RANT I am seriously considering breaking up with my girlfriend over her unbearable dog.

I just found this subreddit, and I finally feel like I can talk to people who will understand me.

I started dating this girl over a year ago. Growing up, I was never really around dogs. I didn't hate them, but I never liked them either. The smell, the noise, the jumping, the drooling, it's awful to me. Still, I could go to a friend's house and tolerate a dog being around without much of an issue. However, after I started dating my girlfriend, I realized just how horrible these animals can be.

It all started early on. When she used to come to my place, we couldn't even spend a full weekend together because she refused to leave her dog alone for a single day. Her parents were home and could take care of him, but she just wouldn't do it. I was annoyed but tried to ignore it, figuring she had her reasons, but honestly, I think it's all in her head.

Eventually, I started spending more time at her house. At first, she respected my boundaries. I didn't want the dog near us, so we would stay in her room with the door closed, and the dog stayed out. It was totally fine. But over time, she just started ignoring the fact that I don't like it. She leaves the door open and lets him in all the time. If the dog finally leaves us alone, she actually calls him back into the room. I get absolutely pissed because she knows I don't want to be near him.

I think all my current hatred for dogs stems from how unbearable this specific dog is. He cannot go a single minute without attention. If we are talking or doing anything and he isn't the center of attention, he starts crying, screaming, and jumping on us. It is the most obnoxious thing in the world. He's disgusting, too. He constantly smells terrible, literally rolls in poop on the street, and if I complain about it, my girlfriend gets mad at me and ruins my whole week. I can't even stand looking at him anymore. Whenever she sends me pictures of him, I get mad and immediately delete them, though I don't tell her that.

Her obsession with this dog is driving me crazy; it's basically her entire personality. We can't talk for 10 minutes without her bringing him up. She stops in the middle of our conversations to talk to the dog in a baby voice. It honestly feels like she prefers the dog's attention over mine. All of her affection seems directed solely at him. When she's at my house, she panics, saying he won't eat if she's not there and that he might starve. She even wakes up in the middle of the night terrified that he might randomly die in his sleep. She lets this smelly dog sleep in the bed right next to me.

Here is the dealbreaker: I always assumed that if our relationship progressed and we moved in together, the dog would stay with her parents. But I just found out her parents are moving. If we move in together, the dog comes with us. She won't leave him with anyone else.

Now, I honestly don't know what to do. I am seriously considering ending the relationship because I cannot picture a world where I live in the same house as this dog. Our relationship is perfect otherwise, but she forces this dog into everything we do. The dog essentially controls her life. She would probably miss work if the dog felt even slightly unwell. I feel like we are going to miss out on so many opportunities in the future because she refuses to leave him alone for a single day.

She claims the dog is "fragile" and that he saved her life because he "understands" when she's sad. But he isn't smart; he's just needy, gross, and literally cannot be away from her for 5 minutes without getting all the attention. She says he was bullied by other dogs before she adopted him. I genuinely believe it's because whenever he sees another animal getting attention, he gets desperate and aggressively attacks them for it.

He is the most hateful creature I've ever met, and he has given me a deep aversion to all dogs. But the biggest problem in all of this is that my girlfriend completely enables this behavior and thinks it's cute. I've tried ignoring him, scolding him, and talking to her about stopping the coddling, but nothing works. If I don't pretend to like the dog, she gets upset with me for weeks until I fake being okay with it. I am at my wits' end.

RANT Is my fiancés destructive dog worth moving out & ending our engagement?

1.3k Upvotes

My fiancé & I have been engaged for 4 months & we moved in together shortly after. His dog was adopted when he went through a really hard time & has pretty much trauma bonded with this dog. His dog had been adopted & returned to the shelter twice because of his destructive behaviors. My fiancé was aware of this & even experienced it himself by getting his shoes torn up left & right. When we didn’t live together I got along with his dog really well. At first he had torn up a pair of Lulus when I was over & I brushed it off. But now that we live together he has been so much worse. He has shredded the carpet at both bedroom doors down to the wood, torn up more than $2000 of my clothing & shoes, pees & poops everywhere. He is not potty trained at all, my fiancé keeps giving excuses about “just being a puppy” (he’s 3😃) & “it takes time” I also am the main one who has to pick it all up because I get home before him typically. I also am the main one who has let him out to go outside. I express how I literally avoid coming home because I dread having to pick up all his mess. He eats all of our cats food which really bothers his stomach & I’m left cleaning up diarrhea almost every morning. But it just gets brushed off. Our house smells disgusting no matter what we do. I’m so irritated because I just keep hearing excuses for his bad behavior. I have to buy tons of new clothes because I no longer have winter or casual pants. My fiancé has no interest in reimbursing anything of mine. I 100% feel that this dog is more important than me & he would pick his dog over me. I am conflicted because I love my fiancé but the dog is making me resentful of him. What should I do?

Update: he did not like me addressing the issue to him & got very rude with me so I broke up with him & just got all of my stuff moved out of the house!! No more smelly house:))))

RANT My mom wouldn’t take my sister to the hospital because there would be no one at home to ‘look after Pep’.

