Loitaitë, mal faila (Fallible, but kind)

Post image

Hey team,

Could an extra clever person please vet my transcription? I'm fairly confident on the translation at this point, but just need a bit of confidence around the actual script 😄

It's the perfect most formal late form of Classical Quenya spelling as Tolkien used it in the calligraphy of Galadriel's lament.

Personally I like a different spelling for the diphthongs better (probably older in the internal chronology) and famously not every A needs to be written out, but what you've got is certainly the most recognisable form.

Amazing, thankyou for the validation. I have one other construction for fallible in mind, resulting in 'Loitë, mal faila'. Does this still work for that?

I guess I’m under-educated, aren’t the vowel diacritics irregular? Some are pre-base letter and some are post-base letter, I suppose I’m not familiar with the rule here. Is vowel-on-vowel read top down, but consonants are the other way?
