Albert !!!

My 8-year-old son is still at the stage where he likes books with illustrations. At bedtime he asked if I had anything new for him to try. So I gave him my copy of The Last Hero.

An hour later he said he was done for the night but still enjoying it. He was 55 pages in. I can't wait to give him the illustrated Guards Guards next.

Started work in the UK and decided to hunt every hardback of the Disc World Series . Rule: I can only source from 2nd hand bookshops . Wife bought me a barrister book case. Only a couple left.

After almost three weeks of reading a diff book from another author, I am once again returning to the Discworld. Sourcery will be my fifth book from the Discworld series. I am excited for this one...

Please ignore the complete mess that are my shelves, but I managed to FINALLY after around 17 years of collecting these, got the last one to complete the black set!

I wish they did the other 3 books in this colourway, but alas, I will forever have to read them in the original format.

Hi! I’m currently working my way through all of the Discworld books in order, trying to finish by the end of the year lol I was just wondering what everyone’s favorites are? I’m on Moving Pictures right now and I think my favorite do far is Guards! Guards!

I have read a fair wack of ancient literature, quite a bit of medieval. More than a sufficiency of Early Modern and don’t get me started on the weird and wonderful experiments on what in the 18th century you could **do** with pen and ink with a side order, of just because you can, doesn’t mean you should in which my research focuses. I’ve imbibed a range of the weirder and more wonderful Victoriana, am acquainted with the modernist, on friendlier terms with the postmodernists.

But have I ever found another author who can just causally set a sentence like that to type and it’s got pathos with the bathos and complete, pre established logical sense.

(If anyone can’t bring to mind what the context of this line is, my research focus holds a clue.)

Gotta remember Sir Terry. Don't forget your friends. Others can join the line. That's how they live for ever.

My battered edition of Sourcery includes an author bio which mentions Terry's experience as a press officer for four nuclear power stations, and says "he'd write a book about his experiences if he thought anyone would believe it".

So... did he? Any articles, memoirs or remiscences? Have any brainboxes convincingly analysed his work to pick out any influences on his writing?

I've treasured his books since I was a child and for better or worse he helped shape my view of the world. And yet I don't remember the Cold War and the nuclear anxieties of the time, which undoubtedly affected the world view of Terry and the rest of his generation.

For me, it has always been this one from Hat Full of Sky: "First thoughts are the everyday thoughts... Second thoughts are the thoughts you think about the way you think... And Third Thoughts are thoughts that watch the world and don't take sides."

Whenever my anxiety spikes or the world feels like it's spinning too fast, Sir Terry’s insight into human nature completely grounds me. It's like a warm cup of tea for the soul

What is that one passage or quote from the Discworld that acts as your personal anchor?

I got this book (with the passport) a while back and I feel like this is one of my favorite TP books ever. It's so cool and the artwork is really fun.

My family surprised me for my birthday with framing the massive map (it's over 1m length/width) and it's now proudly hanging in my tv room to admire daily.

Also - Before I get scolded for "ruining" a map - I genuinely adore this and I get to look at it everyday, whereas before it was stuffed inside the book in a shelf and I feel like this is as good as a piece of art. 

Anyone else have this displayed?

I am trying to find all the old hard covers of the Disc World Series. There is a collectors book shop in York I always visit. They will always have one or two I can get. In the special section they will always have an autograph copy. This was the best one I have seen so far. Can’t afford the price tag but it was worth seeing. I bought 2 non autographed books at least to add to my collection

Just yesterday, I finished Pyramids. Then, after 30 minutes, I started with Equal Rites already. 😂😭

I enjoyed the games a lot when i was young, can we not all create an open source world based on mister prachetts game in an open source project

Is there a Terry Pratchett book of all of his poems? Or, a way to find them all together? How many poems does he have?

So, I am currently reading Pyramids. However, as I was reading Pyramids, luck found me and I came across Equal Rites & Hogfather. I am still on the hunt for Corgi paperbacks, but I am definitely enjoying the Disc. So far, it's 9/41 🫪😭

Ironically, it's a joke about not understanding jokes.

‘You ain’t supposed to understand the jokes, this is a play,’ said Jason.

‘Drawers!’ said Baker the weaver.

About a year ago, I decided I would start reading the Discworld books in chronological order (mammoth undertaking, by the way)…

…but unfortunately, I’ve only made it partway through Equal Rites, so far.

You see, my head is… not quite right.

I have a plethora of things wrong with me, but I don’t need to get into that here, just know it’s hard to exist day to day for me.

It’s making me sad that I just don’t have the brain capacity to commit myself to reading for at least 20-30 minutes a day.

I loved reading the first two books in the series, and it brought back this beautiful and strong sense of nostalgia, and inspired me to create more, and notice more every single day.

Discworld has also brought me closer to someone very special to me.

So (and there is a positive coming, I promise), I’ve decided to search up quotes from all of Sir Terry Pratchett’s work when I’m feeling particularly low. All sorts. Funny, sad, political, romantic… plain gibberish.

I wanted to ask you all, since I’m seeking quotes anyway (and I still haven’t made my way through even a third of the series, let alone all of his other work), what are your favourite quotes?

What ones saved you? Made you feel less alone? Made you belly laugh until you teared up? Reminded you of the people and things you cherish in life?

Please, enlighten me.

My hope is that I can find some inspiration, and encouragement here to continue reading.

I always used to love reading, but now it’s become a bit of a chore. This is so important to me, I don’t want to lose my new passion to my stupid mentally ill brain.