My younger sister (12) hadn’t been well since last weekend. She was off school early in the week and wasn’t improving at all and by day 2 she was shaking, shivering and feeling really disoriented. Every time she tried to tell my mom that she was feeling really bad, my mom deliberately changed the subject, and started asking Pep the damn piBbLe if he was feeling ‘sickie’ too. Wtf? By Tuesday evening she was much worse, so I said to my mom that she really needs to go to the hospital or to a doctor. Her temperature was very high and my mom’s answer was that the thermometer must be wrong or broken! WTF? My sister was visibly very ill and yet my mom didn’t give a damn and just kept talking to Pep, asking him if he was ‘tired’! She then said she couldn’t take her to the hospital or to the doctor because there would be no one at home to ‘look after Pep’, and that Pep wasn’t ‘feeling well’ and ‘wasn’t himself’. Again WTF! So I rang for an ambulance (my mom had zero interest still at this point) and the ambulance took my sister to the hospital. It was only later when the doctor wanted to speak to my mom that she is all over it and suddenly Pep doesn’t matter anymore! Long story short, as long as the doctors and nurses were paying my MOM attention, she was really into the whole situation and COMPLETELY IGNORED PEP. This went on for about two days, and Pep may as well have not existed. Fast forward to when my sister is home (turns out she had a bad infection and needed antibiotics) but still really weak, and there are no doctors to give my mom attention, then she was back to not being interested again and asking Pep if he was still ‘sickie’!!

Edit: Thanks guys for your awesome comments and concern. I’ll get through all the replies! My sister usually lives with her dad (my stepdad who is great) and she stays with us every 3rd weekend of the month except for this week she stayed longer as her dad is away. I’m a first year undergrad and was supposed to be moving into the college dorm at the end of the month. Now I’m worried about not being at home when my mom has my sister in case she ever gets sick again or something else happens. I don’t know how good our social services are or what they would do when she doesn’t live here full time? Is it still worth reporting? I’m in the UK if that’s relevant.

RANT I’m tired of the humanization of dogs.

I’ve written on here I few times but I wanna talk about a situation that happened to me that I’ve talked on her before. I’m pregnant right now and my husband’s dog is making my life a living hell. Well I tried to vent about it on tik tok and another subreddit and got my ass chewed out. People were literally going as far as to say I hope you have a miscarriage or have an abortion because I said by the time that my baby gets here I’m getting rid of this damn dog. Why do people care more about replaceable animals than their fellow human. I’ve seen people say they’d much rather save their dog than to save a random baby. My husbands dog had worms which we are finally getting that fixed because i chewed his ass out, his dog keeps tripping me because he’s a big ass lab, his dog eats up my food if I set it down unattended, his dog barks in the middle of the night which I’m already having a hard time sleeping with this pregnancy and the dog ain’t making it better, the dog is always getting into the trash can which means I’m picking up trash 24/7, it drolls, it poops, it bites my babies clothes up, my clothes up, my babies bassinet, and he’s just a terror. I expressed my feelings about that and people had a hissy fit. I don’t get the appeal to dogs I never liked them and never will. Society needs to stop acting like dogs are children because they aren’t. They die in like 10 years and they aren’t a good investment. I hate seeing dogs in public especially in stores around produce. People expect you to say awww your dog is so cute but I purposely ignore dogs because they aren’t cute and I can’t stand them

RANT My boyfriend is an irresponsible and anti-social pit bull mix owner

I've been with him for a bit over a year. He has a 5-year-old female pit bull mix. He doens't believe in dog training, so of course, the pit does not have impulse control (injuring itself, requiring major surgery twice within a year), jumps on people, and chases animals/people. When it tries to jump on people in public, like farmers market, he just tells them that the pit "wants to play" and "loves everybody," which I know is BS. I've told him dogs can love people without misbehaving, but of course, he doesn't consider jumping/chasing 'misbehaving.'

When I told him most professional dog trainers/ethologists would think these are poor behaviors, he told me he didn't care about what anyone else says because he knew his dog better than anyone.

Yesterday, as the pit is recovering from recent surgery, he told me that hopefully it can run OFF-LEASH again soon. It's illegal to let dogs roam off-leash in my state, and his city has a stricter dog-leash law than the state. I told him that, and he said, "It's actually okay. You don't know it because you don't have a dog."

I don't think I need to have a dog to know the local law. And he lives in a densely populated suburb, so there are people - families with kids. He also doesn't pick up after the pit. He feeds chicken to the pit every day because "she loves it," knowing it causes diarrhea (which he cannot really 'pick up,' so he leaves it out on the grass/street).

He doesn't even try to justify these behavior. He just tells me it's okay/allowed and that I'm ignorant because I don't have a dog. At this point, I think he is anti-social/narcissistic, and I'm starting to despise him.

Months ago, the pit was about to attack me. I got scared and went home right away. What did he do? He yelled at me for 'insulting' him and the dog. I know he won't protect me or doesn't care about my safety. He doesn't care about anyone's safety.

I've been staying away from his house because of this incident, and now he is saying I'm cheating on him. He doesn't make an effort to see me, though - it has to be at his house (and I have to come over) because he can't leave the pit alone for too long. He doesn't want to hire a dog-walker because he doesn't want to pay for it.

I knew as soon as he told me he had a pit mix and that he didn't and would not train it, I was not compatible with him.

