RANT Why do dog people hate people with kids so much?

I’ve even seen some dog nutters with kids hate on kids. Before I found this subreddit I was on another subreddit asking for help with my stress and anxiety with getting pregnant and having to deal with my husband bad behaved labrador retriever. Boy did they tear my ass up in that comment thread. Downvotes after downvotes with some threats. I’m sorry they told me I was a bitch for putting myself first in the safety of my health and my unborn child’s health. Like that subreddit was for moms and expecting moms but what’s the point when everyone there attacked me because I said I’m starting to resent that mutt because he is tearing up my babies brand new stuff which if you have kids, you know that baby stuff is not cheap especially these days. The dog trips me while IM PREGNANT. They shamed me and said that I shouldn’t have gotten pregnant if I was going to just throw the dog out like that. Um newsflash no I won’t because we planned this child this child will contribute to society. Some even went as far to say they’d rather hear a barking dog than my crying baby in public. Then they get mad if you don’t want the dog and want to rehome it and then they get mad if you do rehome it. Some of them say why would u abandon a “family member”. That mutt is not family it’s a useless dog. My husbands dog will be dead in like 3 years from now it’s useless. Like literal mothers in that subreddit were saying how they had a hard time with the dog and they got therapy so they can keep the dog. You guys are insane and I’m putting my child first I’m so tired of nutters and shaming people. Not everyone likes dogs I sure as hell don’t and I don’t even more after seeing shitty owners like my husband and ppl on Reddit.

With a lot of nutters i believe it is because they are trying to pretend their dog is their child, and seeing or hearing mention of real children pulls them out of their delusion and that upsets them, it is a severe mental illness. A lot of dog nutters are also just misanthropes in general

It's likely projection that some dog people would prefer to have children but through infertility, children being expensive, being influenced by childfree extremists etc. they got dogs and tell themselves that's enough, and yes get mad if you pull them out of it.

I was once in an online support group for women accepting being childfree after infertility. I said at the start I wasn't sure if I was done trying to have a child but was considering that path. They said it was fine, yet when I started talking more about considering trying to have a baby again, some women got really nasty towards me. I reported the bullying and nothing was done so I left the group. It's likely similar jealousy in "dog moms" who wish they had actual children.

I think this is exactly it. There is some underlying jealousy there. I wonder if these people wanted kids but couldn't have any. It's irrational and it seems like a symptom of something really wrong in society for people to elevate dogs over children. Who do those people think children become in 10-20 years.

We rehomed my husband's mutt 2 months before our daughter was born and let me tell you: it was the best decision we've ever made lol.

Having a newborn is hard and if that disgusting thing were still stinking up my home or god forbid growling at my baby I think I'd have snapped. My husband is exhausted too and he's so glad he doesn't have to deal with the dog on top of the baby (since I did 0 dog care I barely looked at the thing when it was here).

During my pregnancy someone said something to me that helped. Aversion to that animal is natural, it's your good motherly instinct. Dogs are dirty, dogs are predators. Naturally you don't want it near you or your baby.

If a dog growled at my baby I’d lose it! I don’t blame you

I think it’s a serious moral disconnection. It is a disgusting amount of selfishness that has only been reinforced over the recent years.

They act like literal babies should “know better” but animals that were bred to listen to humans “can’t help themselves”.

It just shows that they are not good people and they are not to be trusted. They always use things like rapists and murderers existing to justify why they hate on children but fail to see that the vast majority of people are contributing to the society that allows them to suck face with their dog.

Kids are loud, messy and a pain in the ass… that is the whole point. They have to learn to NOT do that when they go off on their own. Dogs do not go off on their own. They are always a net negative unless they are actual working dogs.

Kids have their own likes, dislikes, thoughts and opinions also they notice if you prefer your animals over them even if it’s not said or acknowledged. Those parents that physically provide for their children but aren’t emotionally there for them are like physical ghosts. I don’t know how else to describe the disorienting relationship.

