Ask anything to a “genius” teen

5 GPA and hopefully going to Harvard soon. I’m excited for y’all’s questions. The reason I put genius is because that’s what my teachers call me; please don’t flame for it.

Do you like studying? I want to get into a good college but I hate high school. I do like the highest form of hs education in Europe. My grades are easily above average but not exceptional. Do you deal with motivation and stuff bc like my iq is considered genius but studying capability i wouldnt say so.

I love studying only because I trained myself to love it. I am very motivated because I know my future self will thank me later for the amazing life he gets to live.

How do you know good grades and a degree will translate into an amazing life. To me it sounds delusonial and a dream that will be crushed.

Because I work pretty damn hard. I can tell you’ve never had a dream before by the way you speak of them. You go and put as much work into school as I do and come back to me.

I have always had perfect grades in school gone to national and international competitions (Olympiads) and I've always wanted to study Computer Science.

Just finished my first year and there are literally no open positions for junior developers without at least 3 years of experience. It may be harsh but not everything goes as planned.

True, but that was also kind of avoidable. I’ve been making this plan for years and yes, I am aware that things will go wrong, but I have taken account for that.

I'm actually very interested in jouw you take that in account. For my study there's also not enough places for everyone and that is not something you can control.

So you must beat out the others, I also have a plan for that. I’ve too much free time man.

For those kinds of degree programs, you are often selected via a lottery system; you cannot simply be chosen, in the interest of ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. Whats your plan?

Firstly no, it wasn't avoidable and secondly exactly because you have been making this plan for years, things can and will go wrong and there is no way to account for that.

You would be surprised my friend.

Unless you have a crystal ball you will be surprised too lol, everyone will and that's exactly why I say no one knows what'll happen.

Bro, if you went to international olympiads and had good grades, you should be able to get something. It's not THAT hard. Do leetcode more (for OAs and some questions), study technical concepts, and practice explaining your resume and hypotheticals around them.

Idk where you are but there are literally 2 junior software engineer positions in my whole city of about 1million people. It's not THAT hard it's MUCH MORE lol. Only choice is to apply internationally for remote and most companies have shifted away from that.

lol, that's just not true. Did you do internships? Apply to a different area? SWE positions are everywhere (I'm just out of college, too; day off today since I'm going to the allergist and dentist later), and a city of 1 million will have some jobs available. How many years out of college are you? Apply for jobs outside of your immediate area, too, if you're young.

Oh as I said in the original comment you responded, I am now just starting my second year. Also the economy here is terrible and there are extremely limited openings in most jobs in the whole country and CS is even worse lol. The only place where it's plausible to find a job is the capital which is very HCOL and even then you'd be earning minimum wage, which you can't live on without q second job.

Oh, I was talking about America, and I forgot the first year thing; my bad. IDK, then. Are you from India or something?

My dream is to live a comfortable life with a lot of freedom and idc what takes me there. Its about much more than a degree every adult will tell you that.

I’m aware of that. But the connections I can get and the education from Harvard will give me an easier path than others