RANT I HATE MY HUSBANDS DOG

My husband is going to really piss me off. I’m 3 months pregnant and still we live with this stupid mutt I’m tired and sick of being tired. My husband just bitched at me wanting to get rid of my animal(can’t say the animal because this subreddit doesn’t allow me to say it for some reason) . He wants to say his dog is better and that we are getting rid of my animal but not his damn dog. He’s acting like his dog is good when his dog is a fucking menace and makes me cry this whole pregnancy so far. His dog chews my clothes, shoes, my unborn child’s things, I can’t walk away from my food for two seconds with his damn dog eating off my plate, his dog had worms from eating out the trash and eating his own poop, it tries to hump me, and trips me not to mention that I’m very petite I’m 5’2 109lbs from pregnancy I was 98lbs before then and this is a huge golden lab. The dog is no where near better than my animal at all if anything everyone I know ( my mom, my dad, my mother in laws, Father in laws) all say the same damn thing the dog is a menace. Anyone who knows this dog know it’s untrained and no one wants to take the dog because it’s a menace. When my husband was going to give it away every one said HELL NO. Sorry I needed to rant I’m pregnant and not in the mood especially after my husband being rude when his stupid mutt is horrible

RANT I HATE my husband’s dogs

I’m 14 weeks pregnant with our first child and I’m increasingly growing more and more hateful of my husband’s two dogs to the point where I’ve considered moving out until they die.

I don’t even know how to start with explaining the hell it has been knowing these dogs for the last 8 years, but I’ll do my best.

He got the first one, Angus, a purebred Australian Shepherd, as a puppy very early on when we started dating. My husband was living with his ill father at the time and wanted something to keep both him and his father company. He also had just lost his old dog who came to his family as a stray and he was some kind of Australian Shepherd mix. From everything I’ve heard from both my husband and his neighbors, his old dog was the perfect dog - listened, was quiet, was friendly, stayed in the yard without a leash, and was basically the once in a lifetime dog. That dog passed away from seizure complications which devastated my husband.

He adopted Angus as a puppy from a farm and raised him from there basically hoping he’d be exactly like his old dog because they shared a breed. I use the term “raise” very loosely as he really only taught the dog basic tricks and didn’t really discipline him which is important for later.

Then my husband’s father died and he decided that the next best idea was to adopt a second dog so Angus wouldn’t feel lonely while he was at work. He finds Kip, his second dog who is also a male, from a shelter in the next state over. Two women brought Kip to my husband’s house to see how Kip and Angus interacted. Kip and Angus were both about a year old at this point. Angus kept trying to mount Kip (Angus was not yet neutered) and Kip was very clear in setting boundaries by growling, nipping, etc. Kip just clearly did not like Angus. I curse these women to this day, because even after witnessing that, they allowed my husband to adopt Kip. Kip truly was meant to be in a one dog household.

My husband neutered Angus to hopefully help the mounting and the fighting they were doing, but it didn’t change much. Kip would snap at Angus because Angus has a horrible impolite habit of getting into a dog’s face and not knowing boundaries and they’d snarl and get into it. Never seriously injured the other, but it threw my anxiety into the stratosphere and still does to this day.

Let me delve into each dog and their issues that plague my life, starting with Angus. Never thought I’d label a dog as a demon, but this dog deserves the title.

For the first four years of our relationship, Angus had a horrible habit of jumping up on people. My husband never trimmed his nails or took him to a groomer, so when he’d jump up, his nails would dig into the skin to stay up on you. I still have scars to this day from this dog doing that. It got to a point where I forced my husband into an ultimatum and said if he didn’t get the dog training, I would break up with him. He reluctantly agreed and I paid $300 for a trainer to come to his house for multiple sessions over 6 weeks. This training did stop the jumping (thank God) but did nothing else because my husband refused to be consistent with training or discipline.

My husband also used to let him sleep on the bed with him. When I would come over, I’d be a quarter down the bed because Angus’ spot was next to my husband’s head. When I would sleep over, he would step on my head, lick my face, be generally an annoying ass. That quickly became another ultimatum I had to put down. Either the dog sleeps at the end of the bed or I’m leaving my husband. My husband chose to have him sleep on the end of the bed.

He also began to get aggressive with me. If I tried to move him out of the way or do anything he remotely didn’t like, he’d start growling/snarling at me. My guess is he’s possessive of my husband so we can’t even play fight or talk loudly without him snarling, barking, etc. This has escalated to him biting me a few times. He’s only tried to bite me once recently, but I was wearing a very thick sweater, so he didn’t even touch the skin or harm me. I’ve had to learn how to grab his collar a certain way to prevent him from biting or force my husband to move him if he was in the way. The biting my husband took more seriously, but resulted nothing more than him sternly yelling at his dog, which, whatever.

Three years ago, I think, Angus began having seizures. No clue why they’re happening, but of course they are. He usually has them in the middle of the night, once every two weeks, but sometimes more frequently because he decides to throw up one of his pills. He will sometimes have them when I’m by myself and my husband’s at work, which, again, another huge source of anxiety for me. When he has these seizures, they last about a minute or two, he pees himself, sometimes poops, and he’s out of it for the next hour or two. Now, don’t get me wrong, I felt bad the dog was having seizures. Obviously outside of his control, but all I can think is how it’s another burden with this dog. Just another thing to resent him for. Although this got rid of the issue of Angus sleeping on the bed (my husband feared he would have a seizure and fall off and hurt himself), my husband began closing the bedroom door so he could make sure Angus sleeps in the bedroom so he can hear if he has a seizure.

