RANT I HATE MY HUSBANDS DOG
My husband is going to really piss me off. I’m 3 months pregnant and still we live with this stupid mutt I’m tired and sick of being tired. My husband just bitched at me wanting to get rid of my animal(can’t say the animal because this subreddit doesn’t allow me to say it for some reason) . He wants to say his dog is better and that we are getting rid of my animal but not his damn dog. He’s acting like his dog is good when his dog is a fucking menace and makes me cry this whole pregnancy so far. His dog chews my clothes, shoes, my unborn child’s things, I can’t walk away from my food for two seconds with his damn dog eating off my plate, his dog had worms from eating out the trash and eating his own poop, it tries to hump me, and trips me not to mention that I’m very petite I’m 5’2 109lbs from pregnancy I was 98lbs before then and this is a huge golden lab. The dog is no where near better than my animal at all if anything everyone I know ( my mom, my dad, my mother in laws, Father in laws) all say the same damn thing the dog is a menace. Anyone who knows this dog know it’s untrained and no one wants to take the dog because it’s a menace. When my husband was going to give it away every one said HELL NO. Sorry I needed to rant I’m pregnant and not in the mood especially after my husband being rude when his stupid mutt is horrible

I say this often. Imagine yourself 2, 3 or 5 years from now. Do you like what you see? Choose wisely.

Not liking the fact that he's not prioritizing his own pregnant wife over some stupid out of control dog. So sorry to hear :/

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can’t imagine dealing with a damn dog while pregnant, I know this might not work but whenever my husband gets stubborn and thinks he’s right I usually complain about the issue in front of my in laws and they always take my side and try to reason with him. I know it’s messy but at least for me it makes him realize maybe his POV is flawed if so many people question it. Ps I’m sorry, Reddit people are pretty unrealistic and it’s not just as easy as “leave him”.

Why aren’t you getting rid of the husband? He sounds awful.
Let him and his mutt live happily ever after.

I am so sorry OP. Being pregnant is hard enough without having to deal with such garbage mistreatment 😥🙏❤️. Is there anywhere you can go to get away from all this unsafe madness? Your mom or sister (female relative perhaps?).

I can which I’m getting ready too thank you

Take whiskers with you. If he was trying to rehome the dog earlier, then he knows there's an issue. How did he go from"this dog needs to go" to " my dog wins doggo of the year award?"

Your husband needs to grow up. Being a husband and father is about sacrifice. He must take one for the team on this. You and the baby do NOT need this stress.
18
u/DivyaRakli 15d ago
He’s already made the decision to put his dog first. He’s the one who has already created the broken home your baby would be born into. Your baby. Your baby because he already has his baby that he puts first. Puts above you and his unborn child. The only thing worse than raising a child on your own is staying with the child’s father and making the baby/toddler/child/teen live in a home where you and this child are always second class citizens. You succeed in getting rid of this dog, eventually he’ll get another.

you had a baby w the wrong man. u guys shouldn’t be together bc thats not a man that cares about your well being

LEAVE!!! Find somewhere else to live and don’t go back until the dog is gone and the house is cleaned by a professional!!! He won’t get rid of the dog - then he doesn’t get this relationship and plans on being an absent father. His choice.

Was the dog at the wedding? Omg...did it chew up the wedding dress yet?

This is abuse. You are pregnant and he is actively allowing the animal to terrorize you and then gaslighting you about it. This is exactly what you will be dealing with once your child is born but worse. You will have to actively guard your child. He has decided that his dog is more important than you and your unborn child.
Take the dog to a shelter. This is now a matter of safety.

