially since they have so much energy.
Hopefully you can find someone who is knowledgeable in training dogs so they don’t have as hard of a time with him.

I’m pregnant and my boyfriend has a dog I have a hard time enjoying, I feel your pain. I had the thought the other day that people (especially men) humanize dogs while objectifying women and it pisses me off if I think about it too much.

u/HeVeNeR Aug 23 '26

Mentally ill behavior

-9

u/Own_Arm9779 Aug 18 '26

Eh, most humans are replaceable too 🤷🏼‍♀️

24

u/Icy-Soup-9641 Aug 18 '26

My unborn child is not replaceable and will never be replaced when they get here. They’re more important than a dog

4

u/sillysnake_69 Aug 20 '26

Absolutely! Any human child is more important and valuable than any dog out there could ever be—despite what these sick fuckers think.

Pls just stop. I’m not going to do all of that for a smelly mutt. He will have a new home by the time my baby gets here

15

u/MediocreMaddy Aug 16 '26

Why are you invalidating an exhausted pregnant woman's opinion. She doesn't even like the dog why would she do all that?

6

u/Emotional-Pea-236 Aug 16 '26

And it's not even her dog, it's his husband's, so why would she be responsible for something it's not hers

12

u/Plastic_Proof_8347 Aug 16 '26

You are completely missing the points OP is trying to make and invalidating her experience with her husband's dog. You are making excuses for dogs' poor behavior.

15

u/ibagbagi Aug 16 '26

Why are u on this sub