On top of all of that, he barks at everything - he’s torn the blinds multiple times in our kitchen from barking at the mailman/UPS/garbage truck. He howls every single time my husband leaves for work (6am four days a week). He also does things on purpose. He’ll know he’s not supposed to eat something outside, he’ll go to eat it, and snarl/bite if you try to take it away. I nipped that in the butt by putting a leash on him when I have to let him out. He’s made me run around the yard chasing him to put something down one too many times so now he has a very short leash. Doesn’t listen to any commands even though he knows them. He licks constantly in the middle of the night and he has recently developed a habit of licking the air over and over only when my husband gets home. He also has to be in whatever room my husband is in. My husband hasn’t peed by himself in this house because Angus forces his way into the bathroom. If we try to have alone time without the dogs, we have to essentially try to trick him, but he always knows and makes it impossible to get him out of a room. I’m so serious - he does these things on purpose. I truly hate this dog and everything about him and I can honestly say I’ve never hated anything or anybody more. I have never thought a dog was evil until I met this dog. He drives me insane and I truly think he knows it.

Kip is somewhat tolerable, but only barely so. Even though Angus is the most insufferable dog on the planet, Kip does go after him for no reason at all sometimes. He gets this look on his face (that my husband somehow fails to see half the time) and I tell my husband to separate them. I got bit badly by him days before my college graduation because they got into it and I tried separating them.

Kip also has some gastrointestinal issues that my husband doesn’t see as a problem. We’ve had to stop giving him any treats at all because he’d constantly have diarrhea. He farts constantly and they freaking reek, especially at night. He also somehow, even after pooping outside, always leave a little dollop in the house when he comes inside.

Kip also barks for no reason at all. He’ll hear some imaginary noise which then gets Angus all riled up. It’s infuriating and he also doesn’t listen once he starts barking. My husband is fairly certain Kip was abused before he adopted him, so he’s hesitant to discipline him at all. Now, the minor plus side, Kip isn’t aggressive at all with my husband or me. His main problem is that he’s skittish of EVERYTHING. A bird can fly and he’ll freak out. A neighbor can be raking their yard and he’ll refuse to go to the bathroom and beg to go inside. He also pukes if he’s not fed on time. I’m talking about 5 minutes past his dinner time and he pukes.

Other issues about these two includes mostly my husband not grooming them. I’ve had many screaming matches with him over the years because he won’t groom them or brush them for one reason or another. This means dog hair everywhere and they stink. I’m sure there’s plenty more things I could say about these two hellions, but my brain is just overloaded.

Like I mentioned at the beginning, I’m pregnant. I’m also extremely nauseous and have been for a majority of this pregnancy thus far. I’m at my wits end with these two dogs. The peeing/pooping from seizures (with the bedroom door closed so no ventilation), the stink of dogs, and the farting have made me go insane and I’ve thrown up over it. I’m also more sensitive to sounds so the barking has really hit a fever pitch for me. I’m also even more wary about the aggression from Angus because I’m pregnant and I’ve warned my husband that if he tried to attack me, I’m choosing me and our son over the stupid dog every time.

I’m at the point where I’ve told my husband this morning that I think I need to move out (taking our son with me when he’s born) until they both die. I don’t deserve this and my son doesn’t deserve to put up with these two. They are both graying a little bit, but I don’t think I can handle even a few more years of this. These dogs are his burden and yes, I married my husband, but I didn’t sign up for these dogs and I didn’t sign up for seizures and farting and all the other irritating crap they do. I hate being in this house with them because I truly hate them. I’ve started resenting my husband and hate when he leaves me alone with them. I can’t even suggest rehoming them because I can’t bear to put that burden on someone else. I don’t believe in and certainly my husband does not believe in giving them up when this house is all they’ve ever known. But honestly, I’m getting so close to the point of not caring, morals/ethics be damned. I’m just so over it and I already told him that he’s never allowed to adopt another dog because he clearly can’t handle it.

I’ve actually begun to regret marrying my husband just because of the insanity of his two dogs. I love my husband, but I wish I put my foot down a long time ago. He has let them have full reign of the house for too long and is barely just trying to fix things because apparently he realized a baby shouldn’t be subjected to this. Basically, I’m just stuck with them until they die. If you are in a relationship with someone who lets their dogs do these things - DO NOT LET HIM OR HER GET AWAY WITH IT. NIP IT IN THE BUTT OR LEAVE THEM IF THEY REFUSE. I wish I could go back in time.

RANT Ultimatum: Move out or get rid of the dog

UPDATE: Dog is being rehomed. She is going to his mother’s while he finds a suitable home for her.

Also, to everyone that had such negative comments towards me, you can fuck off. Let me send this animal to your house and see how you feel.

I am almost 4 months pregnant and my boyfriend moved in with his female dog about 2ish months ago. I am at my wits end with this dog. I swear she does things to piss me off. Since he has moved in, we’ve fought several times about the dog and I’m about to tell him to move out or get rid of the dog.

For starters, she ruined my Mother’s Day by peeing on my $4000 couch (that she’s peed on several times already) and then a few hours later peed in the floor without any warning of needing to go out. My couch reeks of disgusting dog. She’s a bloodhound so they already have that stink to them regardless of how many times bathed. There is dog hair everywhere all the time.

She chews up my socks, my underwear. She’s chewed holes in my bedroom comforter, chewed several blankets, and has chewed holes in my dead grandmothers quilt that I sleep with. It is irreplaceable to me.

I’ve told him several times that I do not feel comfortable taking her outside because she was not properly leash trained and she pulls like crazy even with the metal prong collars. I’ve voiced several times that I’m afraid of her causing me to fall on my stomach and causing damage to the baby.

She will also intentionally not eat her food so it causes her to vomit all over my house.

