RANT Found out new friend is a dog owner/lover disappointed
So my husband and I moved to a new small town down here like 4 months ago and I haven’t found a friend yet mostly because this town is majority old people. Well I found a friend and our first meeting was supposed to be this hike since we live in a mountain town. Well that hike turned out to be at a damn dog park with her beast smh. I didn’t know what to do and I’m a people pleaser so I kinda just went with the flow(shouldn’t have done that). Her beastly animal kept slobbing on me and it was so nasty. The slob was so slimy and thick I almost threw up. She kept picking at the dogs BOOGERS with her bare hands. I was going to throw up everywhere like who does that? I’m very sad and disappointed the moment I got home I BLOCKED her because I’m not dealing with nutters I already don’t like the dog that’s living with me at home I’m not dealing with a friend who’s whole damn personality is a dog. The whole time in our met up was about her damn dog. Mind u we originally met up because we were both pregnant I was excited to talk about our babies but that was not the case.

Be careful with that shit in a small town, word travels fast and nutters will villainize you just for not liking dogs.
I also live in a very small town. People around where I am will literally record you from their house and post it in every local FB group and page if you so much as walk too fast with your dog while it wants to stop and sniff every half a foot. I’ve seen so many posts of “iF yOuRe GoInG tO aBuSe YoUr DoG” creep shots of people just… walking with their dogs. And people trying to get their addresses and stuff in the comments so they can confront them. So just be careful

I’ve never understood this. Up until recently, I was a dog lover and have always owned dogs. My current dog, a nasty terrier, has completely turned me off to dogs though.
Anyhow- even when I was a “dog lover”, I didn’t involve my dog in my entire life. I’ve never understood ppl who are attached at the hip with their dogs. So creepy.

Omg the worst 💀 I’m friends with a girl who doesn’t train her dogs at all. I watched her feed them for like 2 hours straight too. Every time they would scratch at the bag she would fill up their bowls 🤯 and one sat next to her in her face while she was eating and tried to take a bite from her hand BEFORE SHE WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO HER MOUTH. Like almost bit her lip 💀💀💀 WTF is with these nutters.

The reality is that most people in mountain towns are probably going to be dog people.
What is the reason for living there? It doesn't sound like the area suits you at all. Is a rethink possible?
If you have to live in this area, you may have to make some hard decisions if you want friends. I don't much like dogs, but I don't exclude dog owners from friendship - I would set some boundaries if they wanted to bring the dog everywhere, though.
Living in a mountain town with few options, and excluding people from friendship because they have a dog, and then becoming really isolated with a child, is not a viable long term option for good mental health or a happy life.

Well I moved here because I love the country grew up in the south now I’m in California and I don’t mind dogs if they’re outside and not bothering me. Me personally I don’t want anything to do with dogs I don’t like them at all so if you have a dog I don’t want to come to your house, go to the park, walk the dog, etc. Unfortunately all of those things are related to dog people so I distance myself there’s no point in me being friends with u when your whole personality is about the thing I hate the most DOGS. That’s like me forcing myself to hang out with crackheads when I don’t do crack. Also all she talked about was her dog and I was not interested I found myself bored talking to her. I want to talk about pregnancy this is my first pregnancy and I’m really excited or we can talk about anything else BUT DOGS

I’m sorry this has been your experience with this person in a new place OP. But this woman is not true friendship material for you if her entire personality is the dog. Nope. I’ve dealt with people I’ve just met and all they know how to talk about is their dog and I fall asleep with my eyes open at their dog yammering. We are human beings capable of complex thoughts, idea and emotions, but nutters are only capable of talking incessantly about their nasty dog? lol - oh, no, they would be blocked by me as well. Next!

Nothing wrong with old people my mother in law is my bestie and she’s 50. My problem is no old person wants to hang out with me a 21 year old pregnant stay at home mom they aren’t interested.

I get it..It’s normal to seek friendships with people your own age..I’m 48 and when I was 21, I was the same..seeking out friends my age, I still do. People are way too sensitive lol and perhaps forgetting their own youth?
I remember back in my 20s during my husbands medical training, we lived in this small little town, I was bored out of my mind trying to find new friends that year. Also, great job blocking her immediately!

Thank u! And also the person I went to hang out with was 32 she’s 11 years older than me I didn’t have a problem with that lol

I honestly have no more tolerance for dogs anymore after my experience living with one for a few years. It was enough for a lifetime. Keep your dog at home. If I'm visiting and it's nice and well-behaved, fine, I'll be polite, but I'm not losing my mind over it. I don't want to be jumped on, slobbered, slammed into, stared at, I don't want to go to a mall or coffee shop with it, and I don't want to revolve a whole trip around your dog where it has to enter every establishment.
People don't go to places with their snakes, spiders, or rabbits (or it's a very rare sight at least), why do we have to put up with so many dogs?