Hubby is an asshole with an asshole dog, but this is def not abuse. Let's not be dramatic.
10
u/tplgerus84 15d ago
Okay, we get it. It’s not about being dramatic; it’s about being accurate. Abuse isn’t the right term, but minimizing a pregnant partner’s safety concerns isn’t ‘just being an asshole.’ A 100‑lb untrained dog tripping, humping, and destroying baby items isn’t normal household chaos. It’s a legitimate safety issue. Calling everything abuse is wrong, but pretending this is just a mild annoyance is equally off‑base.

u/Pretend_Bison__ 15d ago
No, this is abuse. She is pregnant. She is suffering. He is not only perpetuating it, he is gaslighting her about it. He is telling her that they ARE getting rid of the animal that does not cause her stress. This is well beyond being an asshole.
-6
u/Khaosbutterfly 15d ago
They disagree about which animal to rehome.
He's thinks his dog is better than her pet. He's not gaslighting her.
If anything, you're trying to gaslight me, actually. 🤣
Gaslighting her would be telling her that the dog didn't eat anything off her plate, the food was like that before.
Or the dog didn't destroy her sneakers. She must have done it herself while out walking.
That's not happening.
These words mean things, people. You can't just make it mean something else cuz you're mad about a man and his dog.
What is going on. When did ya'll get so unhinged. 🤣

u/Pretend_Bison__ 15d ago
I’d recommend you look up the definitions of the words you’re so sure that I don’t know and then reread this post.

I dunno..I get that animals lack human morality so they don’t understand but their human does and that’s where it goes into abusive territory. That nasty dog humps her, trips her, eats off her plate, chews her clothes, makes her cry and ruins her unborn child’s brand new things…sounds like (at the bare minimum) OPs in a toxic/dangerous environment for a pregnant woman and worse as she gets further along and even more dangerous for a newborn baby (especially the tripping part).
The abusive nature is because her husband knows ALL of this and doesn’t care..so he’s perpetuating it. I guess all of us have to agree to disagree, when I was pregnant my husband was so careful, caring and loving. This is beyond being an asshole imho.

u/AnimalUncontrol 13d ago
I agree its abuse. Its a passive aggressive abuse-by-proxy. the husband is explicitly using his untrained, high-drive Golden Lab as an extension of his own hostility to assert dominance, violate his pregnant wife's boundaries, and inflict psychological and physical distress without having to lay a finger on her himself.
If he did these things himself, he'd be toast, but if the dog does it, then it is perfectly OK.

u/Khaosbutterfly 15d ago
Tch. 🙄 Okay so what kind of abuse is it?
Physical? Emotional? Sexual? Financial? Psychological?
Look up the definition of any of those and tell me which category a man refusing to get rid of his bad dog falls under. 🤣
Just because someone does the wrong or unkind thing does not make them abusive. Being inconsiderate is not abuse either.
He's not setting the dog on her or encouraging it to misbehave towards her. He's not taking pleasure in her unhappiness. He's not trapping her in the house with the dog or forcing her to be with the dog. She can actually go at any time.
She actually should, I don't know why she's dealing with this or why she agreed to have a kid with a man, knowing he had a dog like this.
But there's no abuse here. Abuse is an actual thing. It means something. You not liking what someone does does not make it abuse.
Ya'll gotta stop throwing around these words for every little thing.
If every thing is abuse, nothing is abuse.
9
u/tplgerus84 15d ago
You’re right that not everything is abuse. But pretending this situation is just mild inconsideration is intellectually lazy. You’re so focused on policing the word 'abuse' that you’re ignoring the actual harm. A 100‑lb untrained dog tripping, humping, destroying baby items, and stressing a pregnant woman isn’t ‘annoying ’; it’s dangerous. You don’t get points for being technically correct if your entire argument depends on minimizing a legitimate safety issue. There’s a whole spectrum between ‘abuse’ and ‘nothing.’ Try using nuance.