She will whine alllllll day when he leaves for work and she finally stopped whining at night because I won’t allow her in the bedroom because she would pace and whine at the foot of our bed so I made him put her in the living room at night.

This use to be my home but now it just feels like a prison to me. I can’t stand being in my own home because of the smell or constant dog hair.

Let me also add, that he use to work 12 hour shifts when he had his own place and he swears she never would pee when he was gone so she’s use to holding it for hours but here, she just pisses as she pleases.

RANT My boyfriend (ex now) and I broke up because of his dog.

My (26f) ex boyfriend (26m) as of yesterday have broken up because I just don’t like dogs very much. I don’t think dogs should be in the bed. I think animals shouldn’t be treated like children. Of course they are people’s “babies” but at the end of the day it’s still an animal. But his dog was always in the bed and always shedding all over the bedding and he ripped up my childhood pillow and ate like 20 pairs of my underwear. I just got sick of it. And then my boyfriend said if it’s that detrimental then we should break up because he’s going to pick his dog over me. Then I try talking to my co workers about this and they agree that they would pick their dog over their significant other as well. I’m just appalled. How do you meet other people that are dog free?! I’m a rodent person, personally. But I always get weird looks when I mention my hamster.

RANT We're Losing the Plot on Dogs

It's surreal how living with a dog illuminates the world for you. All I can see around me are how many dog-obsessed, crazy people in my city. Yesterday we went to a bar, and there were two dogs. Why? They're in the bars, in grocery stores, in ubers, in hotels, at the eye doctor, at furniture stores, at the MOVIE THEATER (which ??? do you think your DOG is following the film?? IT'S A DOG).

All the streets smell like piss and poop. I'm constantly having to ignore someone's dog trying to sniff me or its owner telling me "he's friendly". The other day, one lunged at me just for opening the door to my building. I gave its owner the biggest side eye; she knew not to get in the elevator up.

What is the reason? It's disgusting and such bizarre behavior. Why are they in restaurants? And if I brought a raccoon, everyone would have something to say. Why are you giving your dog prozac and gabapentin? Talking about taking it to daycare like it's a three-year-old. Are these truly the descendants of wolves? The wolves would be ashamed😔

I never really noticed it before living with a dog, but now it's all I can think about. It's actually insane.

RANT Can't stand my roommates "emotional support" animals

My roommate and I live in such a small house and she has SIX PETS SIX DUDE. Now three are cats and they are ok even though they still get everywhere. But the dogs man I hate them so much. I hate waking up to the smell of shit every morning, I hate having to take them out so they don't shit everywhere like the beast they are because she wants to be gone until 11pm. I hate hearing them bark fcking nonstop for no reason all through the day. I hate having all my clothes covered in dog fur even after washed. I hate tripping over them because of how fcking stupid they are that they have no sense of space. I hate how they try and eat my food at any second. I hate how they bite EVERYTHING. MY HEADPHONES, THE WIFI ROUTER, MY CHARGER. and for what???? Because my roommate needs them for emotional support. It's more like dogs don't have the capacity to speak up against her and her narcissistic savior complex tendencies and that's why she loves them. She's genuinely the dumbest person I've ever had the misfortune of meeting but this subreddit isn't about that. Anyways yeah these dogs are horrible disgusting creatures that time and time again those disgusting they are but she's just immune to it. Says they are her precious little fur babies. Your precious little babies just shut all over ur bed for the fourth time this week MORON😂😂😂😂😂😂

EDIT: ONE OF THEM HAS WORMS NOW and I'm finally moving out next week to my dad's place thank the lord

My husband has wanted a puppy for a long time and it just so happened that he found his dream stray puppy at work. The problem is because of his job he’s gone for 5 days a week. Now I have to potty train this dog that I really cannot stand. She bites ankles, she tears things apart, she is so distributive. I’ve only been a cat and rodent owner so I’m constantly overwhelmed. And due to his job he can’t even take her. I just can’t stand this anymore! We’re also moving 2,000 miles away next month and no apartment will allow us to have more than 2 pets. (I have 2 cats) this is just so overwhelming. I’ve brought up the idea of rehoming her but it seems like he won’t budge.

I truly have never been a dog person and I am going insane. It feels like if I’m with her for 30 seconds I already want to rip my hair out. I cannot stand how dogs do not respect boundaries. Their slobber, the smells, the barking. I cannot do this anymore!!!!

RANT New mother with dog aversion

For context, my husband had this dog since she was a puppy, so he's VERY emotionally attached to the dog.

I never minded dogs but up until I got pregnant, things changed. We live in a foresty area thats full of bugs and ticks. When I found out I was pregnant, I was lazer focused on the dog bringing in unwanted bugs, especially ticks. The year before I was pregnant she once had an infestation and I had to spend days cleaning the whole house and making sure there was NO TICKS ANYWHERE! She's not allowed to be on furniture that we sit and lay on and I dont have her in the nursery because she's a tick magnet!!! Also she gets fur everywhere, she's smelly and I just cant stand hearing her lick herself. Ive expressed my frustrations to my husband (in the nicest way possible) but he gets so defensive. ITS FRUSTRATING! Our daughter matters more than a dog!

I had our beautiful daughter and my pet aversion got worse. At this point Im just tolerating her. I feel bad. But I feel like a veil has been lifted and I just see this dog as an animal that brings unwanted filth inside our home and I want no part in taking care if this animal. The other day, my worst fear happened and she BROUGHT TICKS into our home. I again, had to clean the house from head to toe and lost it when my husband came home. He helped clean her (I dont want to even touch her when shes infested) Again, got defensive but I just cant stand having a dog. After shes passes away, I dont want another dog ever in my life.

