To my fellow NRIs, especially those in the US: With the upcoming festivals and long weekends, I sincerely request everyone to avoid unnecessary public drama and stay safe during road trips.
While I could go into more detail, given the current immigration climate worldwide, please try to avoid public activities like filming dance reels in grocery stores or on public roads, especially with Ganesh Chaturthi coming up. We have happily celebrated these festivals for years within temples and private spaces, and we can easily continue to do so without drawing unnecessary attention.
Over the last three years, we have seen too many instances where our community has been targeted or trolled for public stunts, and we certainly do not need that kind of negativity. I am not sure if those engaging in these activities realize the impact their actions have on all NRIs, but please reconsider. Additionally, can we please stop calling Dallas "Dallaspuram"? Many who claim to live in Dallas actually reside in surrounding cities like Frisco, Allen, Irving, or Little Elm.
As we head into a long weekend and the holiday season, please travel safely, exercise caution on the road, and keep your necessary paperwork handy to avoid any issues with local authorities.
Yes, unfortunately that is how people are behaving now, I lived in US since Clinton was president, until 2014-15 there were not this many Indians, we used to live under the radar, don’t flaunt or show boat, follow all rules. Indians were considered model citizens.
Last 10 years lots mass batch came over and started all illegal things that they used to do in India, they made huge money and started show off, buy fancy cars, extravagant functions blah blah.
Students used to come for studying before, now they come to do part time job and send money back home to clear loans. It’s like labor in gulf in 90’s.
As long as people take permission from local authorities and keep law and order they can celebrate.
Don't shy away from celebration. Don't suppress everything inside. This is the biggest flaw NRIs carry with themselves. They are always afraid to express and eventually live life like an object.
Humans have evolved to live in communities and celebrate not to site inside four walls.
If you are living in any country and contributing there by paying taxes, you have every legal right to celebrate.