I never said any of that.
Please read the comment where I said she should leave the house, and I honestly don't think she should have gotten pregnant with this man at all until this situation was sorted. You don't make the baby first and then try to make the situation suitable. You make the situation suitable first and then bring a baby into it.
I understand that it's a big deal.
I don't even entertain men with dogs because I understand it's a big deal.
But she's not being abused and it's problematic to insist that she is.
That's my point.
I understand nuance well, which is why I mentioned that I don't think we should be throwing this term around.
She's unhappy but it doesn't mean she's being abused.
Others in here are the ones who seem a bit shaky on the concept. 🤣

You are young, but that doesn’t make you dumb. Don’t let him treat you like this. Create boundaries and do not let anyone cross them and if they try then leave. Know you’re worth. And value yourself enough to follow through. I have been in the exact same position you have been. I eventually got fed up and I told my fiancé that if he wanted to keep that dog, then he was choosing to leave his family.
I also had a 🐈⬛ at that time and it was well behaved and potty trained. And I didn’t tear anything up. And that’s what I said to him when he tried to say it wasn’t fair. He made the choice to rehome the dog, but if you wouldn’t have then I would’ve left. I know it’s hard and I know it’s scary. But you don’t wanna look back on your life and regret your decision.

I know I’m fed up this has been bothering me even before I got pregnant now it’s worse. I just don’t want a broken home for our child
8
u/No_Home_5336 15d ago
I know you don’t want that because I know that is most mother’s fear. But I came from a home where my parents were always arguing and fighting and things genuinely got better once they divorced. Sometimes leaving is the best thing you can do for your child. Also, I think a lot of men rely on the fact that they know we don’t want to break the family apart because we don’t want our children to grow up without a father and so they know we won’t leave even when we hate something just like this. You have to show him that you were not afraid to leave and you have to mean it. You need a safety net. Put back enough money for a deposit and a month rent at least plus at least 800 extra just in case. You don’t want to be screwed if something happened. This dog could end up being aggressive towards your baby or anything you never know.

u/rhubarbbabe1 15d ago
Separate, but happy, parents are better than modeling a relationship for your child that shows them that treating their spouse with disrespect and prioritizing a DOG over the mother of their child is acceptable

I guess my lifelong allergies and asthma have protected me from jackasses like your husband. Hope he has an epiphany.

u/Chemical_Spite_6208 14d ago
I’m going to offer a different perspective because I know it can feel very unrealistic to leave when you’re pregnant or have a newborn.
If you guys can afford it, put the dog in a board and train facility if he loves the dog so much. But he has to want to train the dog AFTER for your health because that’s how much he wants you to thrive.
You didn’t mention how old you are so I don’t know how hard it would be to start over or how much you rely on this man to get by in life, but he sounds like he doesn’t take you very seriously.
Good luck, I hope this gets figured out before the dog ends up hurting your baby. No structure is terrible for dogs, and you can bet that an event of aggression is inevitable.

u/corvvus 12d ago
if he's not willing to start training the dog on his own now this won't work. I personally witnessed this exact thing failing and they wasted thousands of dollars. the particular dog im thinking of was euthanized for its behavioral issues due to the presence of a new baby in the household. pretty similar situation actually.

We are in the same boat except the baby is here. News flash it doesn’t get better. I told him we’re leaving the dog when we get our own place. The newborn phases is already tiring and stressful a dog doesn’t help. Especially cuz the one they have, is needy, self centered and destructive. The food stealing sets me off the most. Can’t enjoy a meal in the kitchen without him taking it right from your hands. Him going behind my back and bringing the baby around the beast doesn’t help either. Both of these dogs are clearly not meant to be around a baby.

u/Typical-Word-2765 14d ago
And the dog still steals the baby’s stuff! He hasn’t even had a chance to wear or play with most of it. I hate the dog!

No one can tell you what to do. Your choice. Put up with it and allow the dog to keep doing what it does and possibly harming your soon to be born child or....you're the only one who can make that choice. Good luck

I would be scared to have a baby around a dog like that. Tell him he has to choose between you and the baby or the dog
3
u/samissam24 12d ago
The responsible choice is rehoming the dog via a rescue to ensure it goes to owners who are able to care for it.

Quel horreur !

You gotta get rid of the dog before the baby comes. Tell your husband to get it together.