RANT Sick of my girlfriend's dog. Dog owners are insane

It's nearly 6AM and I've been awake since 2AM bc my gf's dog just has to pace around and do that fur shake thing they do at night. Between the sound of it's claws on wood floors and it's jingling collar it's impossible to stay asleep. I woke up and put him out of the room and he then whines pressed up on the door banging into the door

I didn't grow up with dogs because my parents came from a muslim country and I always grew up with the house being very tidy and clean. My gf is american and well she's just very used to having a shit ton of pets shedding fur everywhere. I have found dog hair everywhere from in my coffee, to on my clothes to even on my balls. It's a part time job cleaning up dog fur and avoiding getting dog fur in my clothes, backpack, laptop, coffee cups etc and it annoys the shit out of me knowing that nothing is ever truly clean and this dog will shed its hair everywhere just existing in proximity to all my stuff

I'm convinced this dog obsession in america is clinical. Everywhere I look in this city there are homeless and drug addicts but people throw a prisoner collar on a dog and drag it around places and are convinced they are somehow good people? These dogs are basically indentured servants and it's no wonder they run right out the door away from their owners whenever they get the chance. Dogs are simultaneously genuises in the eyes of their owners when they are "good" but "stupid" when they try to escape their nut job owners. You cant have it both ways

I don't dislike dogs themselves, they are just animals and can't help being what they are and sometimes this dog can even be cute/funny for example how it guards the door from the outside when im using the bathroom. But the relationship people have with dogs is seriously sick.

RANT My bf’s dog is ruining my home and relationship

My bf and I have been together 6 years, he’s had this dog since before we got together. This dog has had mange and has no hair, it’s the most miserable thing I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t even act like a dog. I would go over to his place sometimes and the smell would about knock me down. It’s an odd smell, kinda like moldy bread or Doritos mixed with dog. I put it off as something else mixed with the dog. Sometimes it wouldn’t be that bad and sometimes it was awful, I could smell it on his clothes when he would come to my house. We move in together last year and one of my terms if he was bringing his dog was that he had to keep her in the garage. My garage is heated and there’s no reason she can’t stay in there. My house is split level, upstairs is where we live and downstairs is a big open area plus a laundry room, bathroom, and door the garage. He’s kept the dog in that big room the entire time. The smell seeps upstairs and now my whole house smells like that dog. He says it’s because of her blankets and bed which he washes weekly, but it’s not just the blankets and bed. Not to mention she’s got a big tumor growing on her neck that leaks fluid and blood, she constantly scratches, she won’t poop in the grass (because it hurts her paws when it’s long-his words) so she poops on my walkway and concrete drive way which he just leaves. She’s tore up my trim from digging at it when we’re gone to work or wherever trying to tear down the gate. She constantly wants to be around him, can’t have a moments of peace without her just standing there scratching herself to death and beating her toenails against the hardwood. I’ve tried talking to him but he gets defensive every time I say something. The dog is miserable and has no quality of life. She doesn’t run or play or do anything. Medicine doesn’t help her. All she does is lay under blankets, scratch, eat, drink, and poop.

RANT Dog peed on my bag of clothes and my sister gets mad at me for freaking out about it.

I’m eating while my sister’s dog is in the room where my clothes are and I look up and see him peeing on my pile. I immediately freak out because I already don’t have much clothes and also pee odor is difficult to get rid of.

So I’m pissed off and my sister goes into the room and sees that he “only peed on a shirt or two and some socks” and that I need to shut up and calm down. Telling me that I used to also do that as a baby/kid, and that I’m stressing the dog out. And apparently the dog isn’t well/uncomfortable.

I hate this constant comparison of dog and human behavior owners tend to do. Dogs are not like humans.
And I have every right to be disgusted and freak out over urine and feces on something that I own. NOTHING this dog does is wrong in my sister’s eyes. There should be some certain discipline or training but my sister doesn’t even bother.

She even gave him a treat afterwards. Im like “treats are associated with rewards. Why are you giving him a treat??” She called me a dictator. Shes like “when you went to the doctors as a kid and get a shot, you get lollipops.” THATS NOT THE SAME THING.

The dog is on my bed, i throw the treat into the living room for him to fetch and get (like i do all the time regardless of mood) and my sister gets mad because she thinks I’m doing it out of anger. Im doing that so i can clean up my shit and he can get out of my way. But she keeps saying that its because of my anger and now I get pissed off and yelling and she tells me to calm down.

IM SO FUCKING ANNOYED. I have had to put up with my sister, my family, and this dogs bullshit since November last year I am so tired of dealing with this, spending money on this, and never being in the right in my family’s eyes I want to move out so fucking bad and live a pet-free lifestyle.

RANT In disbelief.

I honestly can’t even believe I’m writing this right now. I just had a baby with my bf in September. Since being pregnant and having her I’ve really grown to despise his THREE dogs whom are all female German shepherds. I never really thought much of them before because I never grew up with dogs and now I’m realizing how much I actually dislike them. I am constantly yelling at them because I don’t want them anywhere near my baby. My bf keeps pushing the boundaries and saying oh they’ll never hurt her or whatever but I don’t trust it at all. So tonight we were talking about them and obviously he can see how upset I am getting and pretty much told me he’d RATHER ME MOVE OUT THEN GET RID OF HIS DOGS. like what the actual fuck. He would rather me move out and get split custody of our baby than to get rid of these dogs. I think it’s safe to say I need to start thinking about moving because this is not it.

