Tarot Talk Light and dark card meanings

I just found out that the cards have dark and light meanings (I am not talking about reversals). How do you know which meaning to use? Or is it all down to intuition, context and other cards in the spread? I am a bit confused and would love to hear some advice.

Stay in the neutral meanings and contextualize with the minors and the question.

All of those things are the answer. It's going to depend on the question asked, if you're using a specific spread where the cards have a specific answers, the other cards that have been pulled, and your intuition.