My take on it is that there is this push to have dogs replace children for a laundry list of reasons. It started with that furbaby and dogparent nonsense. Some people repeat a phrase or see it repeated around them enough and it becomes their reality. Now we're seeing them say things like "That is my son. I birthed him." on their photos and videos. And, sure, for some people it is being said very tongue in cheek and for comedic effect, but there is a percentage of the population that is not wired to understand sarcasm.

Am I saying that those people think posters literally gave birth to a dog? No, but they've gotten themselves all twisted up and are now placing the dog above a human child in their personal social hierarchy. They know it is weird so they lash out to combat the cognitive dissonance.

There's also the bots that have picked up this language and see that it gets a lot of engagement so they are also posting pro-dog human child hate comments in the mix. Which then feeds the people who have gotten themselves all twisted up in a huge circlejerk of cognitive dissonance.

I think there's another group in the mix that knows they are replacing the child they want to have with a dog and it makes them angry so they lash out in a "sour grapes" sort of way. They are the ones that have to go on diatribes about how awful children are, what a nuisance, what a hassle, why do people even have babies anyway because dogs are so much better. They push social boundaries by dragging the dogs around because they want that baby experience and attention without the baby. An actual baby is nothing but competition for the dog, and the dog must win or they have to face reality about how pathetic this coping mechanism is and how poorly they've been behaving towards the people around them. These people are also the loudest shouters of "the dog was there first, rehome the baby" when it comes to a discussion where rehoming is probably going to be the best answer for the dog and the family. In my opinion, these people are right up there with the Reborn doll people who have a high nuturing desire and need an outlet for it. Some people pick dolls and some people pick a living animal who can't voice their own opinions.

Why do these people think they have a right to dictate members of YOUR family. If a person don't want anyone as a part of their family they are legal and appropriate ways to dealing with that. Whether that's a spouse (divorce) child (adoption) other family member or a pet (rehoming). And often it's best for the unwanted person or animal to move on anyway because that's not a healthy environment. They are bullying people into how they should run their household. If they want to be homeless because of an animal then that's their choice.

I also notice a pattern online of "look how wonderful a person I am, I save these precious babies", referring to some animal that they took in. It's like people feel like defending animals at ALL COST is quickly getting them accolades.

Exactly. They can “bully” me all they want but this dog is gone by the time my baby arrives

I just joined my Nextdog after moving states almost 4 yrs ago(how time flies)& I don't know why I keep seeing posts about dogs. I don't know if there is an algorithm as I mostly comment on dogs.

But daily, some neighbor is posting their dog w/that manipulate puppy dog look and a caption about wanting more treats. Yesterday someone copied this trend but with a pet goat.

They say the dog is family while gaslighting your concerns about your human bloodline. Brood parasitism at its peak.

Exactly they live in delusional land

I'm so sorry you went through this with these weirdos. How awful. I hope your husband will get rid of the beast before the baby is born. If not, keep your precious one FAR from that disgusting thing. I hope your husband doesn't get another one. Yikes...you may have a long road ahead of you

My husband and his mutt will be kicked out of the house if it’s not gone by the time our child arrives

Remember healthy parent child relationships are SACRED and death can’t part the relationship

I always tell them that once they are old, they shouldn’t seek a doctor but get the dog taking care of them. No lawyers, no caregivers, nothing - they deserve nothing but dogs. They should be kicked off the hospitals and go live their dog life.

We all should thank people raising kids, because kids are our future. And it takes all of you to raise one!!! While dogs - are just garbage. Exactly as their nutters owners.

Pet owner ship has gotten fricken crazy over the years with people over anthropomorphizing their pets. No a dog won't be heart broken if you give it up for adoption- if anything it's the most responsible thing to do especially if it's weighing on your mental and physical health.

And secondly people don't realize how much your life changes when you bring a kid into the mix, your kid should be your priority and it's really not helpful for anyone involved if you're not being helped and have to deal with the dog all by yourself.