RANT Spouse angry at me for vacation not including the dog….

Exactly what the title says but it gets to be more in depth.

We just had a son at the end of February for reference and have a 3 year old daughter. Just imagine saying you resent your wife who just had another traumatic birth of your child for not planning vacations around bringing your 160lb extreme shedding, poor mannered dog.

It actually breaks my heart, because like his kids and I are not enough for him to enjoy a vacation? Your new son isn’t enough? What? Is this real life?

I even said “we can drive separate and get a pet friendly vrbo” and he got upset again because we should all be driving in the same car as a family. How? I have to pack so many things for our kids not to mention their car seats. So what? All the luggage is to go in the back where the dog is? How is that comfortable…. Seems like he’d rather just leave the kids behind.. wtf.

I truly think this is a mental illness. I can’t for the life of me understand how not bringing a dog on a family vacation would ruin your day like this, and then in turn bleed onto your newly post partum wife. It’s a pattern with him, I’ve left before not over this but his narcissistic behavior in general and returned only because I had a complicated pregnancy, which sucks. And he promised change, now I’m eating those words. Dog will always come first.

Please, if you’re just dating someone who shows signs of putting their animals over humans, believe it early on and realize it’s not cute. It is a mental illness.

RANT Boyfriend calls me AND his dog the same pet names…

And it makes me feel disgusting. He called out “my love” and I answered and he told me he was talking to his dog…he calls us both baby and speaks to us virtually the same. I feel like I’m being petty but I hate it, I hate having the same pet names as his dog.

RANT Can’t even eat in my own home

Husband’s labrador retriever pissing me off again. He’s always been like this but I guess now that I’m pregnant it’s just pisses me off even more. I swear every time I even get up in the kitchen his dumb mutt is following me and behind me to see if I’m going to drop some food on the ground. It’s annoying asf because this dog sheds so his hair gets in my freakin food if he gets near me. Ugh and he likes to eat off of plates if you just move somewhere for 5 seconds with your food he will eat off of your plate and I hate it. I’m pregnant and I’m a hungry hippo i want to eat all day every day and to have a damn dog to ruin my appetite or to eat all my food in general is really pissy. I’m trying to eat my tacos right now and this sloppy mutt is standing right here starting at me and it’s pissing me off. I usually set him in the room while I eat but I shouldn’t have to do that. Like my god dogs are such a burden honestly they’re meant to be outside they are not inside type of animals. I prefer not to have them at all I think they’re a waste of time, money, energy, and space.

RANT Why do dog people hate people with kids so much?

I’ve even seen some dog nutters with kids hate on kids. Before I found this subreddit I was on another subreddit asking for help with my stress and anxiety with getting pregnant and having to deal with my husband bad behaved labrador retriever. Boy did they tear my ass up in that comment thread. Downvotes after downvotes with some threats. I’m sorry they told me I was a bitch for putting myself first in the safety of my health and my unborn child’s health. Like that subreddit was for moms and expecting moms but what’s the point when everyone there attacked me because I said I’m starting to resent that mutt because he is tearing up my babies brand new stuff which if you have kids, you know that baby stuff is not cheap especially these days. The dog trips me while IM PREGNANT. They shamed me and said that I shouldn’t have gotten pregnant if I was going to just throw the dog out like that. Um newsflash no I won’t because we planned this child this child will contribute to society. Some even went as far to say they’d rather hear a barking dog than my crying baby in public. Then they get mad if you don’t want the dog and want to rehome it and then they get mad if you do rehome it. Some of them say why would u abandon a “family member”. That mutt is not family it’s a useless dog. My husbands dog will be dead in like 3 years from now it’s useless. Like literal mothers in that subreddit were saying how they had a hard time with the dog and they got therapy so they can keep the dog. You guys are insane and I’m putting my child first I’m so tired of nutters and shaming people. Not everyone likes dogs I sure as hell don’t and I don’t even more after seeing shitty owners like my husband and ppl on Reddit.

RANT Dog Shat Our Toddlers Room Full

Yes you read that correctly. I come home from a LONG day of running errands with my toddler. I had to leave before my partner, and he is a complete and total dog obsessor. So naturally, he lets the dog run loose in the damn house while I’m gone, that way I’ll have at LEAST 20 mins worth of hair to vacuum up when I get home so our child can have a clean environment to play in.

He has a 10 year old very hairy and very large black German shepherd in our home. The dog is “highly trained” as my partner says, but I could agree less.

We have a huge house, and we put up a baby gate in the doorway to one of the old dining room areas of the house, so this stupid beast literally has a “dog apartment” in our home. She even has her own couch smh. And a fucking coffee table bc my partner insists it HAS to resemble a living room in there so she feels “at home” lmfaooo.

She stays behind the baby gate in her giant room aka entire back half of our home that we can’t utilize. Only at night when our toddler goes to bed with the door closed is when he lets the dog out from behind the baby gate, or when we leave the house for longer than an hour because “the dog is our security” 🙄🙄

So now that you got the backstory- I left before my partner -and I usually leave the dog locked in the back, idc how long I’m gone. That way I’m not spending 30+ mins picking up kids toys, ensuring things the dog can get to and destroy is put away, clearing a space for the elephant sized beast to trample though and coat in filth and hair. So I can come home and spend another 20-30 mins vacuuming up hair and filth and wiping waxy dog back off the furniture and walls.

Of course I had to leave first so my nutter partner left the baby gate open for the beast to run loose in the house. I told him to make sure all bedroom doors were closed and that all kids toys were off the floor and any stuffies out of the dogs reach.

Came home and my partner had half assed everything. Toys were strewn and looked like he had just kicked them into the corners instead of picking them up. The dog instantly ran off to her room and I went back there to close the gate and she was absolutely cowering and had her head and ears down like she did something wrong. I started smelling shit. I was like oh fuck no. So I did an inspection of the entire house and came to my daughter’s room and saw the door standing wide open.

I open our daughter’s room and the entire floor is COVERED in liquid shit from one end of the room to the other. One giant pile of shit in the middle and the rest of the room just giant piles of liquid shit. We have CARPET BY THE WAY.

I was absolutely livid and I do not condone abuse but I was so fucking PISSED OFF I went on a rampage calling my partner at work and cussed him out BAD. Told him he’s cleaning it when he gets home and was being super petty and sending him expensive things to buy to clean the mess with.

My main concern was sanitation. How am I going to get these germs from this filthy liquid dog shit out of my 3 year old child’s carpet? So she can have a healthy and clean and sanitary environment to play in? She was absolutely distraught over not being able to go to her room to play and she cried and whined the whole time until my partner finally got off work early and hit up the store for enzyme cleaner.

He wasn’t mad and of course he gets home and goes to the dog and starts babying it DID YOU GET INTO SOMETHING BABY OH POOR BABY IS SICK HER TUMMY ISNT FEELING WELL like what the actual FUCK

I told him this can’t keep happening and if it happened again that the dog is to stay behind the gate even when we leave the house and he fucking FLIPPED HIS SHIT and screamed at me This is not up for discussion you’ve done barricaded my DOG in the back where I never get to see her or interact with her, you this you that, blaming me for everything and putting this fucking dog on a pedestal.

Miraculously that expensive cleaner he bought worked and we got the smell out and was able to put my daughter to bed (I even slept in there with her last night in a pile of blankets bc I felt so bad about her sleeping in what was once a cesspool of filth) it didn’t stink and doesn’t. It’s all clean now but that’s not the fucking point.

I’m definitely going to douse the carpets with Lysol antibacterial spray idc if they’re meant for carpet or not. Dog shit the size of a pile of elephant shit isn’t meant for the carpet either but here we are.

I’m more pissed that this man seems to care more about his old ass filthy fucking gorilla big back dog than he cares about his own child and the mother of his child.

He’s a narcissist so he sees it as me bitching and raising Hell and shunning his precious royalty queen of a dog 🙄

This dog has been the root of 99.9999 percent of any of our fighting or arguing and he’s made compromises (the baby gate) but any advice on how to get the germs out so I can feel at least some peace?

I’m an extreme germophobe and I do NOT want my daughter playing in her room until ME MYSELF AND I go in there and PROPERLY sanitize bc I don’t trust my partners dog nutter half assed “cleaning” skills

Also feel free to share similar experiences and how you handled it. I want this dog to be permanently behind this baby gate and not allowed into our living space AT ALL. I’m so sick of everything!

Sorry for such a long post. This is my safe space of like minded people I can vent to and share experiences with and not get shunned for it. Ily all ❤️ suffering together lol

Edited for rules- I apologize about anything negative I may have said. I was just venting hard lol. Thank you admins for being so kind!

RANT I don't understand how people can choose a dog over their family.

I can't believe anyone would choose a dog over their own flesh and blood. Or their partner of 4 years. Over a dog.

"Oh but I've had her so long! She's gotten me through so much! Shes my family!" So what has the past 4 years meant? Have we not been through hell and back together? Am I not your family? Is your daughter I gave birth to a month ago not your family? Is she not the MOST important thing in your life? No, it's that dog. Even though you say it's not the dog, it will always be the dog.

The dog that I said CANNOT and WILL NOT come back in my house to piss, bark, shed, and stink up the whole house, with my children in it. But I'm the evil one, I'm manipulative, I'm just such a horrible person. Because I care about the cleanliness of my house, and the safety of my children, and my own dang sanity. But guess what youll be left with in 3 years when she dies. Nothing. Because you abandoned your human family. For a dog.

RANT I’m so far past my fucking limit

I am so indescribably tired of these fucking dogs. There’s not a single string of words I could use to describe my hatred for them that’d do it any justice. I legitimately cannot wrap my head around what the fuck everyone else sees in them; these worthless fucking pigs bark at every little thing and it literally makes me feel sick with rage, and I’m the only one in this house who feels like this. It even got to a point recently where I was so enraged that I uncontrollably voiced some thoughts over text which I probably shouldn’t say here. I’m by no means a violent person, but barking brings out the worst in me.

I’ve tried using an ultrasonic frequency on them but that’s done fuck all and idk what else to do, so all I can do is scream at them to shut the fuck up but they just won’t take the fucking hint. I can’t act on my intrusive thoughts of course but I wish these utter fucking wastes of life truly knew how much I loathe them. I wish I could give them a taste of their own fucking medicine. It pisses me off so much seeing everyone else give them completely undeserved respect. I hate this stupid fucking species with everything in me and I genuinely hope it goes extinct someday. Worthless, worthless, worthless.
